Pleasure and easy to mix. Sounded quite ready just by pushing up faders. My main inspiration for this mix was Doctor Feelgood. For the same reason I didn’t do any special mixing tricks just basic compression-eq-reverb stuff. Just for balance checking I also listened Green Day and Foo Fighters. But D...

When I listend the song for the first time, it came immediatly to my mind to use Jerry Jeff Walker as my reference. Also, when I listened the arrangement, I thought that there was a lot of nice small ideas, but to me the sound was too crowded. Some of the ideas were masking each other. So I decided ...

Here's my new version for round two. I touched almost everything, but the basic concept is pretty same as on the first round. Smaller room, and thereby also a bit brighter and more aggressive sound. Fun to mix. I grew up by listening blues and country from 40’s, 50’s and 60’s. My main reference was T-Bone Walker. So, I was after a retro sound. For the same reason my tools were basic eq, compression and reverbs. The main challange was to create old style spatial stage that didn’t sound too much ...

Hi, I think I managed to make all the changes that were asked. I made small eq and pan changes to many tracks, but the basic sound is very similar to the first version. This great song reminded me of early records of Leonard Cohen. For that reason my main reference was his ”Live at the Isle of Wight”. (That DVD is one of my favorites) I also had some early Neil Young available to refresh my ears. During mixing my focus was to keep main vox natural and full. Eveythi...

Re: MASTERING CHALLENGE - MastC004 October 2014 - in evaluation
Luckily I don’t have to be a judge, but during my coffee break I started to think about this evaluation process. Without too much thinking I came up with this system 10 points max Target specs: 1 points Correct loudness (+-0.5 LUFS): 2 points Risk of clipping (>-0.5 dBTP): 1 points MP3 tagged correc...

There are rules also in football, but you don’t get a red card of every offense. If secretary or assistant forgets to write the tags, it’s a place for a punishment, but I don’t consider red card as suitable. How about some minus points?

What program do you use to read the metadata? They seem to give different results. And many of them can’t read metadata written by some other software. For example tags written with Hofa to wav file, are not readable by every program. I downloaded my submission and checked with iTunes and online ser...

Hi, here's my take with this nice song. Bass tamed in low mids. I tried to bring up the kick and snare a little bit. I tried to tame Cymbals without loosing the brightness. Some transient control and little bit expander. Some low harmonics added. I mainly used bx_dynEQ, TDR Nova GE, bx_digital V2, P...
