Hello everyone!
Excellent song very catchy and beautiful girl's voice!
the mix was done with Daw Pro Tools, I tried to set a nice stereo opening to the song but without exaggerating and to give an excellent depth of bass to make the song compact and impactful .. Drum kick and bass played very well together .. the guitars that have a fundamental role in the piece immediately found their space. the voice in the special ending of the song I thought it was interesting to try to give more prominence to the distorted vocal track that grows together with the song!
the song is really very interesting! great music!

Hi everyone!
Nice song to listen and mix. I really liked Paint Me In Colour and the reference band, Anteros.
I started grouping the instruments and cleaning up some tracks (a few -like the OH- had some clicks). Not a big deal.
I did a rough balance and started eqing and compressing when needed.
On drums, I used saturation both on the snare and the drum bus (in parallel). Cymbals were also dessed.
A room verb was added on snare and toms. Pushed the algorithmic reverb on overdubbed toms for the retro vibe.
I really liked the bass tone. I just added some saturation on the hi-mids for clarity and a touch of chorus for widening.
Some guitars received a short delay and reverb. Same with the keys. I pushed the distorted guitars at the end. A little widening on keys.
Vocals were compressed, eqed and dessed. Added saturation, 2 reverbs (short and long) a doubler and a distorted tape delay.
I finally did some automation on kick, cymbals, vocals and effects (mostly on reverbs and delays).
Then my notebook collapsed.
Mixed in the box using Ableton Live 10 Standard.
I hope you like it.

Hi all!

Thank you for the song, and the opportunity to mix it.
Here is my take:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1WzDwxI ... sp=sharing

Mixed in Ableton 10 Standard.
Mixing details:
I set up 3 different aux reverb tracks, mainly for the snare:
(A) H-reverb: a short gated reverb with lots of modulation, drive and high boost. This gives the whoosh effect in the verses.
(B) Same as (A), without the modulation and the drive. I use this on some snare hits where the modulation effect is not needed (end of the lines).
(C) Arturia REV Plate 140. 2,5s decay (1,5 for the last chorus), wide, +15dB high shelf @3,1kHz, 61ms predelay. Used in choruses on snare and swell to give a more dreamy atmosphere.
The swell track sounds like a nice string part with this reverb.

Plus 2 delay aux:
(D) EchoBoy slap for the vocals
(E) EchoBoy longer delay for effect (vocal mainly)

BASS:
original with 1176, LA2A, EQ dip @60 and @300
plus (with lower volume) amped with TSE BOD, Low cut, dip @540, 1176, L2 limiter, MicroShift for width above 800Hz.
both grouped and has more EQ to dip low mids, plus a multiband comp sidechained by the kick to duck below 130Hz

VOCAL:
lead: MV2, 1176, LA2A for dynamics, PuigTec, decapatitor, Deesser for tone, MicroShift for width, sent to slap and long delay here and there.
Also some volume automation.
distorsion: I created a new with DeviLoc. Strong deesing, slap delay. In the center, but put to the right when the low vocal comes in to the left.
low vocal: low cut, boost at 1,6kHz, 1176, LA3A
Harmonies: 1176, LA3A, EQ dip @2,7 not to fight with the lead vocal, panned half way wide
Ahhs: clip gained to even level, LA3A, mid and high boost, sent to (C) long reverb
BGV: 1176. low cut, high boost, panned wide, slap and long delay

GUITARS:
Hard panned when in pairs, chorus cab auto panned. Basically SSL E-Channel on all, high boost, low mid cut, HP-LP filters.

DRUMS:
kick: kick in-out put in phase, gated, transient boost for attack, 3 EQs and Waves Vitamin to get some low punch out of it. Plus high boost.
snare: bottom phase inverted, gated, 1176, boost @240, 3k, 8k. Reverb sends automated.
hihat and OH: low cut below 1kHz, high boost, dbx-160, and Little Plate on the track 70% wet to smooth it out.
toms: panned wide, EQ low cut and dip@600Hz.
room: crush phase inverted, all 3 grouped, 1176 all-in, filtered, mid dipped, IM Wider for more stereo

KEYS:
low cut on all, high boost on Rhodes. Lead key monoized, panned left, sent to long reverb.
Pad: for the bridge part I put it on a new track, compressed with MV2, distorted with DeviLoc.
For the 2. and 3. choruses I used IM Gatekeeper for the pumping effect.

No master bus process. Lot of automation for volume and aux sends.
Sorry if this was too detailed. :)

Keep safe everyone!
Br, Imre

Hi there,

as a newbie this is the first mix submission EVER for me (I just started mixing 2 months ago)! So first of all thanks to the band for the great production. It was really fun to work with.

Here´s my approach:

drums:

EQ on all tracks
compression on kick, snare, toms and dubs
additional parallel compression on kick and snare

I handled the overdubs with a slap delay to get some excitement in these parts

bass:
EQ low-mid cut, high mid boost
saturation
sidechain compression (triggered by kick)

guitars:
panned pairs
small room delay on lead cab and chrs cab
auto-panned funky cab
compression and saturation on bus

keys:
EQ´d everything to sit in the mix
stereo widening for pad
auto-panned swell and build (the transition from build to guitar from chorus 1 to verse 2 is my favourite part of the song)

lead vocals:
a lot of volume automation
slapback delay automation (less delay in calm parts)
crunch lv with a little widening to add some depth
soft LVs panned hard L/R

One of the challenges were the low pitched LVs. I automated and auto-panned them to get accents in the stereo panorama

background vocals:
just a soft panning and a quite much saturation

choir:
panned pairs hard L/R
EQ (heavy cut at 270hz), compression and saturation

On the master I only added a 1-band EQ to cut out some low mids and a little compression (less than 2dB) to glue everything together.

I mixed in Reaper with free plugins only (TDR Nova & Kotelnikov, Cockos ReaDelay & ReaComp, Softube Saturation Knob, Infected Mushroom Wider, Cableguys Pancake2)

Mc067 submission

Thank you guys for this track its was alot of fun to mix.

for my mix I used the klangfreud lufts plugin and a vu meter to bring all tracks to the -18 sweet spot. Then set a balance.
Next i loaded every track with fabfilter proQ3 high and low filters and a small reduction in the 300 to 500 range.
Finally Ii loaded every track with the slate vmr. adding the vcc channel, eq and some light compression if needed no more than 1 to 3db.

I used parralell compressionon the kick snare and toms, and bass. I duplicated the bass part twice more and added two separate amps one for thickness and one for high end.
Also duplicated the snare and change the eq on one called more top for high end. and second parralell compression on an 1176 blackie compressor

ld vocal has a paralell 1176 and the ah chorus another paralell. compressor and automation

snare and room mike have reverb
toms have there own reverb and paralell compression

All vocals have a plate a digital delay and a slap

guitars and basses are dry
some gtrs have pan automation

Master Bus
slate vmr with the bomber for 3d sound
slate red compressor for glue
slate virtual tape machine
sonible smart eq
sonarworx reference (mixing with headphones)
slate fg-x used for peak control and transiant desiner. using the limiter only at 2db and the transient functions.

Master bus post fader turned down so the peak doesn't go above -14 dbfs

Good luck!
