So here are my mix notes.

ON DRUMS... i carved out frequencies mostly with fabfilter s PRO Q. also used some parallel processing. API 2500 for compression, decapitator for distortion, trueverb for ambience and an aural exciter. abbey road rs128 and a bit of decapitatoron the drumbus

On BASS... i used PRO Q for eq, LA2A for leveling. and i duplicated the track so i could arrange different textures for the sections. also used cla bass and sansamp

ON GUITARS... used 1176 on parallel, also proq for carving and some ssl equing.

ON VOCAlS mostly i carved out frequencies with the PRO Q and used the 33609, and 1176 for parallel compression. also used la2a for leveling, PRO DS for deessing and 33609 and massive passive on the group buss

used also Hdelay and manny marroquin s verb.

Hot off the presses, here is my entry just under the wire. My sister just arrived unexpectedly from out of town, so I will post my descriptions later tonight.

(post has been edited to add descriptions)

Tried to make the vocals and harmonies mix sound extra cool when listening in the headphones. Hope she likes it.

FF ProQ was my default EQ on all tracks.

Aux Busses set up for Room, Plate, Slap, Echoboy for complex delays.

I did use the Mid/Side drum tracks in the mix. Neat.

Overheads had a bit of parallel compression and Electra eq. Just got the Electra recently: interesting EQ.

Bass was split using 1176 on lows and Devil Loc, LA3A, and PE1C on mid/highs.

Kicks and Snares: Omega458A FF Pro-G Gates, VMR, Lex Room.

Guitar tracks used API 55As and VMR. Room added on some tracks for staggered depth.

I worked to layer the harmonies in a different fashion than they were marked on spots. I found some that were marked in stereo left/right ended up having more depth by panning to the same side in varying degrees. Nice touches by the vocalist!

Saturation added to some of the vocals. Also used Lex Plate, TLA100.

UPDATE: In my haste to submit my final print before the deadline with just minutes to spare, I now realize that I accidentally printed with several de-essers disabled, so I will, of course, fix that if selected for the final round. :face:

I thought the guitars sounds great as they were and did not use the DIs. Echoboy used on the clean guitars.

Cool song! Thanks for sharing the music.

Good luck to all!

I'm uploading this last minute because I'm busy and I didn't really finish the mix to my satisfaction. We'll see if it's good enough for round 2. I'll update this post with more details in a bit.

Didn't have much time but I still wanted to experiment a bit with the Overheads and Room tracks provided. I went for a roomy sound for the drums, also clipped the kick and snare. Parallel drums with compression and some distortion and RBass working with the room and Overheads as well.

For the bass, just added a fuzz distorted take from the chorus on.

I reamped the guitars because I thought they were a bit too heavy and fizzy. They're similar, a little less heavy and with more tone than distortion. There's an effect on the "Gtr 6 Amp" with a phaser and a panner, to make it more interesting.

Background Vocals didn't need much, just panning and featuring mostly the ones that intertwine with the main voice in the choruses (with a little more compression).

For the lead vocal I used different instances of EQ, compression, distortion and some dynamic EQ to tame rogue frequencies. There's an effect in the second verse, kind of a radio voice. It can be left in or replaced by the normal voice track, as the client chooses.

On the top of the mix, a kind of rear bus with the MJUC in parallel for guitars and voices.

It's been a lot of cleaning up that room, that seems to be everywhere in the recording.
Good luck to all and see you next time!

Cheers

Confess, you just didn't want me to shamelessly copy your mix!

I embraced the room, let's see if it worked
