Hi all,

Here comes my mix. This track was not easy to mix. There is a lot going on and I tried to make it not too stuffed by using a lot of automation. But I like the creativity in the arrangement and the overall mood of it!
I used only the dry versions and did all gating with the A1 Trigger Gate (nice tool btw) and used my own delays.

WAV: https://www.dropbox.com/s/0t9rlsaarlmj2 ... c.wav?dl=0

Mixed in Reaper v5.33.

Drumbus: FerricTDS, ReaEQ
Kick: ReaEQ, ReapComp, ReapGate (to shorten the sound), BitterSweet II for more attack
E-Kick: ReaEQ, ReapComp
Snare: ReaEQ, TDR VOS Slick
Clap clean: ReaEQ,ReapGate (to shorten the noise)
Clap modulate: ReaEQ, NastyDLA
Hihats, Crash, Ride and Tambourines: ReaEQ

Bass: ReaEQ, Bass Professor II
Gatedelecbass dry: Bittersweet II for less attack, ReaEQ, A1TriggerGate, TAL Filter, TDR Nova*

Arpsynth1 dry: ReaEQ, A1TriggerGate, ReapComp
Arpsynth2: ReaEQ, DD AutoPan, TAL Filter, TDR Nova*
Padsynth1: ReaEQ, TDR Nova*
Padsynth2: ReaEQ
12-String: ReaEQ
Celeste dry: ReaEQ, NastyDLA, MideSideMangler to increase side channel

Mainvoc: ReaEQ, S.LAX, ReaDelay
Mainvoc echos: Copy of some words from above to create echo FX with NastyDLA
HarmonyFX: S-LAX, ReaEQ
Vocfordistortion: S.LAX, CamelPhat3, ReaEQ, ReaDelay

Reverbs: Acon Digital Verberate, TAL III
Mixbus: MQ57, TDR Kotelnikov, SPAN

*)TDR Nova is used to reduce some extrem frequencies (De-esser mode)

Hi all!

Was an interesting song to mix, it gets pretty busy at times but nothing that automation couldn't clean up. Track has some really clever delay use! The song reminded me of a couple bands actually and in no particular order: MGMT, U2 & Radiohead. Went with a slightly more groovy laid-back style but still kept the drums up-front.

Notes:

Made a fake room-mic track with some sends to glue the drums and add a more gritty "live sound".
Automated filter & sends on intro.
Distorting Auto-Filter(Soundtoys Filter Freak2) on celeste during certain passages.
Used "elecdrums-clap" from the printed FX folder 'cause I preferred it over my version(If it aint broke  ).
Used the A1 plug on the other elements(fun plug - thanks for the heads up, will come in handy).
Used mainly EchoBoy for the delays except for a re-amped analog delay pedal for a bit of slap-back on the main vocal.
SPL EQ-Ranger Plus & Vertigo VSM-3 on the mix-bus in very small amounts though.

Heyho!

I'm early this time because I'm out of town the whole upcoming week. So I have to let it go now... :)

I felt that the song should be somewhat airy and "oddworldly" but still with a strong foundation. It reminded me of Moby a bit, but is very different. Because the "demanded" Gate/Delay is already taking up a lot of space, I didn't went too crazy with additional FX. But I did add a lot of verbs to create a lush and dense world where it all lives in. The "harmonies" are now more of a cushion for the lead vocal because I found them to be very unpleasant as a dominant part of the mix.
Really a challenging piece, it's a very unique style. Thanks for sharing this!

Please I will not wish to go to second round as I can't re do the mix. Since my trial version expired I won't be able to recreate the mix. I really wanted to share it before I finished mixing this song. It is not even finished. Vox needs gain staging but hey it is going to be useful for reference for people who managed to pass to second round. I just enjoyed the production that is why I spend like 2 hours on this mix. Good luck you all. https://www.dropbox.com/s/wfr4tjhqc05q6 ... y.mp3?dl=0

Had a lot of fun with this one and used a lot of different techniques creatively but my main focus was just to follow the vibe that was starting to emerge and not lose it by over mixing. I really enjoy the track and hope you feel that vibe I was going for. Love the A1 trigger gate. I think we are all winners in this contest for being exposed to that gem of software! I am using mainly stock Protools EQ and Compressor with some CLA plugins from waves and revibe 2 reverb. Heavy use of volume automation on every track and plugin automation on a lot of them as well. I am using different compressor settings for the different sections of the song on drums and went for a live drummer feel. Neat song with a great message aptly titled Tinfoil. Can't get much better than that! Good luck to everyone who entered!

Hello!

Here comes my take on this very cool song. Mixed it in Reason and used the A1audio. A very tasty plugin!
