:arrow_right: A friendly reminder:
Including today, 14 days left to submit your production.

So far, we have 02 entries, with sadly no further community interaction..

If you want to access the extended game mechanics of the Songwriting Competition (asking for feedback during production), please try to release your first edits within the next 7 days to have enough time to get possible feedback (if needed/wanted) and continue to work on your song.

To those sitting on the fence - please don't feel scared off and think "the bar is set too high, I will never make it" - set yourself a shorter private deadline. Just make music, submit your entry, join the conversation. See where this goes.

By joining, you're already a winner. The rest is bonus. :tu:

With exactly 10 days to do i wish to release how I did the sounds for my entry, since some of you might think i didn't use the provided samples at all. So here's my walk through with the sounds... hopefully it gives you further ideas :)

Hello everybody,
It's been a long time since I participated here to a competition but now I was challenged to see what I can do with those samples for sound design and composition. So far I am quite happy with it and with the things I discovered and learned working with these limited samples.

Instruments used:
IRIS2
Synthmaster3
Kontakt
Kong
Redrum
ReaSamplOmatic5000
Momentum

Some of the FX used for sound design:

Thank you very much for this video. It is inspiring to see how other people work. Personally I was and am struggling to get good sounds for what I had in mind for my entry this month. I am still working on it, I don't have much time during the day so hopefully I will be able to participate this month.

Dear challenge partners and Mister Fox.

Here we are again, juggling with the samples provided. Personally, I find that this is one of the months where the challenge is more difficult. Normally I use presets to inspire me and from there I make my compositions. But of course, this month is the other way around, I try to compose something and then find the sounds that fit it well.
I'll tell you what I did this month. From the samples of Shane_Newille BeingFollowerBreak_sn_160bpm_24_48k.wav and Mister_Fox Studio-Bass-5str-Picked-Customized.wav I created the drum rhythms and the bass rhythm. I put these samples in the Reason Mimic sample and used the slice mode. Then I created some random sequences with Reason Quad Note Generator.
The pads are based on Mister_Fox C64-Station64-SPACE.wav, which I stretched in time with Xenakios PaulXStretch. The Piano is Mister_Fox K2000-Piano.wav and the bells 00 WAV tones - generated white_-6dBFS_3s.wav.
The ambient effects I used Koekepan's samples stretched with IrcamLab TS2
The others (Kiks and Crash) are almost unmodified.
The melody and arpeggios are based on the free MIDIs from Ghosthack AC2024 Day 04 MIDI Kits (Pop 1 Fmaj).

Well, I hope you like it or at least give me ideas to improve it or highlight what you would have done differently.

Thank you colleagues.

I will try to provide some feedback tomorrow (Monday evening), since that has been cut a bit short this month. :educate:

For the time being - please make sure that your entry is accessible, and that you make clear which entry is your final version (either edit the original post, where you also posted your documentation, or your last entry).

I bring this up, because @i-dont-like-mixing's entry is once more not accessible (the user had this issue with the last two Mix Challenges as well). I also sent a PM, which wasn't read yet. I got a copy of the entry - but if it's not accessible for everyone throughout the whole time span of our game (including the announcement of the top spots)... then you sadly forfeit your chance to be heard. And I really don't understand why this keeps happening. (is this a timed access thing or something?)

Here is my WIP for this month SWC. The synth sounds are created using bits of the samples in Vital with lots of reverb, delay and modulation effects. Other sounds are chopped up samples. I was acualy writing a totally different song but I didn’t like it so I started again and I took the time to create some more workable sounds in Vital. I am not fully happy with all the sounds yet. Also struggling with the transition to the dance part.

Jeroen

Wow, how did you manage to get these sounds out of the samples? Sounds amazing. What software did you use?
