Hi there @JeroenZuiderwijk and thanks for selecting me for the second round. Without further ado, here's my updated mix for the second round:

https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/6u30249w ... k&e=1&dl=0

First verse
Increased the volume of the snare during the first version to give it some more presence during the lo-fi part.

Bass
I lowered the bass a bit as I thought there was simply too much overall bass in my first version. Also added a limiter to control some nasty peaks and pulled back my rather aggressive hi-mid boost a couple of db to tame the pick sounds cutting through.

Stereofield
Widened the main guitars which gives the track a better stereo boost during the choruses. Also did some slight tweaking on the overall stereo imaging. Added some subtle stereo delay to the vocals during the chorus, again to give it a slightly wider feel.

Mixbus
Gave the overall sound some slight more presence in the hi-freq areas for clarity.

Hope I didn't miss the mark with my changes and that I covered all of your remarks!

Hello everyone

Thanks @JeroenZuiderwijk for the feedback. I didn't do much for round 2. I just revised the automation to improve the boosting issue in the choruses and decreased the overall compression a bit. Hope you like it.

Again a big thank you to @JeroenZuiderwijk for all the efforts. Insane! And thanks of course for letting me do a revision. Here’s what I did:

I tamed the harsh frequencies in the vocals with EQ, backed off the effects on the vocals in the end and the guitar solo and put a high cut filter on the fuzz bass. I also tried the god particle on the mixbus. Good luck everyone for R2!

Hi Jeroen, thanks for your track notes and for providing the song. It was a lot of fun working on it.

my changes:

I made the kick drum more present by adjusting its EQ curve a bit. And adjusted the vocals automation in the outro.

Hi Jeroen. Thanks for the feedback on my mix.
It was actually pretty great to come back to the mix with fresh ears.
I lowered the vocal level slightly as requested.

Hey,

here's Round 2:

https://icedrive.net/s/b9ta8YWQ98zZS1vfFfh19ggzz3by

I tried to achieve what was asked in the feedback and then some :)
Gone is the flanger, a little more lift in the chorus, some polishing and the solo guitar is one louder!

Thanks for the song, lots of fun :phones:

MIX CHALLENGE - MC100 October 2024 - Mix Round 2 in evaluation

#258

Post by Mister Fox »

It's the 27th November 2024, 04:40 (UTC+1) - the 2nd Mix Round has officially ended.

STATISTICS
  • Unfortunately, not everyone has sent in an edit (I count 13 out of 15), we therefore have 2 disqualifications (@borisson, @E.C.S. didn't submit anything)
  • We have 1 Wild Card use to advance into the next round (@Rc²)
  • We have 1 participants that decided on not to advance through the use of a Wild Card (02 were available this month, @E.C.S. didn't use a Wild Card)
  • We have 0 submissions after the deadline
  • We have 0 submission that could not be downloaded by the time of this post and are therefore disqualified (re-checked 26-NOV-2024 4:30 UTC+1/CET)

I will reach out to @JeroenZuiderwijk and forward all entries/statistics by sometime tomorrow (Thursday, 28-NOV-2024). Please have an eye on this thread for more feedback and a possible Mix Round 3, or an announcement of the final results.

I'm now opening up the room (again) for Q&A's and giving each other feedback (which is highly encouraged)

Please check out all other games on the community. Most notably our Songwriting Competition - which is currently in the feedback and voting round.

Please also consider becoming a Song Provider. Our Song Pool is running dry! No more material means no more Mix(ing) Challenges. The genre is not important -- but it must be a finished production.

See you on the flipside.
