This thread is a supplementary for the Songwriting Competition.
It will cover the topic of "allowed tools" for the game in question in more detail than the large Rule Book. This thread also summarizes various recurring questions from threads, blog posts and conversations on Discord.
The add-on set is split over the course of the following posts, for easier understanding and simplicity.

Vocal Sample usage
VOCAL SAMPLE AND CONSTRUCTION KIT USAGE
As of January 2023, no vocal phrases/a cappella sample library may be used anymore as center piece of a production.
No lead vocals are allowed that are not your own, made by a vocalist for this track specifically (including providing proper credits), or by created custom phrases through the help of sample instruments and/or vocal synthesis. (see examples below)
NOT ALLOWED:
Samples that have pre-recorded lyric lines or phrases, that are part of construction kits and/or already in a certain song-key.
Examples:
Additional to that, please take note of the established rules regarding a capella usage.
Most notably places like "Looperman", who now also offer "music loops" and construction kits.
ALLOWED - Sample Sets and Vocal Synthesizers:
Samples (selection):
Voice synths (selection):
Additionally, please reconsider focusing on so called "Construction Kits" or "Loop Kits" from various companies. While this is a valid quick songwriting tool, it might result in possible legal issues with labels - depending on who "claimed copyright" for a specific sample first.
This topic has been a hot debate in the music realm for various years at this point. It has also been brought up in the original news blog entry (including additional videos on the topic), if you want to know more.

AI Tools
AI Tools:
As of September 2024, AI tools may no longer be used as the sole music/sound creation tool. This mainly concerns apps and online sites where you only have to enter "prompts" or similar and the rest is being done for you. Additionally, a ban on DAWs where you only specify a BPM and genres, then let algorithms decide the result.
There reason behind this decision is not to stifle creativity, or testing new and interesting ways to elevate your production. The idea here is to be more mindful of "what" you create and claim as your own. The lines have been thinned over the course of the last 4 years (status 2024). Additionally, the topic of "AI" in particular is a hot bed of controversy in terms of "rights" ("prompt generators" are usually trained on existing productions).
NOT ALLOWED:
Online Pages (full songs, partial songs / "beats"):
DAW / DAW Add-Ons:
HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE:
ALLOWED:
"Intelligent" Songwriting / Drum Pattern Enhancers / Harmony Theory Tools that help you build upon your song ideas
While some of the tools mentioned are "highly simplified" to get the ball rolling, they tend to be more "hands-on" and don't simply generate a full production based on a simple prompt.

NOT ALLOWED:

- Suno
- Udio
- Soundverse
- Songburst
- Boomy
DAW / DAW Add-Ons:
- Bandlab SongStarter
- PG Music Inc. Band-in-a-Box
- TensorFlow Magenta Studio
HIGHLY QUESTIONABLE:
- anything "voice cloning" or "voice re-modulation" (as in: upload your voice, let another voice interpret your singing)
- text-to-sample (a fairly new topic - I consider it "questionable, but usable" as long as you drastically alter the created content for your own productions)
ALLOWED:
"Intelligent" Songwriting / Drum Pattern Enhancers / Harmony Theory Tools that help you build upon your song ideas
- Plugin Boutique / ScalerDev Scaler
- Xfer Records Cthulhu
- W.A. Production "Insta Series" (InstaChord, InstaScale, InstaComposer)
- Surge Synth Team Stochas
- Axart Software AutoBeat
- Rayzoon Jamstix
While some of the tools mentioned are "highly simplified" to get the ball rolling, they tend to be more "hands-on" and don't simply generate a full production based on a simple prompt.
