Hi - here's a mix from Denmark.
My take on the song files under 'hard rock', so it's not really grungy.
But I thought the guitars needed some kick-butt attitude, so I added
distortion generously to them. I found the vocals a bit difficult and had I more time,
I would do some chopping up and glueing but alas. Also the transients was
a challenge. I couldn't get a decent result with my Hornet AutoGainPro, so I turned to limiting.
Controlling the sound w/ eq was also a hard one to crack - I almost maxed out
my CPU on the task. But I nailed it eventually. Though I left out some of the dubs (as mentioned by provider,
the vocals was somewhat less quality than desired)
I found the drums fairly easy to work with, especially liked the 'room' track, so I ended up using no reverb there.
I used my whole palette of plugins, mostly Nomad and stock plugs from my DAW.
I used Pro Tools 10 on an iMac intel i3 3.06 GHz running OS Mountain Lion.
Guess thats it.

Got frozen out of my account ten minutes before the deadline and couldn't manage my way back in until now.
Here's my mix, for what it's worth.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/4ogtx49zid1sd ... r.wav?dl=0
Used both drums in differing amounts throughout the track.
Took analog approach and ran most elements through my Studio Channel, Eureka Strip and/or Joe Meek VC6Q.
Hope you like.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC053 April 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
It is the 22nd April 2019, 02:05am GMT+2/CEST - the first Mix Round has officially ended
Once more, a very warm welcome to all new participants. And once more a huge thank you to everyone that is spreading the word about the Mix Challenge. Please keep doing so, we need way more participants for the Songwriting Competition(s), and more audio content (I'm currently working on acquiring an interesting challenge for MC054/May 2019).
STATISTICS:
Please check all if your links again, make them downloadable(!, IMPORTANT: updated rules on SoundCloud links). Those that uploaded MP3s only, please take note: providing a WAV file is mandatory. Please also update your posts with documentation for others to learn from (see Rules & Guidelines).
I now open the field for everyone to give each other feedback (highly encouraged). This will be independent to the client feedback however.
Please watch this spot for the client feedback and Mix Round 2 participant announcement.
Good luck to all participants.
The Songwriting Competition 20 (SWC20) is still in full swing.
The deadline is 24th April 2019, 11:59pm GMT+2/CEST - so far there have been 4 entries (if I didn't miscount) - let's try to reach 10 this month again.
Please spread the word!

STATISTICS:
- If I didn't miscount, we have 51 submissions (minus 5 entries) this month. That is 10 submissions more than last month and 29 entries more compared to last year
- We have 1 user that redacted his entry (Clueless?)
- We have 4 submission after the deadline (okayzon, GB Real, Lewsshwa Music, logan07)
- We had 0 submissions through SoundCloud only
- I had to address the Rules and Guidelines 1 time(s)

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC053 April 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
Working on feedback now. I hope I can give some meaningful information to you all. I'm not renowned for getting my point across but will do my best, especially for the top 10. Hopefully will be done in a few hours (give or take a couple of hours). Thanks everyone. There has been a lot of hard work put into this and I appreciate the effort.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC053 April 2019 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
I suppose it's a tough song to mix from the point of view of pleasing me. I am pretty happy with the music but want it to be more professional sounding and a tighter mix. That said, the vocal is probably the most important part because unless you fix that I'll still be unhappy with the song. The usual case for me is I create an instrumental mix and then (at least in my mind) ruin it with a vocal track.
Regarding mix feedback. I have a tendency to be a little abrupt but I don't mean to be rude. With this many mixes I found it hard to give unique feedback in each case. I hope what I have said can be taken as it is meant, nothing more than my non expert opinion based only on my vision for the mix. There is no particular order to the feedback below.
I'm grateful for the interest you have all shown and the time you have taken to provide a mix. I am especially thankful for the kind things that have been said about the song. I do what I can with what little time I have and it is rare that more than a couple of people even bother to listen to a song I write.
I have listed the Top 10 first (in no particular order) followed by a post containing further feedback for others. For the Top 10, I want to give you as much help as I can to improve your mix so please as questions if you have any. PM might be best with Top 10 in the title somewhere so I can get back to you asap.
To everyone else, if you have questions I'll try to answer but I might miss posts as I have limited time and there are a lot of you. Thanks again

