A friendly reminder:
24 left to submit your mix.

If you've been sitting on the fence, now is the time to finish and upload.

Also - a reminder of the rule set:
IMPORTANT: please take note that the rule set was slightly altered. It is now mandatory to provide WAV files (FLAC bar minimum on low internet bandwidth), files need to be accessible/downloadable, try to work within suitable work levels, document your edits (as simple or as detailed as you like)
There is barely any documentation going on. Please fix that! Part of what the Mix Challenge is about, is the educational side of things. But if there is nothing to learn from each other, then the whole idea of an "fun and educational game" is lost. Even a simple hotlinked screenshot of your mixing console would suffice.

Here we go again! I went for a mix that can be turned up loud to get the club dance groove going. :hihi:

This is the 1st mix I've used the Bx Console G on. I had Britson Channel & Bx Console G on most tracks, along with Britson Bus on the buses and liked what I was getting. I used the Elysia Niveau Filter with automation on the Bass to get some interest in the front of the song, along with a touch of chorus to widen it a bit. I used Transpire to add some attack on the Kick followed by the Bx Limiter to control it. I used the PSP Vintage Warmer on the B&D (Bass & Drums) bus - I'm liking that plugin more & more (a little goes a long way!). All the delays are EchoBoy Jr and I'm using MTurboReverb for the vocals along with Acon Digital Verberate on the Synths. The Master bus had Britson Bus, A1 Stereo Control (to mono the bass below 150Hz), and MDynamicsMB for multiband compression.

Hi there!

Here´s my entry.

Did it Sonar Platinum, using mostly whatever comes with it, and some Acustica Audio plugins here and there as well.

Will try to update this post later with a pic of my mixer.

Now, got to finish my tune for the SongWritingChallenge in time!

Good luck to everyone!

Very last minute.
So honestly I downloaded the files and mixed them in an hour. No idea what the song sounded like. I took it as a challenge just to see if I could pull it off. 0 automation unfortunately. What I did was go down each track and listen to it, compress it, eq it, make the changes I thought it needed by instinct and didn't second guess the choices. Some of my pans are not thought out and should be automated. The core of the busy sections I think are balanced. Another hour and I could have had a better presentation.

It is the 22nd September 2017, 1:45am GMT+1/CEST - the first Mix Round has officially ended

If I didn't miscount, we have 18 participants this month! Six participants less than last month (24).
There have been no submissions after the deadline.

Please check all if your links again, make them downloadable. Those that uploaded MP3s only, please take note: providing a FLAC (on low bandwidth)/WAV (on DSL and higher) file is mandatory now.

From the 18 participants, only 6 contestants documented what they did, 2 additional ones hinted at it. Nobody else provided anything or at least a screenshot. The challenge is all about "learning from each other". So please, update your posts with minimal documentation for others to learn from (see Rules & Guidelines).

Please watch this spot for the client feedback and Mix Round 2 participant announcement.
Good luck to all participants

So...

Here´s my mixer:
Shok mixer b.jpg

This are the busses:
Shok busses b.jpg

You´ll see there´s a lot of plugins for the snare. What I tried to do was to have more attack from it, I felt it lacked the "stick"... ehm... "hitting"... the "drum"...

So the gate is there to get the "peak" of the snare sample. Then I used the saturator to kind of square top that peak, and also make it fatter. Then with the reverb I sort of created a tail... this I compressed getting even more of the attack out. Then the Izotope delay... got this one when it was a freebie... and it´s awesome. It has two delays, and a threshold to control what goes in to each of those. Last, Acustica Audio Lime pre. After freezing this track, I liked the sound, however the resulting tail (after the delay repetition) was a little long... so I put another gate... sort of like a gated reverb.

(continues in the next post... seems I can only attach three files and have four pics!)
