@Mister Fox My apologies for being a little dumb on this, but I am not sure how to request the use of the wildcard, so obviously here is a heads up that I would like to use it now ;0)
As mentioned in the corresponding Addendum, if your entry was marked "tagged disqualified", yet the Song Provider offers you to advance into Round 2, by deciding to advance into Round 2 you automatically use up one of your Wild Cards (from 2 available per user).

Good luck during Mix Round 2.

Hi all!

Thanks again @JeroenZuiderwijk for the feedback, here's my R2 mix. I've tried to be subtle with the changes, and added mostly automation, which was what I had not done thoroughly in the first round. So, this would be the polished version, I've lowered the snare a couple of db's in the verses, raised the vocals in the choruses and made some room for them in general; perhaps this was the biggest change, I used a bus for the entire band and other for the vocals and made room via sidechain. In the original mix I had not made this that way, because of (my idea of) the genre and the fact that I was aiming for the vocals to blend in the mix.
There's also automation in the guitars and I've added a bit of saturation in the whole band bus, which is also automated in order to lift in certain parts, specially towards the ending. And the last "trick" is a bit of Oxford Inflator, which is also automated! A tiny little bit.
One last (not too little) detail: I've adjusted the master compressor's threshold knob; it was barely doing nothing. And I've adjusted the Faichild compressor in the guitars bus, same thing. This way I feel there's more cohesion, and I've raised the output knob on UAD's Manley Varimu which I think adds something else (at least in a homeopathic way  )

Best wishes to all of you!

My revised mix for round 2, based on the critiques. To correct the issue of "too much low mid/low end", possibly from "the drums", I made a small EQ cut on the drum bus and used a multi-band compressor on the master bus reducing 1 to 2 DB at 500 hz and below.

To correct the ‘explosive’ and ‘boomy’ sound on the first transient of the outro backing vocals, I automated the transients down a couple DB at the beginning of the lines.

Thanks for the feedback and giving a review of ALL the mixes. Appreciated. :tu:

Thanks @JeroenZuiderwijk I really appreciated your feedback. I thought the same as you after giving it a week or so and listening back. It has been a fun challenge. Long live the Mix-Challenge!

hi all,
Here's my entry for round 2

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1HMM7EP ... sp=sharing

As usual I was tempted into to doing a whole new mix, however I was quickly reminded of how difficult mixing is and instead I just responded to the feedback.

1) You weren't too happy about the bass, so I tinkered a bit with he Oxide tape saturation plugin and ended up increasing the saturation a bit.

2) The guitar solo was too dry, so I have put in a spring reverb.

3) checking the loudness, I had to make a small adjustment to get it back within parameters.

I noticed again that the frequency balance on this track seems to lack a lot of 200Hz-400Hz so I investigated ways to rectify this, but it didn't seem to sound as good. I think it can be a mistake to chase after these genre defined tonal balance curves too hard. This and most of the other things I tried to do to improve it failed, so I have left it with only these small changes.

Thanks again for being the provider of such great music, I've had a great time listening to it and learned a lot in the process as I don't often have such a challenge. Also thanks for giving the mammoth feedback for all mixes!

Cheers all

Should you have a moment, kindly give my mix a listen, even if it's not part of this month's competition.

..
The guitars were mixed using principles I learned reading SLIPPERMAN's (RIP) writings. Legend.

The mix setup was entirely in-the-box. I adapted Michael Brauer's Multi-buss compression style
...
Kind regards,
AtticusNOW!
ok I'll do it.
worked well, I like it.
guitars are on the brighter side, which is a legit old-school style. in digital era, can have more oomph.
drums sound really great, a little bit of punk is pure joy.
bass could use more distortion, perhaps an aggressive amp emulation like Ampeg.
vocals and guitar solo are good, but I would have added some gated bathroom reverb, different from the drums (different position in the depth).
no problem or issue, just for experimenting, what I would have tried if I had the time.
THANK YOU for your time and kind words.
I can't wait for the next round, it's so much fun. Let's keep rocking!
Happy Holidays from the bottom of my heart.

Hey there Jeroen,

here is my entry for round 2.

I took your advice and reduced the lowend ab bit on the bass. It cannot be too thin though, because the guitars are bright.
Hope you like it. Did some minor improvements on vocals and Stereobus, too. Nothing major, cause you liked the first mix.

Thanks and best regards,
