We do post reminders via our Twitter account and Facebook page.

SONGWRITING THEME: Month of Spookiness

GENRE: no limitation

A few word about this month's theme:
Staff (Mister Fox) wrote:This Songwriting Competition is all about the "Month of Spookiness" - or rather the days leading up until Halloween.

There is no genre limitation. The production can be Industrial, it can be Ambient (think: a soundtrack that would fit into a horror / ghost movie), it can be upbeat EDM, it can be a "Murder Ballad", a full blown synth orchestra with screaming voices, a Horror Core Hip Hop song. You can be creative with sound design, you can tell us a story (with a faux radio play or song lyrics that would normally not fit the genre the music is in).

The sky is the limit! But please give us a "Parental Advisory" warning in advance in case your lyrical content goes a bit off the charts.

Songwriting Add-On Rules:
  • You can use samples, virtual instruments or real instruments
  • creating your own sounds is highly encouraged, but not mandatory
  • It is recommended to not go higher than -14LUFS SLk (avg) or K-12v1 (avg) in terms of perceived loudness

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please take note of the official rules - they can be found at the following thread:
Songwriting Competition - Official Rules and Guidelines

Please address any OT question in the official Gossip thread:
Songwriting Competition - Gossip and Discussion

If you need new audio material, I can recommend the following excellent places for free and affordable content:
https://rekkerd.org/
http://99sounds.org/ (BPB’s sound design label)
https://bedroomproducersblog.com/tag/free-samples/

 ! Bonus Info
The following mentioned sample sets are not mandatory to use. They're just bonus if you're in need of new sample material
Throughout the years, KVR Audio (one of the two biggest audio communities out there) linked to a lot free "horror themed" content for Halloween. If you need some inspiration (for further material for your personal collection) - here is a selection:
Digtal Nightmares Halloween Vocal Samples and Sound Effects
bigcat samples - The Door
bigcat Voices - Free and Public Domain
Volterock - Vocal Hazard Pack
Karoryfer Samples - Scary Piano
Westgate Sounds - Dreams and Nightmares (got apparently updated to a bigger, commercial set)

Direct company links
FluffyAudio AURORROR
Wavesfactory - Whispers
RAR - ZOMBIE DRUM BITS
Audiothink - Halloween Pumpkins (costs 5EUR)
embertone - various freebies (e.g. Arcane)

Bonus:
8DIO - Free You / Radicals / Angels (costs: 149USD / 129USD / 49USD respectively)

There is probably a whole lot more (like old Zero-G Altered States!).

But this should get you started if you're looking to stock up on spooky sounds, new random instruments and sound effects.

Have fun!

Again, there is no need to drop it to -18dBFS RMS avg in this challenge type
Though it is recommended to not go higher than -14LUFS SLk (avg) or K-12v1 (avg) in terms of perceived loudness

See Rules and Guidelines

Want to update the file?

EDIT:
 ! Bonus Info
To everyone: PLEASE name your song creations properly!

The naming convention is: SWC000_-_ArtistName_-_TrackName_-_ContestanttName.wav/mp3
...and not "song name only".wav/mp3

I think you've got your point across, Tbase2000. (in fact, I removed your last posts)

I'm now stating an official warning:
[warning=Mister Fox]You're now temp banned for a day.

If you continue to be disruptive and disrespectful towards other participants after the temp-ban, I'll temp-ban you from the page until the submission periods of both challenges are over (so until 25th October)

If you still continue after that particular temp-ban, you'll be sitting on the sidelines for a month[/warning]
