Hi there,
as the song provider wrote "... it is all about energy ...", in the face of max -16 LUFS
it's not to say much about the mixing process. the tracks were recorded well, and properly laid out, no hurdles so far. so all i have done is straight forward. EQing, compressing, reverbing. no tricks and thrills.
Kick and Snare got some extremer EQ settings, to get the mud away and life to it. On OH and Room, the harshness on cymbals was reduced via EQ settings. The Drum bus got some saturation.
The bass also got got some saturation, a normal move these days.
On guitar bus I hunted for some sibilans, got them and killed them. All in all, there was to much muddiness in the guitar tracks, reduced with EQ.
the vox got parallel compression, as some reverb and delay.
On master bus there worked a tube style compressor wich also added a bit saturation to the sum. max 4 DB of reduction.
Here is the result: https://my.hidrive.com/lnk/FY6IScklK
2024-NOV-01 Info: Thank you everyone, for making MC100 a resounding success. Please show Songwriting Competition 087 the same love.

Happy to be back for a second time!!
My first shot at mixing Hard Rock, a neat challenge to take up.
My main focus of this particular song was equalization; i.e. minor eq or eq for creating space.
Subtle reverb on drums and guitars for some depth
A little bit of saturation on the bass guitar.
Some De -ess on the vocals
And master bus compression

Hey everyone, here is my mix for challenge nr 100 ! (congrats btw)
Great song to work on !! Thanks SilverStoned & MrFox.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XfUx0x ... sp=sharing
drums
EQ
PSPVintagewarmer
bass
I was playing around with iZotope Trash 2 hoping to add some subtle saturation or overdrive.
But ended up really pushing it in some areas and really liking that sound.
guitars
Basically used EQ, panning and FAT channel compression and a lot of volume automation
synth
not to much, just some volume control
vocals
EQ, PSPVintagewarmer and volume automation
some master bus compression and stereo widening
Great song to work on !! Thanks SilverStoned & MrFox.

Hi all,
Wow, mix challenge number 100? I couldn't not participate!
I usually work on rap vocal mixes, so it was a real pleasure to work on a full mix in a different musical style. Let's Rock!
I based myself on the song “Motherfucker” by the French group Weak, as a reference (https://youtu.be/XrnZYsCAnKo?si=GfebPY5xxVRe1kdM). And I mixed on my headphones DT 770 Pro.
I tried to work on the bass and drums to have a good energy, the voice on top, and finally the guitars and synth to accompany the whole.
I worked in a classic way: volume balance, panoramic, equalization (EQ of Reaper and Pulsar w495), compression (UAD LA2A, TDR Molotok), reverb (UAD Lexicon)...
A channel strip of Acustica on the mix bus to bring cohesion to the song.
I tried to distribute the guitars well on the whole sound field.
I doubled the guitar solo, as well as the backing vocals of the chorus, to bring more width and depth, with a stereo enhancer...
I wanted to do something fun on the bridge, but being a little limited by time, I simply put a delay. on the lead vocal I think there would have been possibility to do more, maybe with a filter or something. I don't know.
I'm not 100% satisfied with this mix. If I had more time, I think I would have worked more on the guitars, to give more thickness and personality.
But my goal was mainly to participate, and to have fun with this Mister Rock'n'Roll, so mission accomplished for me!
Thanks to MisterFox and The SilverStoned !

Hey,
mixing this Song was really, really fun, allthough it was a lilttle bit tricky. I used a lot of Saturation for several reasons: Energy and Loudness, Character and to tame the Transients (expecially Snare). The allready gated Snare I gated again as tight as possible.

Hi everyone! I had a great time mixing this song. Thanks to the song provider!
Here’s my mix: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/psyja3oe ... mss7v&dl=0
Mix bus: SSL bus compressor, EQ, Studer
All instruments were grouped together and compressed using Arturia’s 609 compressor to glue the whole mix together. Literally - 1 dB.
Vocals: Basic EQ, compression, and I tried to reduce some of the reverb. It seemed like there was too much of it.
Bass: A bit of distortion, EQ, and compression.
Guitars: EQ, compression.
Good luck to everyone!

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC100 October 2024 - Submissions until 21-OCT-2024 23:59 UTC+2/CEST
In general for all the tracks I used compressor and equalizer, after an adequate gain staging and a raw mix in order to obtain a good balance of all instruments both in terms of loudness, volume and pan.
For kick and snare I used a parallel compression with CLA-76. I used transX to shaping the transient attacks of snare signals and for adding punch to kick and tom floor. On the Snare, kick and tom floor track I used also a gate and expander.
For OH and Room I used a de-esser for high frequency harshness. OH is heavy compressed in side chain with snare signal.
For Toms rack I used bitpressor compressor. For tom floor the Kramer pie compressor and a little ping pong effect
Finally I added a touch of saturation throughout the drum bus.
For the bass I used 3 aux tracks: one for sub-low freq., for the low-end and on the last there is a voltage amp plugin. On the bass bus there is transXtherefore to enhance rhythmic drive, eq, compression, overdrive (in post fader) and a bit of saturation and chorus efx (pre-fader send to two aux tracks).
On the bus master there is Kramer hls to enhance 1k and a bass rider.
Guitars: I used a LCR bus where the tracks are routed. I choose 3 pan direction (left 60 / right 60 /center) and for each guitar sub bus I used eq and API compression. On the LCR bus there is sslcomp as glue.
Solo: cla3a-eq-kramer compressor. Moreover there is a saturation, reverb, stereo delay via aux send.
On the guitar master another ssl as glue comp. A dynamic EQ acts on the guitar bus, controlling some frequencies by the bass and for others by the voice.
For synth I used MV2 for an upward comp, cla2a and eq.
Voice: I used parallel compression that returns to a bus together with the direct voice. On the bus I used a de-esser and 2 compressors an eq in the middle. Send vox bus in to 2 aux track with Magma BB Tubes plugin and blackbox saturation. Vox master is send to a reverb and stereo delay aux.
There some automation regarding volume, pan, reverb and stereo delay send and level.
Reverb: short (drums and a little bit on the bass); medium and long (a combination of both on guitar voice and synth track)
Stereo delay: Sync with bpm with 1/4 and 1/4T
The mix bus doesn't do too much processing: Puigchild comp just 1 db of maximum reduction, an eq for boosting the 10-12 K
That's all, here's my mix:

Hello,
First submission here, glad to be participating in this challenge, great track choice!
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LPbhCf ... sp=sharing
I tried to focus as much as possible on the energy in this track, and there's a lot of that to work with.
DRUMS: I shot for a fat snare sound with punch and width and present drums overall, while controlling the cymbals. I mainly used EQ and compression with some delays and reverbs for a bigger sound. If these were played with more of a solid rock kit, we could have gone for a bigger / concert-like sound, but here I preferred something a little less spacious. I kept the room mic quite high for added dirt and energy.
GUITARS: precise panning and volume balancing / automation with some compression and distortion on the guitar bus to get a coherent and full sound that fills the image entirely in the chorus sections and drive the track.
VOCALS: a lot of control and automation to get these to sit just right and drive the energy of the song. Mainly delay used for space and bridge vocal effect.
BASS: tons of distortion / amp sim and EQ
Thank you and good luck to all!
