FINAL SUBMISSION

Stars

Nothing very insightful to say about the process this month. I saw the romantic, earthly side of this month's image. I heard either shimmering brass or strings, and decided to put my new Viola Da Gamba library to use. This song is more like a songwriting "etude" for me. It's a little too sappy and treacly for me, but still tried to make it a good, solid song and recording.

Beautiful. Very basic but that contributes to the song I guess. If i could give some feedback on the production it is that i think with a longer hall (maybe?) reverb the climax of the song (from around 2 minutes) would shine more. I have the feeling that the room (?) verb you have used doesn't do.justice to the vocal there. Could also be a little too much low mid information in the verb. But my compliments for the song.

Thanks, I appreciate that you liked it. Yeah, there is definitely a problem with the mix in the 200-400 range. The sampled instruments have resonancnes/howls in that range that I found hard to fix, and the dark reverb contributes to it. I get your point about a longer reverb, but on a personal level, I really like the intimate, dark, room reverb I'm using, it's the vibe I hear, even though it's adding to the lower mid issues.

This is very evocative piece, there's a nice sense of "narration" in the music.

I think the melodies and general material is all good. If feel like, if it were real people playing, there'd be more push and pull of when any of the parts are in the lead or background. I guess I'm hearing more about phrases and smaller parts of the form, as opposed to someone's the lead for this section, then the next, then the next.

Still, the music ideas are clear, so it's a matter of refining and polishing.

I'm doing a collab with Paramnesia this month.
He's done the music and I'm doing the vocals.

I really like that the mix is warm, big, and deep, but still has a really clean electronic sound.

I enjoyed it, but have to say by about 1:20 felt like I'd heard all already. This is all subjective stuff, but I feel like if the drums had more variety in rhytms, or if themes got melodically, or rhythmically, or sonically shook up or evolved more, it could keep the song going on for a long time.

Still a solid track and is mixed very well.

Cool! I’m looking forward to seeing the collab result.
Are you planning to create your own track too?

Hi Elcubano

I will if I have time...it's touch and go at the moment, but I'm keen.
How about you?

Thank you for your comments. I Agree with what you are saying. It is all a bit clean....not sure how to change that. Is it a sound thing or is it because it is all played to the grid? Or both maybe. About the variaty.....it is good that you mention that. After a while it is hard to keep objective with my own music. I hope I can find something interesting to add and give it some boost.

Cheers, Jeroen

Hi, thanks you for your feedback. I'm grateful for your possitive comments.

When it comes to the "push and pull" and "lead and background". Do you mean making some parts less noisy to make others stand out? (I'm sorry, I'm an ignorant when it refers to music editing). Like, when the piano appears again, lower the volume of the strings? Or even sometimes make the strings and cello dissapear to make a Solo piano? Again, thanks for your feedback.

P.S: I will be giving my feedback this friday. Thanks for your comments and time!
