Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - SWC027 November 2019 - Winners announced
I'll go with IK MODO BASS. Thanks! I'm amazed I won this one. I did put my heart and soul into the song, but in the end, I was disappointed that it didn't turn out heavier. I usually make "epic/classical" style pieces with some distorted guitars, but I had a heck of a time trying to revers...

The melody is a bit too simplistic, though. Maybe you are outlining chords too closely. Glaring example - guitars at 0:36. Be more bold - it's ok to have passing tones that aren't in the key/mode. Maybe more contrary motion as well (some tones moving up while others are moving down) - you do this a...

Thanks - appreciate all the feedback about drums. The Jamstix stuff sounds interesting - I just downloaded the free version and will try it out soon. I hate the idea of using loops, but am ok with some AI help  , so this seems perfect. I do like the idea of learning from MIDI files, though. I...

Fall of Themyscira - becsei_gyorgy Very Symphonic Metal name. I like it. Nice Piano intro. Bass sound is a bit funky, and seems out of place. 0:19 - this would have sounded better not hitting the tonic note here with the bass - would have been really cool if it just hung unresolved for a few second...

1:30 Weird curling bass sound, or is it guitar? It's a VST bass run through a distorted bass preset setting in NI Guitar Rig. 2.06 You should consider a new drummer, it’s the weakest link in your band Ha! Yeah, but he's been with me literally forever :-) Seriously, though, I have started watching Y...

Oh man - I just realized that I have a few tracks with the wrong levels. I was trying to work on getting the LUFS correct, and without realizing it, mistakenly hit the "LUFS learn" in Ozone on a quiet section, which wrecked the whole song. I then adjusted a ton of track levels, until I fig...

Here's my submission, "Transclusion". The term is a rarely-used computer science term that just means to take content from some place and move it to another with code (most of my songs are named after computer-related terms). The song is roughly inspired by the tough time I had after my pa...

RyanC Great song. I like the guitars that start the TV edit a lot. The double-tracked vocals are great, and I really like the different time signatures in the chorus - bold move. There is some nasty room resonance, esp. evident in the opening vocals on the album edit. Also, some words also don't si...

Re: SONGWRITING COMPETITION - What theme / genre would you like to see next?
I want to share an idea. Someone will provide a melody for the contest. Pianoforte, violin, flute .... It can be a short solo part or a long song. Contestants must write music. The soldering part can be cut, but it should sound completely in the track at least once. I would love to see this, if it ...

Here's my entry, "Oli The Cat", a fictional cartoon based on my in-laws cat, who is constantly finding new ways of getting into trouble. I was way out of my comfort zone for this one, but it was really fun to put together. My son and daughter joined in on the last verse/chorus, and my daug...
