Ciao!
Here’s my take, 100% in the box (Logic).
I haven’t done anything special in any channel: my main aim was to give every instrument its place, in order to not hide anything the artist decided to record. Specially in the busiest sections, with three acoustic and two electrics guitars, main and background vocals, lots of percussion, keys etc it wasn’t obvious to figure out a way that made everything sit correctly.
The other challenge was to clean most of the tracks from the “boxy” frequencies they had, trying to make everything a little bit cleaner.
Also i tried to keep the alive feel that the recording has, without over-reverbering the thing.
The vocals have no autotune.
More or less every track has got the same component and routing:
Graphic EQ
(Limiter in those tracks with unwanted high peaks)
EQ/Dynamic Channel strip to color (SSL like for drums, Neve like for all the others)
Compression side chain in 2 tracks
Fx/Sends
Then they go to their groups (drums, percussions, guitars etc) where there is an eq into comp and finally to the master bus, with anything in it.
The plugins used are free products from Analog Obsession, Voxengo, Acustica Audio and the Logic stuff.
Mixed in a Macbook with consumer headphones fed by the built in jack and nothing else.
