-- Mr Rock and Roll --
-16.9 lufs-I
-4.1 peak
All ITB
filtering
Rcomp for depth, timing based functional comp, Hold the drums bass and BGV back, Git and Lvocals forward
Api 550b and 560 main workhorse eqs
Bass -
Eq, tube amp (Ignite TPA), Tried parallel chorus (UA Dimension D), didn't work - too mushy! and parallel dirty saturation (Softamp PSA sansamp clone and LifeLine dirt module)
Sidechained (not ducked!) by kick so play together
Drums -
Thump, thwack and rattle was the plan
Flipped overhead / room / tom panning
Kick, try to decide between sub and bass freq - end up choosing both with dynamic eq dipping inbetween
Snare - Give it some heft / smack at the fundamental, dynamic dip out a lot of hihat/cymbal (2k+), try and get that from overs.
Overs - EQ31 (31 band graphic) to damp nasty sounding open hats, Maag clone for air
Toms - sidechained (Again, not ducked out of existence!) by snare, mainly for verse 2 part
Smash Room with Focusrite Red 3 comp.
Drums Fx tracks = Early Reflections (Waves Trueverb)
Shortish Plate for Snare and Toms
Extend the overheads and hi=passed snare / Cymbals with Ik room reverb
Ringmod on bd, sd and toms to strengthen tone / fake resonance
ALL Drums Parallel track = NI Vari-Comp for pump emphasis
Guitars -
Started with full L / R pan scheme but ended up bringing Git 3 in a bit, centerish for the solo with width automation in lead-up
Re-amped Clean tracks 1 and 4 (after verse 1) for more heaviness.
Varied eq emphasis between 500 - 2500 for try and get them all working together
Git extras = Git 2 8tn note tremolo
Bridge Lead - ADT clone
Solos and supplied FX track - automated width processing with Ozone imager - Solo lead lead-in comes from outside to middle then back out halfway for feedback, does it work?
Guitar FX tracks = Early reflections (Nasty DLA 1/8 and 1/8d Opposite panned)
Rotary verb - UA Pure plate run into Waterfall rotary (Not on leads)
Small Chamber style reverb (IR-L bricasti Impulse)
Pitchy slow tape delay on Supplied FX track
Slap Delay / verb on solos (UA Hitsville)
ALL Git Parallel = 1/4 note Delayed
Bx Greenscream and Sampleson Overheat for dirrtyness
Eq some low end out and hi mid in
Smooshed with LA-3A (7ish GR)
Bx Subsynth to re-add low in a controlled way
Synth -
Pulteq MeQ and EQP1-A to give some shape and take off most of the harshness at the top
FX track - Same sirenish rise-fall tape delay as used on supp git fx
Lead Vocals - Tried some compression (1176 etc) but was bringing out presence in a harsh way I didn't like so sacked it.
Clipper to catch some spikes, Pulsar W495 For EQ, RDeEsser and dynamic dip at around 1.2k
LV FX Tracks = Smoosh dirt track - Bx Yellowdrive distortion and JS:Avocado Ducking Glitch Generator (Reaper stock plugin) to add more messiness
1/4D slap / delay
Room sim reverb (UA Hitsville)
ALL LV Parallel - Mono-ed up into Fairchild 660 for tone unification
BGV -
Sounded Shouty, so went with that and tried to keep it wide
Clipper to de-peak extremes
BGV FX Tracks = Chamber style verb (IK sunset sound)
IR-L with echoey Stairwell impulse
Dub-style 8th note tape delay
Busses -
Sonic Anomaly QuadraCom On Drum and Guitar Busses Multiband comp / eq / transient tweaking
Tape sim (Waves Kramer) on all busses separately for glue
ALL Bus parallel - Saturation with Black Box HG-2 focussing on hi mid and air
Mixbus - Shadow Hills Class A in mid-side configuration and IK 440B Tape for final compression / glue pass
Some volume automation for sections, notably drums in bridge / solo leadup (Maybe overcooked), very slight timing adjustment on the bass for that fist hit on verse 1.
