Hello,

here is my version of this fabulous song.

What should I say? Business as usual. I did EQing, compression, added reverb and delay. For this song i used a lot of gates, but for creative reasons. From technical view, there was not much to fix. I used the DI version tracks provided in addition to the Amped ones. And I did lots, lots of automation. This was necessary since the song has a few different parts and a lot of vocals tracks.

All in all i tried to get in the near the wisches of the provider/band - upfront drums and "not important guitars". Therefore i listend to a lot of contemporary german music. But for me, it is a great rock song aswell.

Here are all my files

Hello,

Nice to see some new faces here, welcome guys!

Here is my mix.

I multed the guitars and the lead vocals into specific sections.

I used eq, compression, saturations, reverbs and delays.

There are parallel compressions on the 2BUS as well as on the main busses (drums, bass, guit, vox, bvox etc...).

I tried to stay "neutral" because the client said he wants just the thing without too much FX's.
However Dr acula's mix is biting me (very nice use of creative FX's) so maybe if I go Round 2 I will follow that way...

See you soon,
Kevin.

Here's mine...

Created rear buss for bass and guitars sidechained to vocals, drums pretty standard. Bass was a mix of amp and Bass Professor 2 on DI. Tried a few different amp sims for the DI guitars. The vocals were an exercise in sibilance control. Looking for a whispery vocal that's not harsh or hissy.

Very fun project, great performance from all musicians and the singer sounds great!

I used parallel compression on almost everything, SSL G.
Also used both the amp and DI tracks for guitars and bass.
All the Eq is done with API 550B.
Had to do quite a lot of automation of the vox, but thats fun when the singer sounds so good.

Thanks!

Very nice song! Unfortunately I JUST found out about this competition, so I had very little time to work on it. I just completed it within a few hours today. Had I have had more time, I probably could've been much more creative with editing and FX, but I have to say I am still very happy with the way this mix turned out. I used quite a bit of saturation to achieve more of an analog feel, but I still managed to maintain the crisp and punchy sound you'd expect from a heavy rock song by using lots of compression and EQ.

Everithing was putten into busses (kicks, drums, instruments, etc...) where I did most of the processing.
DRUMS: Noting on kick out and a little low shelf boost and compression only on sub kick. Kick group was then gated and equalized boosting treble freq and killing 200 and 700. Snare had v-shaped eq and a ton of transients added, via eq and transient shaper. Also clipped a little and sent to a plate verb. Toms where edited, eq and compressed. Overheads, hi-hat and ride brutally hi-passed and compressed. Room was squashed to death.
Parallel distorsion on hi-passed drums (cymbals excluded) to add treble. On drum buss there is tape saturation, compression and some v-shaped eq.
BASS: I low-passed D.I. and distorted hi-passed amp, then put compression on buss.
GUITARS: eq'd out some harmonics on all guitars. Shaping and compression on clean guitars, eq on distortion guitars. Verb on both and delay on guitar6
No reamp on guitars, only amp tracks.
All BACKGROUND VOCALS where bussed and processed only there. They where equalized, compressed, de-essed and saturated-compressed again.
VOCALS: compression, clean-up/shaping eq, compression again, chorus, saturation and more shaping eq.
The big part of the mix was to clean the drums and the guitars, and shaping bass and vocals to fit in the song.

Hi all, good to be back!
Had to join for this one, great production, thanks for the tracks, it´s been fun to mix it!

As ever, I will list only some special mix moves here, since it would be overkill to enter all the EQ and Compression details etc.

For Lead Vocals I used quite a lot of plugins but all doing only little. Waves Vocal Rider first to even out levels before going into EQ and compression, Waves MV2 to bring out a bit more details, followed by MJUC, Soothe, Waves LinMB, Slate Tape, LA2A, Waves Maserati VX1, and two Waves Deessers. Again none of them doe extreme things.

Whispers have been treated together with Deessers, Stock EQ and Compression, Dimension D-like Chorus, and Transient Designer to smoothen out the attacks. Also BGVs have been treated as one with the same effects.

Drums: Apart from Stock EQ and compression on I put on Waves Smack Attack to dial in the transients, and a bit of CLA Drums to round of and hype them a tiny bit. All four cymbal tracks have been quickly treated together with Waves JJP Cymbals, but only subtly to bring out some sparkle to the top end. Room tracks have been untreated.

Bass has been split in low and high region using DI track low passed at 120 Hz, Amp track high passed at 120 Hz, both compressed quite a bit. Both bussed together and compressed and EQed again (LA2A), Trackspacer siede chained with Kick, Bass Rider and CLA Bass.

Guitars sounded great to me as they were, only little stock EQ and chorus used here and CLA guitars subtly to round them of and stereo/widen a bit. DI tracks not used.

On the Vocal Bus but I tested the new Boz ProVocative, and liked it a lot, automated the mix knob for different regions.
Other than that lots of automation, but there still needs to be done quite a bit more.

One stock convolutin reverb and Slate´s Verbsuite used subtly on sends here and there, but I tried to be subtle and make it sound up front and natural.

On Stereo Bus I used the usual Slate Bus Compressor, bit of EQ, Slate Tape and a limiter just for safety.

Hope you like it, good luck to all!

Cheers,
Herb
