Mixed in Presonus Studio One 4 Professional

Mix Notes - my goal was to keep this song sounding as live and natural as possible. I used very little in the way of effects. I cut out some of the mic bleed from the guitar and vocal tracks to clean up the mix a bit but left it in the other tracks. It helped keep the mix sounding live.

Drums
Each drum channel treated independently using stock EQ and routed to parallel compression bus where I used Waves H-Comp to slam the routed drums. Also routed the drums to an effects bus with Toneboosters Reverb.

Bass
EQd channel with Bass Professor MK2 by Sonic Anomaly and compressed using Waves H-Comp.

Guitar
Stock EQ with HP filter and H-Comp on the channel, then routed to Toneboosters reverb bus and Waves Super Tap 2 slap delay bus.

Vocals (chorus)
Stock EQ with HP filter and Waves TG12345 on the channel for color and compression. Routed to slap delay, reverb, and parallel vocal compression (H-Comp).

Vocal (verse)
Stock EQ with HP Filter and Waves TG1234 on the channel for color and compression. Used a different stock reverb on the channel for the verses. Routed to slap delay and parallel vocal compression.

Keys
Stock EQ on the channel, routed to reverb effects bus.

Sax and Trumpets
Stock EQ and H-Comp on the channel. Routed to reverb effects bus and slap delay effects bus.

Mix Bus
Stock EQ, Waves SSL Compressor for glue compression, and Toneboosters Morphit EQ correction curve for mixing on headphones that simulates a flat frequency response.

Hi, i hope to don't break any rules, i'm new here.

I worked only with vst.

The track is very nice, most of the work i did was in the drums:

Kick: Phase flip/Eq/Gate
Snares: I apply a compressor to both the two channel, after that i grouped together and: Gate/Comp/Eq/Widening up a bit the stereo signal with an Imager
Hat: EQ/Imager
Toms: All grouped together EQ/Gate
Room:Comp/EQ/Sidechain Comp with Snare track
Overhead: EQ/Comp/Phase flip
Drums Bus: Comp/Subtle gate to expand dynamics downward/Subtle Saturation/EQ/Vst called Soothe to keep under control some resonances

Vocals: EQ/Melda Auto Volume/Comp

Bass: EQ/Comp/Saturation/Sidechain Comp with Kick

Keys: Eq/SubtleChorus/Comp/Sidechain Comp with vocals
Guitar: Comp/Sidechained with vocals

Horns bus: EQ/Comp/Sidechain Comp with Vocals/"Soothe" to keep under control some resonances

Aux: 3 Different Reverbs one for drums, one for vocals, one for horns.

Hello all, another fun one to mix.

My main thing with this mix was to keep the bounce feel while mixing this song. I spent more time on the keys and GT tones than I would of liked, but these are the sounds I ended up going with. I check for phase problems on drums did some track clean up along with automating instruments in the different sections and some editing on the vocal lines to tighten them up.

Hello everyone, newbie in forum and english hehe

I really enjoyed mixing this song, a style that I like a lot, but that is not widely available here ...

I tried to average between what was said in the file with general words about the music, the official mix and trends of my mixes.

In all the tracks I used SSL Duende Channel, in this song I used only his equalizer. All the tracks were equalized, I did not consider that the recording required great correction movements, so my eq was basically to increase a little the average region pro signal to get more consistent in the compressors.

Kick: Slate FG-116 GR -3 to -5dB

Snare top and Bottom: Empirical Labs Arousor GR -5 to -7dB

Toms: Waves Pie Compressor: GR -3db

Overhead: Slate FG-116 GR -1dB and Soundtoys Crystallizer (connected eventually)

Room: Waves CLA-76 Black all button

Bass: Slate FG-116 GR -5 to -7dB

Guitar: Waves Puigchild GR -7 to -10dB

Key: IK Multimedia Precision comp / limiter GR -3 to -6dB

Sax and trumpet: Waves CLA-3A GR -6 to -8dB

Trumpet Lead: Waves CLA-3A GR -5 to -10dB and Kush UBK-1 (light staining)

Vox Lead: Slate FG-116 Blue GR -7 to -14dB

Vox hamony and Double: CLA-2A GR -15 to -20dB

I had 4 reverbs (2 plates, 1 concert hall and a Hall) of the Lexicon PCM Native package, and a delay of the same package in Trumpet Lead.

I did a lot of automation on all the tracks.

Mix bus: SSL Duende Bus Compressor GR -1 to -3dB

WAV - https://www.dropbox.com/s/li8vt5dmoixmb ... 9.wav?dl=0
MP3 - https://www.dropbox.com/s/o9ea765gaxtmc ... 9.mp3?dl=0

Gain Staging:
All tracks required heavy gain reduction. -9 to -15 dB

Editing:
1. (3:10-3:16) Fill before the last chorus was missing the TOM close mics, so I cut samples from earlier in the track and addd them in. I felt the fill really sounded flat without them.
2. (3:12) Two Kick Drum transients clipped in the same fill. I replaced them with smaples from earlier in the track.
Screen Shots linked here ----> https://www.dropbox.com/sh/e4tgu255rfa8 ... 6P8va?dl=0

Mixing (stage 1):
Used my standard mix template, minus NLS across each track and on BUS
Has NY compression sends for each group (VQ4 into CLA-76) and has my fave VERB (Waits Room, VerbSuite), PLATE (Abbey Road), DELAY (Repeater) and CRUNCH (Kings Mics + Sausage Fattener) channels all ready to go.
Routing is roughly TRACK + NY to SUBMIX, SUBMIX + FX to 2BUS

