A question, since I'm here for the first time (and just heard myself through all the mixes). I wanted to add the hint to my submission that I did not work with drum samples and write the reference level to the text. But the subsequent editing of the text is not allowed, right?

I think text editing is OK as long as you don't change the mix itself.

BTW, on the first page it says drum samples are not allowed but looks like a lot of people used them...

Hi Folks!

Thank you fajebru, Rahel, and once again MisterFox for making this possible!

This month's contest was very much fun because of a great song and greatly recorded tracks. I think so far the best recording quality that I've encountered here during my short membership.

Here's my submission:

Wav: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5nbsuzgn8dck9 ... o.wav?dl=0

mp3: https://www.dropbox.com/s/boe685gkvla6l ... o.mp3?dl=0

I mixed it in Studio One 3 in a kind of "Brauerizing" manner, using multiple Busses A, B, C, D.
Also i used multiple parallel vocal compression tracks. You see in the screenshots which plugins I used.
I split the vocals in Verse and Chorus Tracks, and used deverberate to get rid of some of the room sound in the first verse.
I used vocal rider, eiosis deesser, mv2, and scheps omni, before going into the compression busses.

I didn't reamp anything, just eqing.
On the bass i used peq-x and Scheps parallel particles. Also no reamping.

my main eqs were Scheps Omni and CLA Mixhub.

On the master buss I used about -1db of ssl bus compression for glue.

I hope you like it!
Cheers!

Thank you, Gloukin. Yes, that's exactly why I want to write that I do not use any. While listening to all submissions, I've heard a few who use samples. One or two write it also in their info.

Hi All,
Thanks to Mister Fox for running this competition and fajebru for the awesome song.

Here is my submission:
WAV
MP3

I really loved the singer's voice on this track and she did an amazing job!
Consequently, I spent a considerable amount of time on getting her lead and background vocals to sit right in the mix.
I also used a lot of automation on the vocal and some substantial compression and short delays to bring her voice forward in the mix.

I also didn't use any of the "amped" bass or guitar tracks but instead re-amped the DI tracks to better control the tone of the guitars.
I also used a lot of automation on the guitar tracks to make them stand out in places.

I've tried to keep the dynamics of the drums wherever possible but bring out their punch with a lot of little bits of parallel compression on the kick, snare and drum bus.

I've used a lot of parallel compression on the tracks (usually 2:1 ratio with between 1-7 dB of gain reduction depending on how aggressive I wanted the tone) and then very subtle parallel mix-bus compression (2:1 ratio, < 1 dB GR) on the master bus.
Although there was a lot of light compression used, I've tried to preserve the dynamics.

In terms of reverb and delays, I've mostly used very short reverbs (< 0.5 s) and short delays just to add ambience and glue to the tracks.
There is a longer darker plate reverb used on the vocal (RT 1 second) to give the voice more depth.

Mixed in Reaper v5.979
Sends and plugins used

Best of luck to everyone!
Cheers,
Anto

Thanks Rahel for providing another great song to mix.

I ended up using all the original files, no re-amping.
The drums as a group were eq-ed and compressed then overdriven to suit the style and make the drum section standup.
I added a longer verb to the vocals to combat the baked in early reflections.
The Bass has quite a bit of low end to add impact.
I low-passed the guitars that were too buzzy, and then limited to keep consistent.
The master bus has glue compression and tape emulation.

Edit: looks like I swapped the links, should be right now.

I saw this challenge quite on the last minute, listened to the original and went "oh, nice song.. don't have much time to mix it but let's try!". So.. I present you my 3-hour mix - a quick overview:

DRUMS - Some heavy hitting on Softube Tape, compression and eq on the bus without kick tracks. Another bus containing all drum tracks has some additional eq, multiband comp and even a transient designer. As for individual tracks it's worth mentioning Room M track which was only used for the solo - got some heavy saturation and compression.
BASS - Compression, saturation and a touch of eq. Original idea was to blend the DI and amp signal but they were not lined up, so I dumped the plan to save time and went with the amped sound.
GUITARS - Some eq and compression, nothing special. Some spring reverb on the cleaner guitars.
VOCALS - Aside from usual eq, compression and de-essing got a bit of saturation happening. Touch of reverb and delay.
MASTER - Pultec style eq, some multiband compression (gotta have that glue) and a limiter to bring up the volume.

Hi Folks,

Here is my submission:

WAV: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1g90tQ ... eX1-HGHr6p

DAW: ProTools 2018.12
I didn’t use the Ride and the Room Tracks as it had more bleeding than actual contribution to the sound. I used the given Amp sound of Bass and Guitars.
All Plugins were ProTools stock plugins (except Saturation and Loudness Metering which are from Melda Production).
I used a silence strip, EQ and BF-76 on almost all channels.
* Subkick and Kick with low pass filters (180Hz for Sub, 4k for Kick)
* Rest of the drums with high pass filters, gave a little boost for snare and toms above 4k, cut away a bit around 3k. Little Reverb on Snare and Toms.
* Bass: HPF at 30Hz, Saturator by MeldaProductions.
* Guitars: HPF at 160Hz, cut away a bit around 3k, Reverb.
* Vox: HPF, Little boosts at 150Hz and 3k, De-Esser, Saturator. Very little Reverb (D-Verb) and Delay. Automated bigger delay on the last phrase.
* Parallel compression of drum-bus, bass, guitar-bus, lead-vox and back-box.
* Automation on the drums to boost the intro and the solo.
* Used the DI-Signals of Guitar 1 and 2 as input for a little effect delay on some phrases.
Mixed all to -18dBFS on average.

Good look to everyone. May the best mix win
