Good Morning here is my submission for mix challenge mc057

Worked on live feel and overall balance. captured and enhanced the energy at the gtr solo which would naturally ramp up during a live performance. Mix bus processing simple 33609 light compression into a puigchild 670 for color then to a mixbus eq. then to sonnox limiter set at -0.74 and 47.5 for the inflator again used for color not for mastering as per the mix guidelines

Dirk thanks for the challenge this one has been fun to mix.Love the bass

Hello everyone,

This is my first post and mix submission here. Hope I respected all the rules of the challenge!

Here is my submission :

mp3: https://www.dropbox.com/s/kjx5f6ju3chb7 ... r.mp3?dl=0
wav: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dl2ne59tfbgd5 ... r.wav?dl=0

Mixed ITB in Studio One v.4. Used mostly Acustica Audio plugins (both Aqua and Nebula), Plugin Alliance and FabFilter. Little bit of automation.

This was a great song to mix, thanks for the oportunity.

Best regards,

Hello all, here is my take on this song. I haven’t mixed this style before so hopefully I’m not too off. Hard song to mix with almost everything being virtual instruments. I didn’t tune the vocals Though there are a few notes that needed touching up.

Mp3:https://www.dropbox.com/s/ewksheii1smh2 ... e.mp3?dl=0

Wav:https://www.dropbox.com/s/n3kdyq3qdb39k ... e.wav?dl=0

AS for processing
Drums-each track has some EQing, lite compression. Some of the tracks have saturation on them.
Then to drum buss-with some more EQ and compression.

Bass- some EQ, channel strip, rRbass and a dynamic EQ for controlling the bottom end

Gt-Little EQing. Omni Channel lite compression more EQing
GT solo Duplicate track add micro shift and echoboy to add some width.

Piano-Duplicate track add echoboy and a little tremlo add a little upper mids
Strings-Echoboy, tape plugin and a low fi plugin with compression

Verse Vocals-Radiator and lite eqing on track
Chorus Vocals Radiator and lite eqing on track
Vocal buss-

Verb Abby road chambers vocals and instruments.

2-buss lite eq limiter just to get some peaks I didn’t track down

If you have any questions and or any thoughts let me know.

Here are mine:
mp3: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqpB-RLndYJrjZgsU-y ... Q?e=g35La0
wav: https://1drv.ms/u/s!AqpB-RLndYJrjZgtRIM ... Q?e=LNce3O

For this one I have lots of work on the vocals. I attempted to fix the difference in eq across the parts to make them fit a little bit better together. I used a vocal add track, slap delay, longer tempo sync'ed delay, and the standard vocal thickening trick. The rest of the tracks have some eq work, most tracks have a compressor to pick up on any transient spikes along with another general compressor to even out the levels. The bass ducks some of the keys to prevent the low end from getting to muddy. The main vocal also duck eq in the mid from non-vocal tracks. There is quite a bit of reverb as well to try and create a more live style to the mix and I didn't roll off as much of the low end from the reverb as I normally would. The drums were tough as there isn't to much to work with but I did some eq and compression work in an attempt to make them a little bit bigger. The kick ducks the bass as well. Also there is saturation, both tube and tape on various tracks.

Appreciate any feedback.

Very nice material to mix!

The task is to make a ”mix that feels like it is being performed on a small stage, or even a jazz bar.
”. Further with ”warm sound with a solid and round low end”.

So I visioned in my head a set up:
- real drums without mics
- other instruments with their own amplifiers
- singer with her own voc amplifier
- full room of audience that dampens the reveberation

First I made a rough mix without any plugins. Then I started to work towards my visual target.

DRUMS
I started with drums, as they had space printed into them. As there’s no common PA-system in my visual plan, we get three dimensional sound naturally from the band. I’m in the middle and quite near the singer. (In the same spot as the opening screen of the video.) Drums are behind other instrument about 5 meters away from me. So drums should be mono. (As the drummers playing style has lots of nuances, no compressor to snare. It would kill the groove by bringin up ghost notes too much.)

BASS
While mixing I soloed bass and drums and tried to make them groove together naturally.
Bass was difficult. It probably had compressor printed into it. With some notes the sound didn’t die naturally but instead it grew louder after initial attack. I tried to fix those notes manually.

VOX
Vox sounded great without anything. I made just small adjustments to make it sound like it’s only one meter away from me, but in the same small room as drums. If one gives too much reverb to vox, it easily sounds as if band is doing a soundcheck in an unacousted empty gym hall. It would have been in contradiction with the intimate feeling of the video

PIANO, RHYTHM GTR, SYNTH AND ORGAN
Very little processing. Tried to situate them to 3 m distance from the listener around the singer.

Hi

New here. What a cool idea.

Here's my mix as requested. The guitar was pretty epic so was a bit challenging to fit the brief - Had to get a bit more a 70's live vibe to make it work.
