Hello Mr Fox and everybody!

Super 035, awesome production Octopus!

I just saw the 033 and 034 were excellent challenges too, and I was impressed by Mork's 033 mix and DonkeyTugger's 034 provider mix (and 035!).

Sorry if i can not always join the party, I'm in for this one.

Keep on the good work @Mix Challenge.

On my first try I put a lot of plugs and automation everywhere, spent days, ended cool but sounded too processed and the sound lacked purity.

I mixed it again and sticked to a "less is more" approach, and the benefits of having already worked on the mix saved me a lot of time.

So there are EQs, compressions, delays and reverbs on the tracks, going into busses with EQs and compressions and tape saturations. A bit of automation on the overheads, the rooms, the guitar sims feeds and outputs, the vocals. And it worked better to me.

Feel free to ask, that is the point here, good luck everybody for round 1, good luck octopuss too! :phones: :phones: :phones: :phones: :phones: :phones: :phones: :phones:

This one was a very nice mix to do. I tried to tune the vocals. I liked the synths part. Thank you!
I would like to recieve feedbacks on compression also if possible, tho. Is it too little?

Hey guys, this is my first time on the forum and mix challenge entry.
Had a lot of fun mixing this one, it was really well tracked and laid out. Thanks to OctopusOnFire for the opportunity.

Hey, OctopusOnFire - Great song! There were a lot of challenges, but I'm pretty happy with the results. I hope you are too! :hihi:

I used only the unprocessed tracks. For the guitars, I found a setting on Izotope Trash 2 that gave them the crunch I like. I also doubled them to get them a bit thicker. I copied the Bass DI and sent one through Bass Professor I and an Ampltube bass rig with a bit of distortion to help it cut through. Other than that, it was mostly EQ & compression. I recently got PSP's Vintage Warmer and used it on some of the buses. That thing will crush the heck out of things if you're not careful! I still need more practice...
Here's my entry - I hope you like it.

Hi,

here is my mix, trying to make it as punchy as possible. The challenge was the male/female vocals, pretty hard to merge in the mix.
Nice song, nice recording.

Thanks for the opportunity to OctopusOnFire and Mix Challenge.

Who ever exported this track including the reference I really appreciated the professionalism. I really enjoyed the gain staging. Big thanks. I have seen a lot other contests giving us a mastered track as a reference and telling us not to use master bus effect which contradicts a lot. :hail: :tu:
Thanks, but I must say it was half coincidental :D

Since many of the tracks were reworked and improved while submitting them, I thought about using the new set in a rough mix in order to simulate the situation that the contest tries to emulate in the first place.

And yeah, I'm with you on what you say. Actually there's been a lot of back and forth in this forum regarding the "master bus". I guess the line is kind of blurry and hard to set in a way everyone agrees 100%
