Hi all, please find my submission for MC094 here:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6h2pw516 ... e3bxi&dl=0
Life was a bit crazy this month, so I apologize in advance for the less-than-stellar documentation I am about to post. (I am currently typing this on my phone on a Greyhound bus without my computer in front of me.) Anyway, enough excuses..
Drums - I pretty much compressed the hell out of the kick & snare. I was going for that “in your face” down the middle sound. I did a pretty aggressive high-pass on the overheads to focus on the cymbals. There’s reverb on the snare and toms. I let the room tracks handle the rest.
Bass - both tracks were used per the song provider’s request. I did my best to blend them together, and to let those melodic lines come through.
Guitars - not much other than panning and a bit of EQ and reverb. I did a lot of pan automation to try to give the stereo image contrast between the sections of the song.
Synth - basically just a lot of saturation and some reverb. I struggled getting them to play nice with the other instruments. But they’re definitely in there. If I hit mute during playback, there was an obvious sonic hole.
Lead Vox - yeah, it’s compressed to death with a dash of reverb.
BG Vox - pretty much just compressed, panned for width, and hit with reverb.
That’s all that comes to my fried brain at the moment. Feel free to let me know if you have any specific questions or concerns.
Thank you for listening, and for your consideration.
Best regards,
Jeff (jeffssoloband)

Hello,
Here is my mix:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MV3RlQ ... sp=sharing
Drums: it was challenge to get right snap to drums, because it was not allowed to add samples, so i try to change transient of kick and snare to make it huge.
Bass: I cut 250hz and a little it high end(normally i add high end but in this case it was too much)
Vocals: It needed some fire so i added with compression and right eq(I added 10k en some 1.6k)
Guitars: I reamped gutiars that needed amp simulator and then i eq to match vibe of bass.
Cheers!
Alex

Hello Again!
I present to you, my link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Od-k2U ... sp=sharing
Great song this month, right up my alley!
And also, how interesting to work with tracks recorded with unusual techniques! unbelieveable that snare that I can process to the moon and back without the usual pesky hihat screaming -me too, me too!
Well, this time around there was no idea holding back, i turned knobs like crazy, alot of them all the way, and I could finally get to se my compression meters moving!
Mix was made in Reaper on pc with some additional hardware inserts.
One initial headache was how to do with all the guitar tracks, all of them being stereo, doubletracked. I played around with different placements initially, as I think the songprovider intended with every guitar present in both channels I.e. stereo. However in the end I placed them more like I usually do with one rythm guitar on each side. though I kept one dub of each at about 50% panned and the other fully. The melodic GTR ASH 2 is in stereo still. as is GTR ash 3, but narrower.
The bass group track recieves from both provided bass tracks plus one duplicate of the DI that I ran through a sansamp for distortion. The original DI is lowpassed at around 170 hz and the amp and distorted track are highpassed accordingly. The bus gets eqed and compressed with 1176 style plugin and then some tubewarmth from a warm audio la2a. Theres also a tape simulation.
Drums are heavilly processed to be able to cut through. almost every track in this mix is saturated in one way or the other, not least the drums. Theres an instance of decapitator or Saturn on every drumtrack and also on the bus and the paralell bus. (which is also heavilly compressed, as you would have guessed.) and eq moves are really agressive, as an example the snare gets a 15 db top boost and 9 db boost at 5.5 K and the kickdrum isn't far behind. Then compressed using a distressor plugin doing som 5-8 db gr. of course No samples used, no samples needed!
Leadvox gets compressed courtesy of warm audio wa76 some 10 db GR. I used SPL de-verb to get it even dryer before sending to a double delay. There was eq and some soothe., deesser and a limiter.
The Synths were tricky to get to play nice with the guitars. I tried to get some pumping energy in them using a sidechain from the kick. Then more distortion ofcourse!
Theres a couple of reverbs, a plate for the snare, a gated verb also for the snare and a room for synths and some guitar parts. Theres a longer delay that comes in every once in a while on vocals.
I almost forgot, a fair deal of automation, volume riding, mostly drums and vocals but maybe the guitars aswell.
The MAsterbus is sent to a Tk audio bc1 (ssl style ) buscompressor and has a pultec plugin adding some 100 hz and below. also there is an oxford inflator slapped on (very gently) for some extra smack but there's no limiter on. Drumgroup also got the inflator treatment.
well that's how I remember it, anyways!
Now I'm going to have a beer and check out the competition! Good evening everyone!!

