Edit: added mp3

Very good quality material to work with.
I did the same old eq-ing, compress, etc. but this time I went back to trying a little top-down mixing I abandoned a long time ago.
A little v-shaped eq on drums, compression on bus, kick, snare and room.
Compression on bass, mainly mid boost eq on guitar, compression, eq and saturation on vocals.

Hi again.

The link for the wave file, in my previous post was to a 123bpm version.

For some reason best known to itself, the mp3 file rendered correctly but the Wav didn't.

The correct link is : https://soundcloud.com/dwgh/mc047-rahel ... stcoast2-2

It is the 22nd September 2018, 9:45am GMT+2/CEST - the first Mix Round has officially ended

A very warm welcome to all new participants. And a huge thank you to everyone that is spreading the word about the Mix Challenge.

Statistics will be edited in later this day. However, we have one submission after the deadline, and one resubmission (due to a render error). Keep in mind, this can result in a disqualification.

Please check all if your links again, make them downloadable(!, especially SoundCloud links). Those that uploaded MP3s only, please take note: providing a FLAC (on low bandwidth)/WAV (on DSL and higher) file is mandatory now. Those of you that only uploaded a WAV, a MP3 version would be nice. Please also update your posts with minimal documentation for others to learn from (see Rules & Guidelines).

I now open the field for everyone to give each other feedback (highly encouraged). This will be independent to the client feedback however.

Please watch this spot for the client feedback and Mix Round 2 participant announcement.

Good luck to all participants.

The Songwriting Competition 13 (SWC13) is still in full swing.
The deadline is 24th September 2018, 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST - so far there have been 5 entries - let's try to exceed 10.

Please do spread the word - there are still 2,5 days left for submitting a production

Hi everybody,

I have a question a bit stupid but that intrigues me: the first day of the contest until September 19, there were 34 entries.
From September 19th until the last day there were 38 entries. I summarize: 34 entries for the first 19 days and 38 entries for the last 3 days.
Why ? Is there a rational explanation? In fact, it's not very cool, it takes a lot of head for 3 days to the point of really saturate.

To those who answer (which can only be philosophical and not musical)

Cheers

Franz

From my point of view there can be several reasons:

1. There are probably some who have other projects in progress and who therefore can be overwhelmed to the point of posting only at the deadline.

2. There are those who want to make the best mix possible and therefore they take the most time to refine their work every day.

3. There are also those who have listened to the first mix posted and think that those there are much better.

4. Finally there is of course the syndrome of the one who postpones everything until tomorrow and who does the work at the last moment.

Personally I'm one of those who made their mix towards the end and I know it's not cool for the jury that gets overwhelmed overnight. Nevertheless it is part of the contest rules and we can not penalize that. Or we should set the same date where everyone sends his mix and that the jury take a week or two to evaluate but I think it will penalize some who may not be available on the day.

In any case I am really sorry but without telling my life I could not do otherwise

Hi CeZar,

Mixing is about taste and it is difficult to comment without confusing you too much, so please bear that in mind reading this. This only an opinion, a friendly interest in helping out and sharing what I know/hear.

1. Apparently you used autotune but imo you didn't enter the right key. Now the vocal is out of tune on some notes throughout the song.
2. Maybe you could have used some more automation to give contrast. Verse vs chorus for example. To me this mix sounds a bit flat and misses macro dynamics to liven it up.
3. Don't you think the toms are a bit loud and sound like they aren't part of the drum kit?

Those are my main points, I hope this helps.

My best,
FP