Drums are pretty good except for the snare. Not sure where but it needs some cutting somewhere to sit in the mix better. Hats are a little on the side of too intence. Maybe just the level. Bass is nice and unobtrusive. Could maybe be brought up a tiny bit to fatten up the low end. Vocals are a bit too intimate sounding. They sound a bit like they are in a different location to the music and I like them to be a bit more on an even standing with the rest of the mix. Solo sounds good but maybe a little too loud."
"35 MC053_Morelia_We Fly_Kirurg
Another good wall of sound approach. Guitars could use some work to get a tighter sound. They sound a but muchy to me. I'd like to tighten the mid range a little. Bass seems a bit vanilla sounding. Would be an improvement for me if there was a little added harmonic content. The vocals sound well mixed from a level point of view. I like the vocal tracks used but the chorus could use some more of the more aggressive takes. Only issue there is that as varios points I found parts of the vocal stick out so could be a need for some more eq manipulation. Guitar solo is great, fits in nicely."
"16 MC53_morelia_wefly_Jerze
Nothing major to fault and I'm struggling to put my finger on it but I'm not totally happy with the mix. Levels all seem great but it's sort of like everything is about 85% there but mixed well. I like the guitar tone but it's a bit too raw sounding. Drums sound pretty good but not getting enough power out of the snare and kick. I like the bass. Might be improved by reducing the high end and raising the level slightly. Vocals sound good but a bit bland like it needs something to make it sound less dry. Just seems like it is sitting in a different place to the rest of the mix."
"51 MC53_morelia_WeFly_Mork
Drums sound pretty good. Snare could maybe come up a bit and hats down maybe. The guitars sound pretty tough which I like. All guitars seem to work together well. Bass is a bit to toppy and could use a little more aggression. The vocal sounds quite good. Only thing I don't like is the takes you used. Could sound a lot better if you use some of the more aggressive ones. Solo could be a bit louder."
"15 MC053_morelia_wefly_paperthin
This seems to have gotten pretty close to the Audioslave sound I was going for, particularly the guitars. Maybe just a little too much distortion. I really like the little effects parts you have added throughout. I was going for a simple but tough sounding mix and wouldn't have thought to do that. They sound great though. The vocal is the area where I feel this mix is let down a little bit. I would like it to sound a little more on the aggressive (not distorted) side. It's a pretty good vocal mix just feels a little weak (my fault I know) but I think there may (are) be better vocal takes to focus on."
"17 MC53 - Morelia - We Fly - Kevin Gobin
Good instrumental mix. Sounds well balanced. Kick and snare sound powerful. Bass is good, not too much high end and sits nice with the guitars. Maybe a little bit too mid range. Vocal mix sounds pretty good. Nothing bad to say about it. I think there may be better track to choose as the dominant ones to get a more aggressive sound but it’s a good vocal mix. Guitar solo is a nice tone well suited to the mix."
"27 MC053_Morelia_We Fly_Ggermaine
Great intro. Sounds tight and the delay works really well. Instrument mix comes in heavy and with impact. Snare seems to be lacking a little bit of punch. If that was working better I think it would create a better wall of sound. Vocal comes in sounding well mixed and like a part of the mix. Just feels like the more aggressive takes are neglected which takes away something from my vision of the song. Bass sits nicely so nothing there I see needing changes. Guitar solo sound thick and sits nicely above the mix like I think it should. I think the vocal is the main thing that I find letting the mix down. Maybe skins could come up a little (kick and snare)."
"14 MC053_Morelia_WeFly_CarlosB
It sounds great. If anything maybe the guitars are a little bit thin sometimes. Honestly I can't really say it's bad but could be heavier sounding. The bass sits nicely and I like the little touch of wah going on. Vocals may be a little too loud for my taste in the verse. I am totally impressed with the vocal track though. I don't know what you did but it seems you've chosen to use the bits I like the most. I don't understand why I couldn't do that but great job. I almost enjoyed listening to my vocal. I'm hesitant to suggest changing anything with the vocal (except maybe the verse level) unless you are absolutely sure it is an improvement. Honestly, you seem to have chosen the best parts for everything. However it does sound a little sibilant. That could be something to look at as in a few spots where the vocal really jumps out. Everything sounds big which is what I wanted. I always put a guitar solo in the middle so I would prefer that unless you have some specific reason not to. It sounds great but to me loses a little impact panned that far to the side."
"25 MC053_morelia_we fly_stu b
First impression is good. Everything comes in nice and powerful. Drums sound really good. Nice powerful kick and snare, cymbals are a good level. Bass sounds very good and and apart from maybe a little too dominant in a lower area of the spectrum sits nicely in the mix. Vocals sit nicely in the mix and seem to have removed any of the frequencies that really annoy me. If anything maybe they lack some of the more aggressive tracks that I was favoring more so I could get an angrier feel to the delivery. Particularly in the chorus would be nice to increase the vocal intensity, not level, a little. I feel the lower register vocals in the verse are a little too much. Maybe a little lacking in the overall polish. Guitars and drums competing a little with the vocal. I do like that in some ways and I don't want to puch you to change too much. Just seems a little busy in some areas of the spectrum. Don't want you to upset the levels though."
"33 MC053_Morelia_WeFly_BentLangerak
I love the idea behind your arrangement changes. Only issue I have with it is that some of the changes don't transition as well as I'd like. It may be partly that I am used to my version but the shortened intro into first verse sounds like it needs work. It sounds a bit like the vocals just come in when they shouldn't. I'm totally happy with the change but there may be a better way to transition to the verse. The use of effects as FX is cool and I like the stops (i.e. before the chorus). Vocal track choice is fine but I'd prefer some more dominance of the more aggro ones for the chorus. The vocal is the part I'd like to see most worked on to get a more aggressive sound. Great solo and lead in to the solo. There are some crackles as the solo fades out. I like how you have changed things to give more impact when the chorus and heavier parts come in. Very good."
