01. Arelem - A Game of Fates
The percussion blends nicely with the drums. The snare drum is bit too much overdriven (has clipped). The rhythm guitar parts consists of several loops that are engaged from time to time. There could be some variation of the patterns. The solos are pretty rudimentary and notably artifical. There are many orchestral parts that are nicely layered together. The cavernous echoes in the middle section sounds a bit wierd (what it should represent?). The modulation after the breakdown is a very cool idea. The overall mix is quite good.
This tune has a real driving action vibe. It feels mostly like a background track for a certain phase of the gameplay (namely the combat phase). The sructure of the composition is relly a collection of loops that are meant to be triggered at a certain moment (low health, more enemies involved, boss fight). As a stand alone composition (main theme of the game) is feels a bit too long and repetitive. There is some melodic stuff heve and there, but it all is kinda undeveloped. There is certainly something should happen in the foreground.
02. OlliH - Hold Eem Or Fold Em
The intro is very intriguing. The guitars sounds pretty good, they have a mid-gain crunchy tone suitable for pop-rock song. The symphonic instruments are well programmed with many different articulations, but sometimes it still goes into "machine gun" effect (probably the library you used needs a proper round robins). Sadly there is no drums, it would be great to hear a fully featured pop-rock song that reminiscent of anime openings. It has an orchestral percussion instead. The production quality is pretty good.
This tune could be a perfect anime opening from late 90's/early 2000's. Pop-rock mixed with violas and violins are perfect match. This composition is very melodic and has many memorable lines, so it can be a main theme of the game.
03. JanKoekepan - Boss Carddraft
This entry has a relaxed atmosphere with a bit of intrigue. The arrangement consists of a softer sounding, mostly acoustic instruments that supports the vibe. The percussion elemets are very cool and have a decent groove with "poly metric" elements. There is a "machine gun" effect on some of the percussion, probably it needs a better velocity layering. The production is quite good in this one.
This tune is good for an "idle" stages of gameplay (main menu, card selection screen, quest info/description screen). It has a pieceful, relaxed vibe, perfectly sitting in the background. It seems it's also can be looped. As a main theme of the game it is too short and don't have any upfront musical themes that could be memorized and associated with the game.
04. EsteveCorbera - Homenatge a MSXZanac
The 80's atmosphere is very present in this entry. Kinda "Stranger Things" theme with more modern elements like orchestral percussion and cinematic effects. The stings blends very nice with the synths, those swells works well creating tension. The main synth melody is playing carefully to support an atmosphere, but it's quite developed to be a main theme of the game. The mix is pretty good, but I would prefer a lead synth to be panned a bit closer to the centre.
Perhaps, if a card game with sci-fi/cyberpunk elements would exist, it will be a perfect soundtrack for it. Something like "Blade Runner" or already mentioned "Stranger Things" inspired game. This entry is quite suitable to be a main theme and it also has a sense or mystery and intrigue that was encouraged in the premise.
05. Denisioo - Serenity
This entry has a pieceful and dreamy, yet engaging atmosphere. Kinda fantasy adventure aestetic. The composition develops very softly. It was quite expecting to get into more epic, more fuller part, but instead it goes into the breakdown. When I heard the vocal in the middle I thought "are we gonna change the mood?", but it kept the same tonality and harmony, and those vocal lines seems to be out of key. The second half of the composition is a slightly changed main part with the same build up. The production quality is pretty good here.
As a part of game soundtrack, it is quite suitable for a main theme. It has a defined mood and melodic lines. The big question is a setting of a possible game. As I said, it may be a fantasy adventure with more "family oriented" aestetic (rated below "teen"). It has a very soft appearance, almost like a lullaby which is a bit misleading, considering the premise in the main post. It needs to have more epic parts, or slightly change the mood to keep an interest.
06. canese - Uncertain Paradox
This entry has a simple melody that may feel a bit repetitive. There is a lot of little parts and special effects in the background that keeps an interest. The more quiet and atmospheric part closer to the end sounds really nice and can brings some divesity to the mostly static composition. The production quality is very good here.
As for JanKoekepan's entry, this track fiths more into an "idle" stages of gameplay. A perfect background music that has a lot of interesting small elements, but overall it's pretty static and repetitive. It needs to have some more developed melodic part with a stronger emotional content. Though, it is effectively stucks in the head and may be more preferable for some one else.
07. Crosshatched - Show Your Hand Mr. Piezo
It statrs with a very interesting and intriguing lines. After some time, the composition changes unexpectedly and takes you to a random places. The choices of instrument timbres are also seems a bit random to me. The acoustic piano doesn't quite blends well with the synthetic one and other synth-like parts. It gives a feeling that instruments battle each other for a listener's interest. The mix is acceptible, but it needs to give some space to the layered synth parts as they have a lot of clashing frequencies.
This entry has a nice dark atmosphere. Althrough, to be a main theme of the game it needs to have a more upfront and memorable melodic part. The way this composition is constructed reminds me a movie soundtracks. Some snippets of it could be used for storyline cutscenes.
08. MellowBrowne - Loop Of Faith
This entry has a mid-eastern feel with a more darker atmosphere compared to other entries. The drums and percussion creates a catchy groove, almost a marching beat. The melodic parts gives an intriguing feeling, but sadly they are not quite developing through out the track. After some time it gets a bit repetitive and monotonous. It would be nice if the musical change coloser to the end would happen a lot earlier. The mix is pretty acceptible.
This entry has an energy to drive an interest to play. It could be a main theme of the game, but it needs to have a main melody to be more upfront. The overall development is also needed to create more diversity in musical parts, as there is a lot of organic timbres to play with.
09. KukoBass - Check Your Cards
The big cinematic percussion in the intro gives a very intriguing feel. Than the synth lead involves. It has a very basic and dry timbre, like some one accidentally launched an 8-bit game in the background. The lead seems to be played by hand, but there is no articulations (e.g. bends, vibrato, ADSR for amp and filter). It is quite obvious an intention to create a hybrid orchestral/electronic set, but it all doesn't quite blend well. Technically and stylisticly it's a totally different worlds. I like the change of groove and overall feel at 2:20. This part could happen earlier and could be more developed. The mix quality is pretty acceptible, apart from a lead part.
This entry has a good potential to become a main theme of the game. It has a good melodic parts in it, but it needs a better instrument timbre choices and a bit more expressive playing. Perhaps the the whole track needs to be rearranged to be more varied.
10. NickCollins - Luck of the Draw
This one really sounds like an early 90's PC game. The sounds quality is lo-fi and MIDI'ish with mostly monophonic instruments. The meolodies are quite catchy with a bit of mystery vibe. It also has a cool lo-fi funky beat. The thing that bothers me a little is the amount of sub-bass. This style of music benefits more with the subtle, almost inaudible bass. And to me the traingle sounds too clean and hi-fi. There cuold be used some bitcrushing to make it fit more into context of the track (it might drasticly change it's timbre though). A very stylish production overall.
Speaking of a game soundtrack, this could be a minigame theme inside some RPG or action game, playing in some sort of old school arcade club. I also remember the times of flash games where you can hear music like that. For that propouse it could be even a single track, constantly playing in the background. It also loops seamlessly, there is something magical about it. I think I listened to it for twenty times in a row.
