You might wanna check the tags on that .wav file chief.Jarouse wrote: ↑Sun Apr 15, 2018 23:35 CESTHi,
I'm happy to join this contest!
Long to explain what I used, but basically it was parallel compressors, different sizes of reverberations. Nothing on the master bus.

Oh Boy, This Song is just a treat to mix. I will be all over it when the deadline date is close. What an elegant production. Big thanks for the provider.

Hi
It is really great song and it was pure pleasure to mix it
Couple words about mix:
-I reamped DI guitars and panned them hard with "stock" guitars to get nice stereo effect
-on every feedback guitar tracks I insert subtle tremolo effect with changed phase offset to get moving in stereo field effect
-I used long (and compressed) plate reverb on brasses to get them big enough
-standard (for me) parallel compression on drums with 1176 on the individual tracks (if needed)
-sub bass plugin on kick to get nice low end
This are links to my submission:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/aab11mja3u70i ... i.mp3?dl=0
https://www.dropbox.com/s/cvrhb32dmz7qz ... i.wav?dl=0
Any opinions are comments are highly recommended I'm still at very beginning of my mixing engineer carrier.

Very nice song and performance!
Mix bus: I'm experimenting with different ways to route stuff to the mix bus. On this one, I'm routing everything through the 2-bus track, then sending it to 2 tracks with 2 different compressors (MIX 1 and MIX2) AND to the MIX BUS, where the clean signal of the 2-bus blends with the more compressed MIX1 and MIX2.
On top of that, some aux tracks containing different effects that go directly to the MIX BUS. In this case, an Aphex exciter, a DBX160 compressing vocals and kick+snare and a "rear bus" with a 1176 compressing everything but drums and bass.
Reamped the guitars and bass, added some distortion for the voice in the break,.... ask away if you want more details.

I love the song and the performance! Nothing too fancy with the mix - plugin wise. I wanted to give the intro a feeling of rising above the smoldering ashes. A ping-pong delay on the Intro Arp Guitar was about the extent of going large on FX.
I was having fun experimenting with the TB Equalizer v4 (ToneBoosters). I used it on the Sub Master Bus, Vocals Bus, BV Vocals Bus, and Snare Bus. I'm really liking it - it has a lot of potential. I used it more like a multi-band comp on the Sub Master Bus and for shaping with the rest of the instances. Other than that it was mostly automation to clean up the vocals (Lead & BV), and add extra reverb to the Lead Vox for the choruses.
I used automation on the Sub Master Bus to add dynamic change & increase width for the Choruses. The rest was basic EQ & compression.
I hope you like my interpretation of this song.

Good song, great performance, pleasure to mix.
I targeted my mix somewhere between CCR, Eagles and Jeff Buckley. Still I wanted it to sound wide and modern. So I guess I tried to make it modern retro.
First I made a very quick rough mix.
THen I gave to drums and bass the role I wanted them to have. In this phase i listened quite much CCR.
After that I started to process the vox. In soft parts I wanted to be close, and in choruses more distant.
Finally I finalized guitars and horns. I wanted them to be wide, loud and clear, but not competiing with vox, only supporting it. I this phase I refreshed my ears quite often with Jeff Buckley, or with Eagles.
By accident Integrated loudness ended up to be exactly -18 LUFS. So no mastering done. Actually it would be nice if there were a rule that the integrated loudness of submitted competition mix should be exactly something, for example -20 LUFS. It wouldn’t affect the mixing process at all, but it would eliminate the strong temptation to make it a bit louder just for sure.
