You can use the 5 samples I provided for whatever you'd like, including commercial content- I've licensed them as CC0 which means you don't even need to credit me.

in other news, I've started a track for this challenge but my attention has been diverted to a different project recently. Not certain i'll create a full track by the deadline but I will try.
It is not a question of need but of duty. I am very attached to the rights of creatives.

That said, I have few days left (I had a lot of work), but I do my best to deliver a title quickly.

We're in the last 2 days timeframe of submitting your production.

So far, nobody has submitted anything, and I'm starting to get a little bit worried. But just a little bit.
Please do check in with the Global Countdown page. And please also keep in mind, that the server provider does regularly scheduled maintenance updates around midnight (GMT+1/CET) around midnight. So please do not submit at the very last minute.

Looking forward to listen to your entry. :phones:

This was the first time I heard a word ”Community Scramble”.
I had no idea what was it all about, so I couldn’t send any samples.

Then game the Source Sound Package… Should I do music with only those samples? No way, I’ll wait for next month’s competition! But ok, even though I’m an old dog, I’m still willing to learn some new tricks. Maybe I’ll at least check some of the provided design examples by Youtubers. Especially that radiator example opened my mind: one could make Lanois/Eno-style music with radiators. Wow! Let’s start exploring…

Now afterwards I can say, that I’ve learned from this one song writing competiton more than from the most of the mixing competitions in the web together. In this case I wasn’t thinking so much as instruments and what they should sound, but more as ”roles”. Does these three samples together play the role of snare? Etc.

As the new concept for making music was quite a big cpu-load for my brains, I decided that at least musically I stick to more familiar retro stuff. My song ended up to be mixture of relaxed styles of Booker T Mg’s and J.J. Cale.

So, as an old fart I do have to admit that I in the end I was more thrilled of those ”somewhat realistic instrument sounds” I manged to make than of those ”experimental dementia sounds”. But maybe in the next scramble competition I’ll try to make ”lovely” music with the ”annoying” sounds of my oil boiler that makes quite a big noise in our house.

PROCESS
Midi parts are hand edited or played first with guitar and then converted to midi. Lots of editing to mimic real playing.
No oscilators used. I picked small parts from provided files, and started to experiment with them.
I played those edited samples with Reapers ReaSamplomatic5000. It was quite versatile tool. Soon I found what I needed to do to attend my first ”Community Scramble”.

===============

INSTRUMENTS

”BASS”
1. sin_440hz > ReaSamplomatic: only attack > distortion
2. sin_440hz > ReaSamplomatic: only tail
Both summed through bx_bassdude amp

”KICK”
1. Stomp
2. sin_440hz > ReaSamplomatic: only attack, dialed to low D > distortion > EQ low pass

”SNARE”
1. Stomp > ReaSamplomatic: only attack > hi-pass
2. Smash Printer > ReaSamplomatic > low pass
3. white noise > ReaSamplomatic: only attack > EQ hi-pass

”HAMMOND”
Kurzweil 2000 > ReaSamplomatic: attack emphasized > hi-pass > bx_bassdude > Leslie rotator

”GTR”
sin_440hz > ReaSamplomatic: attack emphasized > Ace amp (I tried many amp -pluginss, but in the end I chose this simple free amp plugin)

”SHAKER/HI-HAT”
1. noisy rattle > speed up > ReaSamplomatic: only tail > eq
2. white noise > ReaSamplomatic: only attack > EQ hi-pass

”PERCUSSION”
Burn Barrel > ReaSamplomatic > Automated ReaPitch > Tremolo
Finger Cymbals > ReaSamplomatic > low pass

EFFECTS
- Swoosh
- Wet Sponge
- Coil Whine
- CN train
Pitch Shifting, Delays, Tremolos, plates, automations

Hi

This limited sound set challenge was another thing I haven't done before.
Unfortunately, I couldn't spend as much time on sound design as I planned before.
I encountered countless difficulties in this unknown terrain, but by the end, something had just come up.
Fortunately, there was no need to sing and the lyrics were also given - Thanks Leonard for the good poem.

Headphone mix.

Hi,
Here is my track.
I used to treat the samples, RX7 denoiser, GrooveAgent, Melodyne, Padshop 2, Kontakt and the GuitarRing.
I didn’t use all the samples.
I’ll send a video explaining how i did those sounds from samples.
Musically,
Steeve

Wow, this was a challenge along my taste...;-)
Unfortunately I heard a bit too late about the collecting sounds phase...
Anyway, I listened to the sounds, and out of my own history it was clear, I am going to use a single sample and of course it was the poem.
Actually I used two more out of that set, but as impuls responses. All the reverb is made with a mix of Burn Barrel and Noisy Rattle as IR...

It was a welcome invitation to explore some of the VSTs of my weirdo collection of plug-ins. Namely:
Sonivox Vocalizer Pro
Unfiltered Audio SpecOps
Auburn Sounds Graillon 2 (free version)
Izotope Trash 2
Acon Digital Convolve
Bitwigs Sampler, Grid and Vocoder

In addition, I used a standalone program called Mammut, which does some strange spectral mangling.

Recorded with Bitwig, mastered in Acon Digital Acoustica

And here is my strange submission:

I called this peace "...if we have sinned" for obvious reasons

so for this entry i resampled some of these samples first to small pieces or waveforms i should say.then i used another sampler to shape the sounds and create instruments. Some instruments are made of layered sounds some of them not.the vocals are somehow mixed in terms on
words order from Leonard Bowman's sample. i did not intended to make a message with them but rather to sound a bit interesting. i tried to make a house tune from those samples, so will see how it sounds to other people.

the samples used for instruments:

bass-super stop 4,Leonard Bowman folder;

kick drum-Noisy Rattle 2,Leonard Bowman folder
-Burn Barrel 01,Leonard Bowman folder;

snare-fridge door open,00 Filler Material (Mister Fox) folder

Hi All,

Here's my submission:

Google drive link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hC_3s4 ... sp=sharing

So here's the list of samples I've used (Might've missed a few but I've honestly lost track of where I used what, since I've re-sampled and rendered most of them out for various creative/efficiency reasons):
---------------------------------------------------------
sin_440Hz_-6dBFS_0.3s
white_-6dBFS_3s
Finger Cymbals soft attack mono up until 6k
Glockenspiel High C mono up until 6k
Smash Wine Bottle
Smash metal rod on metal case
CN Train 406 West at Salisbury, NB (Feb 3, 2015)
Noisy Rattle 2
Super Stop 4
Subway Entering Station
Smash several bottles on metal barrel
---------------------------------------------------------
DAW: Tracktion Waveform 10.4.2
Synth: Pigments 2 (for granular and wavetable), Europa (for wavetable) and Phase Plant (for wavetable) for the pads, plucks and basses.
Sampler: Tracktion Multisampler (Just used once for the Glockenspiel bell arp). Most of the other times I've just used the samples as audio clips directly and edited them (stretch/pitch/reverse/chop).
FX: Glitchmachines Convex (to do sound design for my aux percussion, which I re-sampled from the loop created from kick, snare and hats, that I synthesized from sine and white noise samples), NI Raum, Orilriver, TAL Reverb 4, Transpire, MEqualizer, GClip, ReaComp, Khs Compressor, Khs Delay, Quick Haas, OTT, A1 StereoControl
Mastering Chain: bx_solo, TDR Kotelnikov, GClip, Loudmax
Metering: SPAN, YLM2

Cheers!