Hi!
Fun track to mix! I found the guitars pretty challenging, my attempt:
https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/uvnm40hj ... znef3&dl=0
My mix approach:
-Drums: removed some resonances in the snare and added attack with transient designer.
(Parallel) compressed all the drums quite a bit and added high end.
-Guitars: removed some low mids to let them sit better in de mix added some space around it.
-Vocal: compressed the s**t out of the, added some saturation and gave them some verb and delays
-Synth: Applied high pass and mix it a bit under the guitars.
-applied some automation in the FX and volumes of the guitars.
-Masterbus: max 2 db of compression and some saturation.
Cheers!

Hi everyone!
Thanks to @BenjiRage and Pray For Hayden for providing the tracks and to Mister Fox for organizing everything.
My English is not quite good at all, so apologies if any mistake.
Here is my mix:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1m-e9mu ... sp=sharing
After the gain staging process, I started mixing by moving the faders and during the mixing process I kept the same signal in and out of each plugin.
I processed all the tracks separately and sent them to buses for each instrument and vocals.
I did the whole process ITB, with free plugins (except qclone on vocals). I used the ones from analog obsession and the stock ones from reaper.
Drums:
For the kick drum, I used a gate to cut the tail, then compression and EQ cutting out quite a few mid frequencies, .
For the snare (bottom inverted phase) and toms, the process was the same and I sent each one to a bus with reverb and more compression with a slower attack.
I applied the same to the overheads and room without the gate.
On the bus, compression and some EQ, nothing special .
Bass:
I did a reamp (DI witth Vadim taranov´s Doubletracker for stereofaker effect) with the Nalex Bass amp, Tpa1 from Ignite amps (poweramp) and two bass impulses (stereo), compresion and eq
.
The bass that came amplified in mono I treated with compression and EQ, cutting resonances, mids frequencies and filtering it to fit with the kick drum.
On the bus, more compression and EQ.
Guitars:
Compression and eq, and the clean ones with chorus and reverb.
Treated all separately and sent to a bus with more EQ and stereo spread.
Synths:
Compression and EQ again, nothing special and sent to a bus with more compression, EQ and stereo spread.
Vocals:
Compression, EQ and sent to three buses
:
1 bus, with compression and EQ
2 bus, with 1/8 delay
3 bus, with 1/4 delay and stereo spread
bus 3 and 2 automated on/off for delays effect enphasis.
Sumbus: ButterComp2 (airwindows)
1.3 True peak
-18,1 LUFS
Good luck everybody!.

Perfect tune for the pandemic period:
https://mega.nz/file/F3QiiLQL#iG3qbuyC3 ... 8R-R_hmgDI
Not a lot of commentary to be shared for this one.
Moderate slapback on the lead vocal -maybe it works, maybe not.
Tried to maintain the original tone of the drums. Some compression and buss limiting on the shells to thicken up a bit.
Attempts made to not let the good Bass work get buried.
As the artists suggest, emphasis was placed more on capturing the energy rather than polishing treatments.
Thanks to the artist for sharing the session with the forum.

Hi there Manii
Many thanks for your mix. I can confirm the link works, I've just downloaded and am listening now. For some reason WAV files never seem to play in the browser with Google Drive.
Best regards,
Ben

As always, my first step was gainstaging, followed by rough mix (faders up, panning and levels).
Drums:
Sound Radix Auto Align, Fab Filter EQ, Plugin Alliance SSL 4000G on each channel. Everything was sent to Drum bus. Drum bus was slightly processed with LTL Silver bulet mk2
Kick & Snare sent to parallel bus with Waves DBX160 on it.
Drum bus and parallel bus were sent to Drums stem.
Bass:
Bass DI was multed to 2 channels, one was with more bass (body) the other one was distorted, without much bass.
Bass AMP was added to taste
All bass channels were sent to Bass stem
