I think...your pitch of the song is incorrect. Compare with the original preview. Samplerate problems?

That was done intentionally. I changed the key of the song. I saw nothing in the rules stating I could not do so. The original sounds were not changed only raised. My impression is that the vocal would sound better in a higher key.Coiled_Ear wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2017 08:07 CESTI think...your pitch of the song is incorrect. Compare with the original preview. The forum administrator may correct me if I am in error and did not read the rules correctly and I will gladly remove my submission.

Nothing in the rules say you can´t put distortion on the vocals but that doesn´t mean you should!.martman22 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 10, 2017 14:49 CESTThat was done intentionally. I think that if everyone took that many liberties with their submissions it would be impossible to compare them, but it´s not my call, just my opinion.

The material is provided "as is", and you should treat it "as is". It is also mentioned that you should not(!) change the arrangement/song structure. So if the client submits his production in the Key of Fm, you can't just pitch everything up to (for example) Am because you think it would sound better this way (micro pitching one drum kit piece is a different story, but not a full song!). This would count to altering the production / remixing it. The songwriter/client is proud of his creation, he/she (and all possible involved collaborators) wrote this arrangement in this specific tone. So he/she expects it to be treated like that - "as is".
I thought this is common sense. Else, there would have been an add-on rule that clearly states: "material needs to be pitch corrected". *sigh* Do I really need to add another rule to the "Rules and Guidelines" to make even minute details absolutely clear?
Actually the Rules and Guidelines clearly state the following (important parts in red):
Mister Fox wrote: ↑Fri Mar 31, 2017 20:27 CESTRule set for mix participants
- ...
- The participants are limited to the provided source material
- the provided arrangement must remain the same (take note of a given audio demo). Unless otherwise stated, do not add an additional beat or instruments (e.g. replay a guitar), move parts around and therefore change the arrangement. Unless otherwise stated (i.e. radio mix, loops being allowed for reordering, creative audio effects like glitching, etc)
- it is allowed to edit and to a certain extend even mangle the source material to improve the production (e.g. pitch correction, timing/phase correction within given boundaries, re-amping of bass/guitars if DI track were present, vocal comping, noise gating/strip silence, etc), as long as this does not result in drastic sound design and a complete new sound (e.g. morphing one sound into another one - example: flute into trumpet) - unless otherwise stated
- ...
- SPECIAL RULES MAY APPLY PER CHALLENGE, these will be highlighted and mentioned separately directly under the "Words by the Song Provider" paragraph of the current mix challenge thread
(I need to update the "book" anyway - but I never though I need to add something on that behalf - just "because it's not part of the rules, ...")
I'll consult with the client.
But from my point of view, your submission missed the mark.

Regarding the pitch shifting:
Now I am really not vain about my vocal abilities, I am not a singer, but the pitched version isn't me anymore, it feels creepy to me, so please leave it in the original key. Thanks!

Here are mine, I really enjoyed the song, thanks for letting us take a shot at mixing it. I spent most of the time trying to eq the parts to fit well with each other and quite a bit of time widening out the track. I did my best to tune the background vocals where they were off pitch. I have no idea how to get rid of the bleed on the backing vocal tracks but I don't think it causes to much of an issue in the mix where I think it's low enough that it can't be heard. I used a plate reverb for the vocals and a room reverb for the band which is what I normally do. For widening the track I hard panned some of the parts and then did a sent to an effects bus with a short delay around 30ms or so that was hard panned to the opposite side with some small eq and level changes. I think on one or two of those I may have also reversed the phase. There are some other delays on guitar parts as well. I think I had the most fun with the guitar chorus part and I really like the sound I ended up with on that. In one or two spots I adjusted the shaker timing where it gets slightly off. Beyond the standard compression tricks there is some automation during a few of the transitions to try and bring out some additional emotion.
I appreciate anyone's feedback on the mix.
