thanks Dave for your feedback and statistics!
i like your mix. the solid drums and the guitarsound. the vocal sits really well with the guitars. just the bass for me is too upfront and makes it feel like the drums and guitars are following, and i feel the rythm-section could maybe more powerful working together, as one entity. great mix though!
2024-NOV-01 Info: Thank you everyone, for making MC100 a resounding success. Please show Songwriting Competition 087 the same love.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC049 November 2018 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
thx for the tip Jeff! i like the guitars in your mix, they sound good and go together well. the drums sound like they got a great vibe, though i feel something is retaining them somewhat. i'd love them to be a little more open, to fill the space somewhat more to reach the guitars. and there is quite some hissnoise, old tape-like. maybe a little too much, but this could be my sensitive headphones. cheers!

thanks for your feedback imax. i like the small-speaker sound of the guitars. the leadguitar seems to be clipping somewhere though. nice vocal as well. i think i would maybe like the drums to be a little more in the space of the vocals. they feel maybe a little detached in the background.iMax wrote: ↑Wed Nov 21, 2018 22:50 CETHi,
Thank you for the ability to lay my hands on this nice piece of recording!
I tried to keep the original vibe of the song, not using any drum samples or re-amping. I was struggling a bit though, to get it to sound clear but still with an analog feeling.
Anyhow, here is my attempt:
WAV
MP3
Drums: SSL E channel strip for general processing (compression, EQ)
Bass: MaxxBass and Airwindows' Drive
Guitars: only basic EQing and panning, Airwindows' ADT for delay processing
Vox: iZotope's De-clip, Scheps Omnichannel and a bit of Overloud EQ550, slight reverb
Mixbuss: SSL G buss compressor (used lightly), VEQ4 for the overall tonal balance and Airwindows' ToTape5
I also used Airwindow's Console5 for the summing throughout the busses.
Cheers!

Hello,
Great work everybody. There are three mixes that I could not download. Those mixes belong to maxoverdrive, loupi, and liquid. Please make your mixes downloadable without it requiring me to sign in or enter a password. There was one late entry. It's up to Mr. Fox to decide if he/she is in or out. Write to you soon.
Best regards,

Thanks for taking the time to provide feedback loupi. Yes, I noticed the guitar issue too after submitting the mix and fixed this in the meantime. I also think I matched the vocals and drums now better in terms of reverb, thanks for pointing that out.thanks for your feedback imax. i like the small-speaker sound of the guitars. the leadguitar seems to be clipping somewhere though. nice vocal as well. i think i would maybe like the drums to be a little more in the space of the vocals. they feel maybe a little detached in the background.
Your mix has a good overall balance, guitar and vocals are nice and upfront. The drums just sound a bit too "roomy" for me. I think turning that down slightly would improve the mix.

If you can't download the tracks (as client), then that's sadly a rule violation.
Jiankastereo submitted his entry after the game has ended. If you want to give him feedback, please do so. But technically, that's another rule violation.
And to answer Henrik's question:
Yes... that can (and should) result in a disqualification. It's been highlighted for months that you should document your edits, not only for learning purposes (for yourself for "total recall", for others to get an idea what you did to the mix). I think I'll be more strict with this with MC051/February 2019.Henrik Hjortnaes wrote: ↑Thu Nov 22, 2018 16:19 CETPlease clarify to me: mix submissions lacking documentation at deadline are disqualified?Mister Fox wrote: ↑Thu Nov 22, 2018 02:51 CETBut we have plenty of tracks that lack documentation.
Keep in mind, this can and will result in a disqualification.

The musicianship was top notch and the audio was immaculate. I hope yall enjoy it as much as I did.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC049 November 2018 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
Hello,
I apologize for the delay. First of all, thank you for the fantastic mixes. They were all outstanding, it took me a very long time to eliminate even half of them. In the end, I couldn't manage to bring the number down to ten, so twelve mixes go to the second round.
The selection process was hell. I am no expert to judge your engineering skills by any means, and I am aware that there were probably better mixes than the ones that I have chosen. Please keep in mind that my judgment is hugely subjective, and I tried to stick to my initial impression. Since I am exhausted, I will announce the names of the 2nd rounders now, but write my comments later.
So, in no particular order 2nd rounders are:
kevingobin
herbfelho
guizgui
yoruhitp
henrikhjortnaes
jerze
ellrozza
stilespod
daxtheanimal
olli-h
elad-naimi

Congratulations,
