Hello-
Here is my mix:
WAV: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m6sfzqi8oxe1n ... f.wav?dl=0
MP3: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ynk3l6go2ueg9 ... f.mp3?dl=0

About my process:

Overall Mix:
All done in the box (LPX). Rear-buss compression is used, as well as a desk emulator on the Stereo Out for color.

Drums:
All drum tracks were used. (Also, no drum replacements were used.) Things got a bit washy in the loud parts, so the "Room M" is much higher than the "Room S" track, and both the "Overheads" and "OH C" tracks are fairly low in the mix.
EQ: Hi-/ low-pass as needed.
Noise Gate: To kill some of the bleed and tighten control.
Transient shaper: to make up for what the gate took away.
Parallel compression is also present throughout.

Bass:
Compression and saturation for color.
EQ: Hi-/ Low-pass. A dynamic low-shelf EQ is side-chained to the kick to duck out of the way of the kick's attacks. A tiny boot at 700 Hz for added attack.

Clean Guitar:
All guitars were re-amped.(No guitar "Amp" tracks were used anywhere in this mix.) "Git DI 1" is panned hard left and "Git DI 2" is panned hard right.
EQ: Hi-/ Low-pass
FX: Long delay and imager to widen.

Distorted Guitars:
All guitars were re-amped.(No guitar "Amp" tracks were used anywhere in this mix.) "Git DI 3" is panned hard left and "Git DI 4" is panned hard right."Git DI 5" is panned hard left and "Git DI 6" is panned hard right.
EQ: Hi-/ Low-pass
FX: Guitars 3 and 4 have a crunch distortion. Guitars 5 and 6 are more heavily distorted. Imager used to widen.

Vocals
Serial compression: First compressor was heavy, followed by two more lighter compressors. Finally a last compressor is added for color. Also a touch of saturation.
EQ: Hi-/ Low-pass
De-ess: To control sibilance.
FX: During the choruses, there is an ADT effect. During the break, the vocal track is doubled, and a "broken radio" effect is inserted for drama. During the final chorus, the vocal is again doubled and blended with a vocoder effect.

Thanks for listening.

Best regards,
Jeff

Hey Guys,

here is my mix:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9ucrr2q5tsa2q ... k.mp3?dl=0

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9d0uq7vqr40e9 ... k.wav?dl=0

I mixed with my Console 1, so every channel got filtered, EQd and compressed by that stock channelstrip if needed.

The Drums got some Valhalla Vintage Verb, a Distressor Buscompression and some transient shaping. I also got 2 parallel processing channels.
I reamped bass and guitars via a kemper, to give them the tones I wanted.
The vocals got a few additional effects like delays, reverbs, ADT, excitement and also parallel compression.
The overall mix got some compression and general EQing to fit my references / my taste!

Cheers, Phil

Hi Guys,
Thanks for doing this.
Great song, great arrangement, great performances, and great recording! It was a real pleasure mixing this song.
Here's my take on it:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nlQj_M ... sp=sharing
https://drive.google.com/file/d/15jIHvc ... sp=sharing

I didn't know that documentation was mandatory, so I am editing my post to include it.

Drums:
Kick: ‘in mic’ only. Moderate boost at the lowest octave (20-40Hz). Two moderate cuts centered around 400Hz and 4000 Hz.
Snare: Top and bottom mics almost equal in volume. A tiny cut around 600Hz.
Drum Bus: Top octave boost to add some shimmer. A little bit of bus compression. There’s an automated HF limiter kicking in at the outro to tame the high frequencies when the drummer rides the crash cymbal.
No compression on individual tracks, only some parallel compression, and some parallel tape saturation. Room mics fairly high in the drum mix.

Bass:
A very steep high-pass filter starting at 62 Hz. Nothing else, no compression, no eq. Amp signal 10 dB lower than the D.I. signal.

Guitars:
Clean Gtrs 1 and 2: Tiny boost around 12K with a large Q.
Drive Gtrs 3 and 4: Mid boost around 500 Hz.
Drive Gtrs 5 and 6 No eq.
The same parallel compression and the same parallel tape saturation for all guitars before they hit the bus.
Guitar Bus: 1176 (6-7dB gain reduction at the loudest point).

Vocal:
Wide-band deesser. Parallel compression. Parallel distortion (Rat pedal). A substantial, bell-shaped boost at the highest octave, centered at 20 KHz. A moderate cut around 2K. Lots of reverb: a fairly long pre-delayed EMT plate ducked by the dry signal.

Master Bus: Limiter to match the loudness of the sample mix.

Hi all,

This is my mix. Thank you for the opportunity and good luck to all!

This is my workflow:

1. I clean up every track and add color with preamp plug-ins, broad stroke EQ, low level compression/limiting/clipping, tape saturation. I render these tracks to preserve CPU power.
2. I buss all instruments, drums, guitars, vocal, bass. All busses have a preamp and compression plugin in multi mono mode. I add EQ, limiting or clipping later if necessary.
3. I balance the mix and add FX as I go
4. When the mix starts to sound balanced, I add EQ, compression and tape saturation to the master buss.
5. I continue EQing and leveling the mix. I add/adjust FX and tweak Master buss plugs.
6. Automation

Individual processing:
Bass drum : transient designer, EQ, clipping
Snare: transient designer, EQ, clipping
HH: EQ HPF, sidechain comp to duck the snare bleed
Toms: EQ, limiting.
Overheads: L/R timing adjustment to fix phase issues, compression, EQ, limiting.
Rooms: L/R timing adjustment to fix phase issues, compression, EQ
Drum buss as per described above, compression set to 50% (parallel comp)
FX: plate reverb on overheads and the reverb send compressed (sidechained to BD to lessen the ambience of the BD).

Guitars: Reamped with Amplitube + a little bit of original. SSL style EQ and compression
Guitar buss as per described above.
FX: medium hall reverb on reamped guitars. Phaser on guitars in the bridge. A slight tape delay on the guitars in the verse.

Bass: time alignment, compression, EQ. In the choruses I added some distortion.
Bass buss as per described above. Limiting added. Fed a little bit into the Drum buss as well.
FX: chorus to widen, but EQed with HPF 100 Hz to keep everything below mono

Voice: levelled with vocal rider (Waves), 1176 comp, slow attack, fast release, Eq, stereo chorus and micro pitch shift (in the choruses only)
Vox buss as per described above.
FX: small room + larger plate + delay in the choruses.

Cheers,
FP

Hi all
First time for me to enter such a contest. Have to say it was great fun to work with this nicely prepared material!
here the files:

WAV: https://drive.google.com/file/d/17bNyqQ ... sp=sharing
MP3: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CidHfH ... sp=sharing

Used all tracks excluding the ride track and the Guitar DI tracks.
main mixing work was done with the Reason mixer, the Reason built in effects / rack extensions and just a single VST plugin.

DRUMS:
Added a bit of tape saturation here and there and used some parallel compression.

BASS:
Used Bass amp and Bass DI with the line6 Bass amp from reason.
Did a bit of sidechaining with the kick drum.

GUITARS:
Used the amped versions only, added some reverb here and there and also saturation.
For the bridge I also used the NI phasis plugin

VOICE:
Used a very little amount of the Softtube Saturation Knob, Reverb and quite heavy compression.
Created a copy of the track with a bit a different processing and mixed it with the lead track in the verses

MASTER BUS:
As there seems to be no mastering allowed, I just used a bit of the Reason Master Bus compression (SSL style) to make it slightly more pleasant. 😊
Already looking forward to the next contest!
