Thanks for the feedback.
I made some eq changes to the kick to try and cut the boom along with some small changes to the bass, quite a few eq changes to the harp including some saturation, and I worked on the guitar solo to get it to fit better by cutting way back on the reverb and reducing the effects.

Hello,
I worked on the things Fabian complained about the back vocals, the bass, the snare/kick, the lead vocals, the whole integration in a more coherent mix
It was very interesting, I learned some more, thanks for that Fabian and Mix Challenge!
I hope it converted my mix in a better one... It was nice to play the game anyway.
Good luck everybody,
Kevin.

Hi everybody,
here is my Version 2 with less twack on Kick and Snare and a drier solo guitar. It was intentionally very wet to make it stand out against the rest, since it's a solo which is supposed to scream for attention. But I think it all still works out very well, so I hope the changes will make you happy!
Usually I don't do this, but I fooled around with some new toys and as a goodie attached a poor man's mastered version (which goes completely off the record, of course).

I was impressed with
Medll and
Mork's snares. Great job.
However there is no documentation on your posts.
Could you please guys share your settings to get your snare? (if you don't mind
)
Hey Kev, sorry for the late reply, I've been swamped with work! Unfortunately our client wasn't as impressed as you, but to be honest, there's nothing special going on. First console emulation (SSL E) then some boosting of body and top end and a little cut for less boing. This is followed by some light conpression to just give it a little punch but don't bring out too much bleed, and finally some transient enhancement (also very light because of the poor recording). I think the secret is that I layered a sample for some clean punch which otherwise is impossible to get out of this recording. Just some generic acoustic snare, treatment's almost the same as the original snare but with more comp. Hope that answers your question, as always I won't go into numbers because my specific settings won't fit your or anybody elses soundscape. Just have fun turning knobs!
Cheers
Mork

I worked on the kick to bring out the transient and automated/compressed it generally to control the hits that stood out. Rebalanced kick and bass as well.
Changed the main voice verb and brought back some 7k that were causing that heavy de-essing.
Compressed the electric guitars to tame those peaks.
Rebalanced the solo.
Cheers & good luck!

Thank you for the feedback -- I made a few adjustments. I probably overprocessed the harmonica, but it's sounding good over here. I should have left well enough alone once I got that 2k issue and clipping issue sorted, but I started chasing my tail and it was December 3rd all of a sudden.
I worked on the vocals a bit more, removing excess breath noises, automating further, and trying to get them to sit in the mix a bit better.
I was happy with the electrics in the supporting role, but I did bump them a bit in the choruses. Also backed off that reverb on the solo (good call).
Thanks again, and good luck to the other contestants.