VOX - sat really well with little treatment. CLA-2A on SUBMIX, VMB w/ SSL and NEVE eqs, plus FG-STRESS. VOCAL RIDER
Sends off track - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - PLATE, DELAY, VERB, CRUNCH and ESS VERB (de-esser in sidechain mode into Abbey Road Plates)
BVOX - Panned slightly right to oppose horns. Waves DOUBLER, SLATE MU comp for width, and H-EQ to further shape stereo image
Sends off tracks - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - PLATE, DELAY
DRUMS - Phase Alligned SNR tracks, sent to SNR-SUBMIX, Added bxSUBsynth to KIK (mostly rolled off later, but added depth), Bark of Dog and Logic EQ.
VMB w/ new GATE (killer!) on SNARE and TOMS. API EQ, FG STRESS.
Copied OH to new track, filpped phase and hard panned, then sent to OH-SUBMIX w/ Logic EQ, TG12345 for compression, width and EQ, SLATE MU for more width and to remove most of the CENTER info.
RM mic kept pretty low, but used, w. Logic EQ.
Sends off Tracks - NY on KIK, SNR, HAT, TOMS, OHS, VERB and CRUNCH on SNR-SUBMIX
Sends off SUBMIX - VERB
Logic Comp in Focus Rite Mode on SUBMIX
BASS - Logic EQ, bxSUBsynth (20% mix)
Sends off Tracks - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - VERB
GUIT - Logic EQ, Noveltech Character
Sends off Tracks - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - VERB
KEYS - Logic EQ, Noveltech Character
Sends off Tracks - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - VERB
HORNS - Logic EQ, Focusrirte Red Comp
Sends off Tracks - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - VERB
LEAD TPT - Logic EQ, Noveltech Character, Maag EQ4 on SUBMIX
Sends off Tracks - NY
Sends off SUBMIX - VERB, ESS VERB
2BUS - Maaq EQ4

Mixing (stage 2):
Created STEMS using my Joe Meek Stereo Compressor w/ M/S width control to position SUBMIXES in the stereo image and lightly compress some of them for character and punch.
(note, I created a STEM of Drums w/o KIK, then a mono KIK STEM and an additional solo SNR STEM for the final mix.)

Mixing (stage 3):
bxCONSOLE E series on all STEMS, except HORN stem (bx CONSOLE N series)
some compression and eq on all STEMS using CONSOLE plugins
Logic EQ on Drums
Logic Comp on Drums and Horns
CLA-76 on Keys
VMB - Gate, Stress, EQ and 76 pre on Snare Double
F6 on Drums to tame HAT and accentuate SNR
F6 on VOX to de-ess a few spots
bx-Room on 2BUS for a touch more verb
Black Box on 2BUS for a bit of tasty saturation.

MIX peaks at -3 in LOGIC and still has room for more spatial and tonal adjustments if it were to be mastered.

Thank you for the opportunity and thank you for listening. Mixing this was enjoyable and the song is well written and arranged nicely. Some fun mixing challenges hidden within, as well!

i split the guitar in different styles single note chords and melody

The Vox has also Waves Vocal centric on it but none of the fx

Drumbuss is CLA Mixdown

Masterbuss is also CLA Mixdown because i like to mix into it…

The Vertigo VC2 is the last compressor on the mix buss just for colour and the last few DB´s

WAV: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1nk5Fe ... 7J__s_9A-s

Notes:

Kick: SOC: some saturation , and gating -> Eq boosting at 8k & and 2.5khz and 100hz and compression around 6db. And SK10 to get fake subs
OH's: SOC - heavy saturation and hpf at 500hz , EQ cutting 3k and 350. Compression doing 5-6db GR at most with slow attack and fast release.
SNR: Saturation and boosting lows and highs and cutting 350-400hz. light compression
room: heavy saturation from soc. eq cutting mids at round 400hz. Slow compression fast attack 9db of GR
TOMS: cutting ultra lows, saturation. cutting 350hz and boosting 120hz & 700hz and gating. Compression with extra slow settings and fast release just a touch.
Hat: hpf and light compression
DRUMS buss - API-2500 around 2-3 db GR 1:5 ratio, fast attack and medium release with soft knee.
Slight reverb with abbey road curve and killing Early Reflections.

Bass: Saturation. 8K lowpass and hpf at 120. Boosting around 700hz and 90Hz. De-essing 4.5K and 280Hz. 5db of gain reduction with fastest attack and slowest release. Devil-Loc adding some distortion. Gate that's sidechained to kick(opens with kick hits) and blend that in just subtly

GTR: slight de-essing at 300hz and 1.8k. EQ boosting 1.5K. Light opto compression. ping pong tap delay and some reverb.

Keys: Saturation, HPF at 120hz. boosting highs and around 1.9K. light opto compression and Reverb.

trumpet and sax - Compres slightly light boost's at upper mids and lows and cutting around 1.5k. Reverb and saturation and again tap delays.
Brass bus - 1-2db compression

Vocals - Vocal rider, SSL-Channel various boost's and cut's (cutting bg and doubles where lead was boosted). De-Ess lead slightly and BG just kill sibilance, slight compression with Rvox, and CLA-76 pretty aggressive, devil-loc to add some distortion. on lead vocals also micropitch panned hard left and right.

All vocals goes to ALLVOX bus before master fader and instruments go to ALLMUSIC bus, and and Allmusic bus has EQuivotate that was Eq matched to vocals with -15%

Master bus - NLS with mike settings, and J37 tape
