Hi,
I will make an update tonight. I apologize for the delay. Things have been hectic.
Cheers,
Hi, would it be possible to also leave a review for the mixes that didn't make it to round 2?
I would really like to know what I could do better - that's in fact the reason why I participate.

Thanks! :)
Hi, vitaminx,

I would gladly say a few words on your mix. I try to write a PM when I find some time. But please keep in mind that I comment on people's work not because I am entitled but because I am required. Since many of you are working professionals, I doubt that my comments would be any real help. I make those comments from a purely subjective perspective. And as I mentioned in my initial post, there are many excellent mixes which didn't make it to the second round not because they are not good enough but because I am only allowed to pick 10 of them. (which I stretched to 12 by the way).
cheers,
stilespod

Greeting, here is my submission for Round 2. I listened again to my 1st mix and Erginozler was rightguitars too up front and vocals too far back in terms of space. Thanks for the opportunity and the advancement into Round 2!!

I ended up remixing it from scratch due to the fact I felt like my entire mix was slightly "synthetic" in terms of some of the frequencies.

Drums-a little EQ on kick and snare from SSL Channel strip, Hi Pass on the OH and Rooms

Bass-- Pod Farm Ampeg 15 flip top amp sim

Guitars--very minor L1 limiting and a Parallel spring reverb

Vocal-CLA Vocal Plugin

Master Bus--UAD Oxide and Neve 88RS Channel Strip

Hello all, here is my revision mix.I tried not to do a lot,but get those highs more in this mix which after listening back were missing. So I added some highs or upper mids to all the different instrument.I tried just bumping everything at first ,but ended up being to much.I then went back and payed more attention to what was going on and ended up with this version.(note to self small adjustments go a long way) :baytins:
I also cleaned the bass up a little and tried to beef the kic up a touch. I went back and add some saturation when I was done too.

Also, per Mister fox request, I will be taking the tracks off sound cloud once the contest is over.

Thanks for the chance to mix your song Sarp Keskiner and also eriozler if different person.

See you all next year! Happy Holidays!

Hi,

Thank you for choosing me for round two
It is great to see that my mix was fine at all and you to not want me to change it in general. You mentioned to add some satturation. So I tried several things and ended up with the Thrillseeker XTC by Variety of Sounds. I put it in the mix-bus. It gives a certain amount of warmth and changes the stereo feeling a bit. But in a nice way! So here is my round 2 version.

Here's my new version for round two.

I touched almost everything, but the basic concept is pretty same as on the first round.
Smaller room, and thereby also a bit brighter and more aggressive sound.

So this is the revision.
The changes:
Vocals:
Removed plosives by automating the RBass Plugin (you were totally right Ergin, RBass of course boosted that shit too, what a surprise! :face:
Took out two nasty frequencies (mids/low mids), which may have contributed to the constrained feel.
Added a little ambience using Abbey Road Plates and Chambers
Snare:
also a bit more ambience (H-Reverb)
Guitars:
subtly added UAD Marshall Plexi (low gain setting) in parallel for a little crunch
Master Bus:
added a dB of mid frequencies here and there where I felt were missing, also a little widening with Ozone Imager

Hope you like it!

Hi, thank you for your kind words erginozler.

I have added some high end frequency information back into the mix. I found one of the slate plugins on my drum bus was rolling off the high end.

After adding the high end i had to re-balance the track, adding more low mids to the guitars and raised the level of the bass guitar and kick

Here is a link to the modified mix

Thanks again!

Hello!

Thanks for your super kind review erginozler.

I removed the slap delay you did not like, and pushed the drums as you requested.

I found the result more energetic, I hope you will like the result too...

Time to sleep here anyway, good night!

Ergin Özler, I had to mix from scratch  I'm a Pro Tools (DAW) beta tester and during mixing "I'm Alright", I installed many new builds. I know there is a risk, but it's very small. But this time I was punished. Due to a bug in some of the builds, all my most recent mix sessions of your song became corrupt. I couldn't roll back. So, I mixed from scratch.

So, the sound is not the same, but maybe it's still to your liking. There is more low-end impact now and the high-end is more natural to my ears. I made the guitars less "chorousy" to improve impact. Also, the vocal is less processed, but I'm still doing a lot of frequency corrections, to try tame the several areas of harshness. It's is quite tough to keep it under control while still have vocal clarity. I'm pretty happy with the result, especially because I was under time pressure due to having to redo the whole mix.

I tried to again have the same room feel of the band playing. Short reverbs, subtle delay on several parts to sculpt a compact and tight "club" feel to the sound. I was very happy to read your comment from round 1: "It has old-school hard’n’heavy aesthetics". Thank you for your comments and for providing this very cool blues rock song for us to mix! Last note: the vocal and bass guitar are standouts, I think. Super cool performance!
