Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC021 May 2019 - Winners announced

Thank you @Mister Fox (and everyone else, too) for that feedback! I'm always trying to improve my writing and production, and looking through the suggestions you gave for each track opened my eyes to some things. Congratulations to the winners, and everyone who entered. This was a fun round, both fo...

I believe you can compose on top of it. The brief says to use it as a "composition tool," so as long as Robo-Bach is noticable in your work I think you are fine. For example, I was considering writing a melody, letting Bach add a harmonic progression to it, and then possibly stripping away...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC021 May 2019 - Voting until 01-06-2019 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST

Well done, everybody! Overall: Really solid tracks, fun to listen to. I'll probably listen to these more on occasion, because they are so delightful. I definitely have a bias towards vocal tracks, but maybe that's because I failed at writing lyrics and want to applaud everyone else who tried working...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC021 May 2019 - preparation phase

We have 12 participants. That means that each participant can vote for 11 tracks, the staff will not cast a balance vote. ... Due to the "month exclusive sponsorship", you will get feedback from the staff (me), plus this particular top 10 vote will count double (which can completely shift...

It was really nice to not feel the need to over-do it this month. The last three have been really heavy and big, so this was a welcome change of pace. Presenting: "The Last Minute" https://soundcloud.com/anotherbenjamin/the-last-minute Instruments: I dug out the whole catalog of Full Bucke...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC021 May 2019 - Submissions until 24-05-2019 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST

I'm going to try to whip up a track, but I make no guarantees that it will be finished in time, or that it will truly sound "80s." It might ends up closer to '70s... But it will still use synths galore. At the very least, it has been fun to dive back into this music and learn a bit about h...

Pretty much all of the important stuff in in the "rules and guidelines" and starting posts for each month, although there is a lot there. Production shall ideally not exceed 10 minutes. A good practice is to try to shoot between 3 and 6 minutes of run time (unless otherwise stated) Do not ...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC020 April 2019 - Winners announced

Thanks for all of this, @Mister Fox! I know this is a lot of work to put on.

Congratulations to the entrants, and thanks for all of the feedback.
Hopefully I'll have the time this month to make some improvements and cook up some synth-pop... and I hope y'all come back soon!

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC020 April 2019 - Results in preparation

Personally, while I don't care about the overall results (yet), I want the votes to come from the entrants. Just in keeping with the original rules, podium standings should come from that the votes already placed. But I'd love some feedback and to see what you think on the matter. For me, the theme ...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC021 May 2019 - Submissions until 24-05-2019 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST

My big question with the topic is:
How exactly should we replicate synthwave / etc / etc, and how much am I allowed to experiment and innovate here?
I don't want to merely copy the ideas of someone else's music...
