As I said in the mix challenge for this song, I really like it. So I thought it would be fun to approach this remix as more of a production project. I left all original music in place (ish), spiced up the kick drum by sampling the existing kick and pasting in additional strikes to generate a more ag...

Here is my submission. I used a couple reverbs on parallel aux bus. Delay echo on tracks that I thought could use a slightly bigger sound. Subtle compression in stages where needed, and EQ to bring out tonality where needed. Subtle saturation on a few tracks, heavier saturation on a couple guitars a...

Don't the rules state the mix must be the same sample rate as the original? Newbie here.......one other quick question, why is it permitted to tune vocals but NOT augment drums with samples? Just curious.........because when you tune a vocal you are changing the performance, augmenting a drum with ...

I thought the original mix was really out of place in a small jazz club, mostly due to reverb. So using Pro Tools as my DAW I created a more natural and intimate soundstage using subtle parallel reverbs from Soundtoys Little Plate, and Studio Reverb. I used the original mix as reference for tonality...

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC056 July 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation

Hi everyone: I’ve now listened to every track and have notes for every single one and a Top 10. As there were 73 entries in total it’s going to be too long winded putting every single feedback in the thread comments so I have attached a link to my spreadsheet in Google Drive with them on. Anyways, ...

Thanks to Chris Wilson for providing the song, and once again Mix Challenge for putting this on. I really like this piece, very different than the others I’ve been involved with (only my 3rd MC). Also, the first I was able to really spend some time on. After dumping the source files into Pro Tools, ...

I just wanted to say that while the song may have not been tracked real well, personally I like it, and feel it deserves my best efforts (that is what being a "professional" is by the way). It is music, art, and a form of expression. It is our job to help the artist make it as good as it can be, in ...

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC055 June 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation

In your mix, from 0:24.270 to 0:24.950 (in the mp3, which plays ~50ms later than the wav/24), where there is only vocals and hihat, I detected a strong LF ocurrence around 40Hz. I would like to point out that this is unusual, and while working on my version of this song, I found all kinds of such s...

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC055 June 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation

That first method sounds like a lot of tedious (retry) work, especially on more than one track. I would have not finished that by now for all the tracks, to see to it that their timing was proper to the phase level. The sound radix plugin costs $149 which is a bit much to invest, and I have no idea...

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC055 June 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation

[\quote] I have boosted the midrange of the top kick drum recordings a lot, and have added compression to keep the kick poppy. There is also reverb on the top kick part, that may also leave the impression of something going on with the phase. The kick drum was coming in multiple channels, so it may ...
