Hello All, here is my mix:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tMuauK ... p=drivesdk
Quite a bit to sort through here. Especially all the percussion. I found a few that I found most interesting and emphisized them. Definately giving it a different rythmic feel then the original. Might be too different for the creators taste but I just felt it lended to some creativity. The vocals needed some tuning fixes and a lot of automation. The bass was actually quite nice just needed a touch of distortion and the right balance. The guitars I used a lot of automation to help with the transitions. The synths I mostly used high/low pass filters to give them all some space. Thanks!
2024-NOV-01 Info: Thank you everyone, for making MC100 a resounding success. Please show Songwriting Competition 087 the same love.
MIX CHALLENGE - MC069 September 2020 - Winners announced
Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC069 September 2020 - Submissions until 21-09-2020 23:59 UTC+2/CEST
Well, thank god I do not earn a living mixing because I would starve to death..
Anyway, not much for notes yes, there was some eqs, compression, but just could not get the song flowing. I just felt like each section needed to be mixed separately. I also needed to perp the tracks more, but just did not have time. Tough song to try to mix and get all the loops working together along with getting the other parts to gel .
Wav 44/24- https://www.dropbox.com/s/dp4uvo29ivfbd ... e.wav?dl=0
Questions or thoughts let me know
Thanks Jerze

Hi everyone,
So for this mix I focused the track to have everything revolve around the vocals. I cleaned up the vox with some noise reduction and then automated each part individually for consistency as well as individual impact when needed. I ran the main vocals through an outboard tube compressor for a bit of saturation and leaned heavily into using the vocal doubles as a way to bring some of the energy of the performance through.
I tried to keep the image as narrow as possible until the finale of the track, at which point i widened it. I also tried to keep as much of the fattness of the bass as possible. But keeping the mids under control started to become an issue as there is a lot going on in the track, so I tried to give different parts priority at different times and some of it required heavy and/or automated eq.
For the percussion, I filtered out a fair amount leaving many parts to support the main toms line.
Summing bus, i used some saturation and a bit of SSL glue.
Overall, i just wanted to make the vocals the main quality of the mix, with much of the rest as a soundscape to hold the vocals up.
Anyways, it was a joy to work on, of course i can provide as many details as anyone would like.
All the best.
Square.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC069 September 2020 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
It is the 22nd September 2020, 04:30 UTC+2/CEST - the first Mix Round has officially ended
Another very warm welcome to all new participants. A huge thank you to everyone that is spreading the word about the Mix Challenge. Please help get the Songwriting Competition as popular (less than 3 days left).
STATISTICS:
INFORMATION:
Until the end of 2020, I will provide a data sheet each month showing all entries and what values they have in terms of loudness (LUFS ILk), maximum signal strength (dBTP), if they are in the correct bitrate and sampling rate, if they were downloadable, etc. This data sheet is not an automated process. You can read about the whole process here
I will post separately once I have the data sheet prepared and uploaded (which will be linked to from this post you're reading right now).
I now open the field for everyone to give each other feedback (highly encouraged). This will be independent to the client feedback however.
Please watch this spot for the client feedback and Mix Round 2 participant announcement.
Good luck to all participants.
The Songwriting Competition 37 (SWC37) is still in full swing.
The deadline is 24th September 2020, 23:59 UTC+2/CEST. The genre is "Lo-Fi Hip Hop" - interaction is highly encouraged.
Please spread the word!

Hello All,
Trying to figure this submission process out.. I didn't have a lot of time to devote to this, but I thought it was really cool..
Here's my mix- https://www.dropbox.com/s/2o7wkg08mgk11 ... 7.wav?dl=0

Welcome to the forum, BrunoBennett77.
If you're lost regarding what to do, please check in with the official Rules and Guidelines. Regarding the deadline, please check in with the world clock at the top of the forum and the Global Countdown on the main homepage.
Sadly, you submitted your entry after the deadline. But I invite everyone to offer you feedback regardless. This forum is about the learning after all.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC069 September 2020 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
Could you please disclose whose mixes were not available? For one of the earlier mix comps you said my mix was not downloadable while it was easily accessible (I always double check in incognito mode).Mister Fox wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 04:33 CEST[*]We have 2 submission that could not be downloaded by the time of this post and is therefore disqualified
Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC069 September 2020 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
all good.. I ddn't get to start til late yesterday, I had to replace my power amp unfortunately.. but I did make up some really neat things in this mix.. I hate it that I missed the deadline.. I'll have to look for that universal clock thing for the next go.. not wasted time by no means.. that arrangement kind of forced me into creative mode trying to figure out how to create what I wanted from what was there.. I've listened to quite a few of the mixes.. I know I wont be eligible, but hopefully my mix can stay up in the forum for discussion sake..

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC069 September 2020 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
As with all previous games that used the "Submissions Overview" mechanic, this will all be revealed once the PDF is up and ready. I've just finished downloading all entries - it is currently 5am. Give me a day or two do check the material.
Your (@Optoslam) last game was MC064, and I clearly wrote that I was almost not able to download your entry due to a possible server glitch. This time, everything went without a hitch.
The two entries I couldn't download this time were due to one track being removed from Dropbox, the other not being set "public access" (as in: Dropbox asked me to sign in). This is unfortunate, but we do have clear set rules that are repeated several times over in the first two posts.
I'll update the thread ASAP.
Welcome to the forum - please enjoy your stay. And please have an eye open for the next game.

Don't worry - I am not purging any posts. Unless I have to step in as admin due to stevere unruly behavior by a user.BrunoBennett77 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 22, 2020 05:29 CESTI know I wont be eligible, but hopefully my mix can stay up in the forum for discussion sake..
