So this is where I would normally be "done" with my initial mix and send it to the artist for feedback  Guess I'll let I marinate on the hard-drive a couple of days and then give myself feedback
Old-school mixer that started out in -95 on tape-machines and analog desks. Today mostly in-the-box. Big UAD fanboy

Cool! Just stumbled across this forum yesterday. Seems like a fun challenge. Looking forward to it. Already loaded up in my DAW.

:arrow_right: As announced in the Newsletter for CW40, there is now a Rule Book Addendum for the Mix(ing) Challenge:

Mix Challenge - Addendum: Non-permitted tool usage

This thread covers the recurring topic of "drum editing" in more minute detail, mentioning which tools are "off limits" and which might be suitable alternatives. There will be an expansion about the topic of time alignment (most notably: guitars, vocal takes) and pitch correction (most notably: vocals). For the time being, this subject is still covered extensively in both the Rule Book (long form) and it's FAQ section.

I had hoped to have the thread ready by the start of MC100 - apologies for the waiting time.

Thank you for reading. :educate:

hello
Nice work, for me it’s a bit to clean and it could use more separation between the parts, verse, chorus etc. and overall more aggression also in the vocals
Nice work

Nice job @borisson ! That snare is a tough one. in my rough mix. It was cool reading about your process.

Hello there!
Here is my first participation to the MIX CHALLENGE : https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sYuDQz ... sp=sharing

KICK : dynamic EQ to get attack both in the highs and lows from the kick, saturation to make it cut through the dense guitar mix
SNARE : transient designer and saturation to tame the extreme transients, a little pitch shifting for extra body
DRUMS : I add a valhalla room for extra stereo ambiance and compressed the drum buss with neve 609 style
BASS : amp sim and EQ to get some grit, low band compression for steady subs

GUITAR : panning and volume automation, drastic saturation from Klanghelm MJUC running in parallel (compression not engaged) on the guitar buss and touch of spring reverb and echo
VOCALS : Warm tape saturation, cutting out some presence, light buss compression
SYNTH : as it is

MIXBUS : just a touch of parallel compression

can't wait to hear your versions :hyper:

Here it is. MC100__SilverStoned__MrRockNRoll__amtown

I didn't realize this until I was done but, aside from an SSL comp on the drum bus and a sat plugin on the lead vox and drums, I used all stock S1 Pro plugins on the tracks and fx. No fancy processing, S1 compressor emulations (LA-2A, 1176)

Mix bus:
Mixtool to bring down the level
bx_masterdesk (I like the resonance filters)

Mix Bus Hardware:
WARM BUS-COMP
Neve 1073DPX for some eq

My room seems to start rolling off at around 70-80 Hz so I typically do a "truck test" but I skipped it this time. Hope the low end isn't too crazy. Fun project, thanks!

Hi @amtown

Welcome to the community. I think you might want to read the rule book thoroughly, especially the ''TL;DR Rules'' file that was provided with the tracks so you don't get disqualified. Lets hope Mr. Fox have mercy :whiteflag: with you since it's your first time participating

Good luck in the competition.

@sthauge
Thanks! I thought I did but I will take a closer look. There seems to be a lot to read! I'm not surprised I missed something.
Updated... I think I did it right but if not, I will catch the next one. Thanks again for the heads up!

General warning: no re-uploads, as this will result in instant disqualification.

Both Google Drive and Dropbox have a feature to remedy that situation however, without re-uploading and therefore changing the link. (hint)

This is as much mercy as I will give. By participating, you agree to the given rules and guidlines, also see post #003.
