Some of us are old and unlucky enough to remember this stuff the first time round.
Anyways, fighting through the painful memories, I think I've actually managed to to get the germ of something going. Sort of a cross between Simple Minds and the Human League
. Also forced myself to play that horrible (in the hands of anyone apart from Nile Rodgers) 80s chorused strat style guitar - cheeeeeeseeeey! In keeping with the period I think it will be about the evil of Thatcher, and be called, 'The Lady''.
..quite enjoying it all really..

This SWC's got me excited! I, too, am sticking with period "correctness", so lot's of Juno, DX7, Linn and Simmons (well, virtually of course:)
My 80's listening consisted mostly of skate punk, rock n roll and metal. It wasn't until much later that I began to really appreciate the diversity of 80's music across the spectrum.

Please post your WIPs in this thread:
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=126
I quote the
Rules and Guidelines again
Rules for participants of the Songwriting Challenge wrote:
- Minor edits to your submission are allowed, but this is not a WIP forum. Your entry is final!
We do have these rule sets for a reason. Please, re-educate yourself again.

Hey guys! I'm so excited to join this round. Even if I wouldn't have much time to finish my submission properly, I can't just stay away.
And I think I knew some stuff that may help:
The concept of synthwave/synthpop are well expained in this video. On this channel you can find more of those videos explaining the composition, arrangement, lirycs and workflow principles of that era. It is all based on real hardware and live performance, but most of those techniques are replicable in the DAW with plugins.
And for those of you who may try to make SynthRock/Crossover. In this video the famous and supercool record "Jump" by Van Halen have been deconstructed.
Good luck people!

I can recommend Rick Beato's channel in general. Nice additions - I'll update the "Audio Demos" post ASAP.
Although, please try to aim more towards actual Synth-Pop/Rock rather than "classic rock" with added synths. :

Hehe, I hate big reverbs, and I uusally treat sinthesisers with amused contempt, so this was naturally the contest for me then..
Probably a bit over the top on the tugger bombast for the theme, but I had great fun doing it (especially the little Pet Shop Boys homage bits..)

Stuff;
Synthmaster One (I won in one of these ere competitions..)
Modo Bass (as above!)
GeForce Minimonsta x 2
NI Retro Machines
NI 80s Drums
Addictive Drums Reel Machines
Line 6 Variax guitar in horrific middle position strat mode (I truly hate strats...Tele's forever!)
Gear4Music 12 string acoustic (this is the first and last time I will ever use chorus on an acoustic guitar)
The crooning..

Hello, I apologize for asking this, but there is simply too much information in too many places:
Is there a time limit for the entries? Or could my track/mp3-file be 10 minutes, if I wanted to?
Cheers,
A Future in Noise

Your entry can be as long as you want, but be reasonable with the duration. Should be minimum 1:30 mins I believe. Preferably submit a WAV file instead of MP3.

Pretty much all of the important stuff in in the "rules and guidelines" and starting posts for each month, although there is a lot there.
Production shall ideally not exceed 10 minutes. A good practice is to try to shoot between 3 and 6 minutes of run time (unless otherwise stated)
Do not create productions shorter than 1:30 minutes (think TV openings/endings), see previous point for ideal length of production (unless otherwise stated)

Thanks for answering, Leonard Bowman and the Exponent. I didn't know that .wav is allowed.
