hi all,
I have addressed the different sections to try to give more representation of the story. This involved mainly doing all the things that Gaz listed. Some way into the work, another forum member, sthauge, reminded me that he’d noticed my mix was lacking in depth and I started reading about an engineer he mentioned called Bruce Swedien.
After this diversion, I came back to the mix wanting to change the whole sound to a much more natural one, but I realised this was what Gaz was asking for anyway :)

———————————————————————-
The most fun section was the battle, in which used these devices:

1) “shoot shoot shoot” sections panned 4 different ways randomly ordered to increase the sense of disorientation.
2) Screams were given delays basically so we get generally a lot more screaming.
3) The guitar has a multi-tap delay which is panned the opposite side to give hopefully a bit of a ‘bursts of bullets’ flavour. Also in the solo I add a longer multi-tap delay at the highest repeated note.
4) The whole section is louder than the rest of the song for added shock value.
5) The drums have distortion.
—————————

there’s lots of automation as instructed and less compression as a result.
Cheers all, here’s the link

thanks again to Gaz Williams and to Mister Fox

Hey,

sadly I can’t meet the deadline due to life.
It’s a shame, I really like the song!

Good luck everyone!

Hello,
Here is my proposal for the second round, I followed the recommendations as best as possible, the song Yes mainly served as a reference, I reworked the balance and the final color using for the first time an analog summing +Daw (so it's not just mixed in the box) I hope you like it, for my part I'm happy with what I did (which is rarely the case for me...)

Happy listening to all !

Hi fellow challengers, song providers, moderators and guests! (Hope that covers everyone here  )

How exciting to be in the finals!
I had to do my revision last minute and with severe congested sinuses, nose, throath and maybe ears too...Damn flu, but I crawled down to my studio to make these changes anyhow, sorry if I went overboard with the treble, can't really tell! :)

From artist feedback and my own notes I made these changes to my mix:

Backed off some compession on drums (Individual tracks and bus, also paralell bus) Hey I'm a metal guy  so the heavyhandedness comes without thinking!

Let some more treble through on Oh:s, piano, acc. guitars

Drastically lowered the piano to let the organ be the star of the show in said part.

Raised BG vocals quite a lot overall and even more in last chorus.

added a masterbus eq shelf 2 db at 12 k (sides only) and 1 db bump at 870 hz

I played around with levels on sound fx and prophet synths and also did some more automation on drums and piano.

Added a ghosty fx on the piano in the bridge part.

Switched out a compressor on lead vocals for another similar that I found tonally more suiting.

Added some tube saturation on bass group with an additional la2a type compressor.

And tremolo on bass (Only the amp tracks, left the Di alone.)

Here goes:

Thank you and good night!
