Hello ppl
Here’s my version
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1YHl8H8 ... sp=sharing
Returning from some time out of the challenges, to gladly entering the opportunity to mix this very nice song.
In this mix, my approuch was to work fast, contrary what I was used to do. And the song is too well produced that this was not a hard task.
So, this is what I made:
Drums:
I grouped the two kicks and compressed them moderately with Acustica Audio Gray (approx. 2db of gain reduction); then, I gave a 4db boost in the 60hz region to improve the punch;
I also grouped the two snares and compressed them with the Neold U17 (3db GR);
On the other elements, just equalization for cleaning;
On the drum bus, I used Spiff to bring a bit more bite to the transients and Soothe to control the super highs; then, I inserted the PSP VintageWarmer 2, using the Ceiling function to hold the most prominent peaks and bring a tail.
Bass:
Bus processing; Kirchhoff EQ cleaning 3db at 90hz; Vertigo VSM3 to generate harmonics with saturation; LFOtool for a little ducking;
Keys and synths:
Mostly change was on the piano, where I tried to bring more presence to the mid-highs with equalization; I used Eventide Physion to add a bit of reverb to the tonal part and improve the transients with some slow attack compression; I saturated it with Soundtoys Radiator; I brought a bit more spatiality with Eventide H949 Dual (preset 01-Vocal Sweetener); I held the 600hz region a bit with Soothe and compressed it with Klanghelm MJUCjr.
For the other elements, I’ve only equalized some of them for some cleaning and made some gain changes for better blending;
No changes on the GTRs and Noise Sweeps
Vocals:
On the vox verse and vox chorus, series compression with UAD LA-2A Silver and Acustica CreamComp; some different parameters, depending on the material;
On the BV vox, group processing with Eventide H910 Dual (preset Sweet Chorus) for greater spatiality; then, Eventide Quadravox to simulate two other voices and fatten the BVs;
Bus processing: Audiothing Type A for brightness in the highs; equalization with PSP E27, smoothing a little at 2.5khz and 14khz.
Three reverb channels and two delay channels were used in the ambience:
ROOM: Eventide T-verb (SL Kick Drum Bus preset): control of the treble with the T-Racks EQ-81; received all the buses;
PLATE: Acon Digital Verbarate 2 (preset vivid plate 140) very nice tone; eq to clean the low end; received Drum, Synth and Vocal Buses;
Reverb for vocals: Eventide SP2016 (Stereo Room V preset - initial); in addition to the vocals, I also sent the Synth bus;
DLY: Lexicon PSP42 (Fresh Tape preset); received Piano, Verse Voice and Chorus Voice
DLY2: UAD Cooper Time Cube (Long Echo preset); received the Piano, the Vocal Bus and the Vox Echo.
In the Master Bus I inserted PSP VintaWarmer2 to control ganho and peaks, as well as obtaining a little harmonic saturation; then, some compression with the TDR Kotelnikov GE for better cohesion of the elements.
I apologize for the lazy description of the mix, but I ended up leaving it to the last minute. Later I will post a more detailed description of the moves I made.
Thanks for once more an enjoyable opportunity to mix a great song. You guys please ask anything about this mix if you want. Good luck to everyone!
