Hopefully I've managed to address the aforementioned issues with my initial mix.

The gut guitar during the verse 2 fights with the trumpet.
Separated the two elements through panning
I wish I have more sub below 60 (kick, bass guitar), the lowest bass notes during the verse are just not there, bc of the cut. I really love the lo mid of the bass BTW. About the bass once again I can ear to much of the slide noise, the hi is maybe too boosted.

I eased off the HP filter on both the kick and bass (low dup) EQ's to let more sub info through and well as an overall level boost to my low duplicate bass track.
I cut the overall level of my distorted duplicate bass track to help subdue some of the slide noise.
Stereo :Good, but the bck vocals could be more centered, especially in your mix, more glued with the main track. It would be better for the gtrs and brass I think.
I panned all of the backing vocals a lot closer to the centre to help add focus to the main vocal and give more room out wide for the brass.
I also added a bit of 500Hz to the brass group for extra body and going off the reference I added some subtle air to the hats and tamb for more sparkle through EQ and multiband verb.
Thanks again MOA22 for supplying such a cool track, I was a pleasure to mix, cheers.

Wizzo :
Loudness -17,8 db LUFS integrated. (target = -18).
Balance : Good one, but the bass guitar is loud (Tone). The hihat is too loud for me. Vocals just nicely mixed. Strong Brass (verses), no problem. I need a stronger lead vocal during the chorus, no so much but a bit. There is a kind of hole in the mix at 300, feels better with a 2 db boost

Tone : The bass gtr need more below 70, and is strong between 120 and 200, that is cool but too much for me. Take care, your desseer works too hard for me. The kick could be boosted (mid + hi mid).

Stereo : Large and nice

Space/reverb : The left panned guitar has a verb that is not in the mix for me. The lack of room around the drums make the too upfront (but not too loud). The singing crew during the choruses is too massive just like there were just a pair of mic for 3 or 4 clones of me !

Dynamics/distortion : I need more level explosion when come the choruses. The guitars maybe need a bit more attack. Just a tiny more bit for the Kick and Snare could help (tone for the kick)

General : Good mix Wizzo. Thank you for that. Nice fx on the brass that help the song !! The most important issue is the way you mixed the vocals during the choruses. Peace !
Hello Moa22 ,everyone,

-Reduce bass tone and hihat as well and increased vocal a little during the chorus
-increased mid range area a little bit and added 70hz below to bass gtr and reduce 120-200 as well a little .
-changed gtr reverb it's more polished now ,and added room reverb to the drums
-changed bgvs mix completely , and it's less massive during the chorus (hopefully  )
-working with desseer plugin and now less compress on vocal, and added mid-hi mid to the kick and snare as well .

Good luck all,

Cheers !

Hey everyone,

It's late...

I did what I think MOA22 would like from what he said, and revisited the mix.

Good luck everybody, I hope nobody will miss the deadline.

See you soon,
Kevin.

Hi everyone,

Here's the revised mix, I tried to address all the things pointed out in the feedback:

MP3: https://mega.nz/#!ZWRCQKLR!f3GpUr3wOhJi ... 9Ghc_Y6Pkg
WAV: https://mega.nz/#!ZHJWCB6A!IgdV0zk1yvGA ... vJnmNfTl80

The mix was okay but there were quite some problems. Cleaned the noise, the low end, brought up the guitars and down the intro. Also rebalanced the voice and bgv, and gave them a bit more space. Hope it's good now.

Cheers

Hi,

thanks MOA for the detailed feedback!
I adressed the points you mentioned (which were very valid) and a lot more, since the Round 1 mix wasn't really finished. You know how it is, once you change one thing everything else has to be adjusted accordingly. :) I also pulled down the main somewhat and hope that better matches your loudness goal.

Once I was nearly finished I gave the mentioned reference a listen. My mix reflects absolutely how I feel about your song and I could not take the track into account at that point. Luckily it's not too far off, I think, but your song is definitely more Rock'n'Roll!

Unexpectedly, no space left on my C-drive + running Pro Tools BETA *#&XX%!! just hampered my last evening to really dig into this mix, ugh! All self-inflicted of course, but I managed to fight my way to the surface a couple of hours ago, lol.

David, your feedback was spot on (I agree on just about everything), so I have tried to address every single comment of yours:

More brass and more weight around 800 Hz. Panned the bastids wider! :)
Vocals less 1 kHz and warmed up.
Vocals more dry 1st verse.
Less "drive" on the mix bus (there wasn't much there to begin with).
Tried more "punch" for the snare. I am not satisfied with it, but time is running out.

I did not reference the Alain Bashung song, as it is too late in the process - I would have to start over. I refuse to pull the simple EQ match stunt. But I would have loved to referenced that mix - it is very good and the song is awesome!
