Hi Folks!
I'm new to the Forum and this is my first MixChallenge Submission.
Thank you David Talbot and Delucq for providing the Tracks.
This is my Contribution, I hope you like it!

This is my first attempt trying to mimic the approach of Andrew Scheps in the box.
Here's the routing for those who are not already familiar with it:
Everything is routed to the Mix Buss (through respective Sub-Group-Busses).
Everything BUT the Drums ist routed to the Rear Buss copying exactly the Mix Buss Levels (FX and parallel Processing not included)
What looks very messy in my pictures of the Mix Buss is in fact pretty simple, I just wanted to find a way to set up a little bit of mid-side EQing without owning a MS-EQ, and that incorporated some Channel splitting and combining which thankfully is a breeze in Studio One, but it crowded up the Mix Buss Slots very Quickly.
In fact it's just a
- Dual-Mono Compressor,
-FC670 without compression for colour,
- a mid-side EQ to give a very light top end boost only to the sides,
-a light Stereo Expansion,
-a Pultec Master Eq, and
-a limiter.
This still might seem a lot for the mix Buss, but allows for much gentler processing on the single Tracks.
On the Rear Buss it's Dual Mono 1176s for Parallel Compression.
More on the Routing of the Tracks:
KickIn/Out & Snare Top/Bottom Mics are reduced to Auxes, which are sent to Parallel K&S Compression.
Rest of the Kit is reduced to one Drum Kit Aux including the direct Tom Mics then sent to SEVERAL Parallel Processors such as Parallel Compresssion and distorted Dirt Aux.
Same with Vocals. They're all sent to one Lead, one Backing Aux to be sent further to the Mixbuss and to parallel processes such as parallel Compression, Slapback, Reverb, Harmonizer spread. Special here is a parallel multiband eq to emphasize just the mid-band when more projection is needed. I felt didn't need all of the parallel tracks in the final mix, but still i set them up in case.
The Guitars go direct to the Mixbuss and Rearbuss.
The Mixbuss processing and the parallel Rear Buss was always on during mixing, in order to mix "Into" the sound shaping Master section.
The Tracks:
I did a lot of manual levelling on the Lead vocal Track, because it felt like the Delucq was probably moving a lot in front of the mic.
For the guitars I used the D.I. Tracks and tried to get as close as possible to the original sound, but yet having a bit more control over the sound by using the built in amp simulation in Studio one. First I wanted to blend the sounds, but in the end decided for the reamping.
On the drums no samples. I set up a "fake" stereo Room out of the mono Room track with Open AIR convolution Reverb.
Didn't use the "bleed" tracks.
Also I had a short reverb on snare and toms to give it more "length".
On the Overheads I used a multiband EQ to tame the cymbals a bit.
EQs were only the S1 Fat Channel in "1073"-Mode, the S1 EQ for some surgical EQ, and some Pultecs also from the Fat Channel.
Reverbs on Vocals was Softube TSAR 1R.
For the Bass I only used only the D.I. signal reamped with Ampire.
I hope that answers most questions and in the end I hope you like tje sound of it.
Cheers !
Flo
