Hello everybody!

This is my first Mixing contest. And so it took me longer than I expected. Though I still have about 30' left :hihi:
I found it a great opportunity to gain experience. And the song was a great deal of fun to play around with. Great song!

This was a fun track to mix, got it done just in the nick of time!

Mixed on PT 11 all in the box, I tried to get a really raw yet musical vibe that brings out the power of the song. Very little reverb, I wanted to maintain the punk rock feel. I used convolution on the guitars to give them more life, and a variety of tape saturation, and other saturation plugins on the individual tracks. There is saturation on the main buss, and some compression to glue the elements together. Getting the bass to sit with the other elements was the toughest thing for me on this mix, I ended up using paralell saturation and compression, and then some overall eq. If anyone wants to know more details, please feel free to ask any specific questions.

It is the 22nd February 2019, 11:45am GMT+1/CET - the first Mix Round has officially ended

A very warm welcome to all new participants. And once more a huge thank you to everyone that is spreading the word about the Mix Challenge. Please keep doing so, we need way more participants for the Songwriting Competition(s), and more audio content.

We have 71 submissions this month. That is 18 submissions more than last month and an incredible 47 entries more compared to last year at the same time. So we're starting off 2019 really strong. We have no submissions after the deadline.

Please check all if your links again, make them downloadable(!, updated rules on SoundCloud links). Those that uploaded MP3s only, please take note: providing a FLAC (on low bandwidth)/WAV (on DSL and higher) file is mandatory. Please also update your posts with documentation for others to learn from (see Rules & Guidelines).

I now open the field for everyone to give each other feedback (highly encouraged). This will be independent to the client feedback however.

Please watch this spot for the client feedback and Mix Round 2 participant announcement.

Good luck to all participants.

 The Songwriting Competition 18 (SWC18) is still in full swing.
The deadline is 24th February 2019, 11:59pm GMT+1/CET - so far there have been 7 entries - let's really try to exceed 10.

Please spread the word!

Thank you guys for the hard work !

And thank you for the gentle words about the production, the vibes and the song. Yes the solo could have been played for another song ! It even have been able to anihil (temporarly I hope) the libido of one of you. But the (crappy) bass, the solo, and the vocals (tracked with something like a 10€ mic) made the challenge !
71 contestants to review ? Holly cow ! Even if there is probably many many cool mixes, my ears will bleed, and I'll probably hate my song after that. BUT this time I have a magical tool ! A masterpiece of software that could help me to provide a feedback to every single mixer : Open Office Calc !!!(Excel makes me vomit...)
Yes it will be less "human", but earning a feedback is the fair and minimal compensation for all the contestants (that's my vision, even if it is not a rule of the contest). Hope that the tool I worked on will be enough easy to encourage more people to provide songs to mix. Because yes, Roland (M Fox) needs more and more material ! The song pool is almost dry !
So after this contest, I will provide that tool to Roland, and it maybe could be improved by anybody, an Excel's master for example.

Let's go !

You counted 71 mixes? Thank you David and Henrik. Will update everything ASAP (edit: updated!)

If you want to provide me the Excel/Calc sheet, maybe this can work for future challenges.

To download the files were a real P I T A.
PLEASE GUYS, EVEN IF YOU DON T WANT TO FOLLOW STRICTLY THE INSTRUCTIONS, PLEASE GIVE YOUR NAME TO THE FILES, NOT ONLY THE TITLE OF THE SONG. I KNOW IT PRETTY WELL ALREADY. AND PLEASE ONLY THE NAME OF YOUR MIX CHALLENGE ACCOUNT. DON’T HAVE A MINUTE TO WASTE TO CHECK WHO’S WHO !!!!! HORRIBLY PAINFULL.
