Wow, this was a lot of fun and a whole lot of work! Including busses, fx returns etc. it took me 120 tracks (first 100+ session, yay ) and 205 plugins to get it to where it is now. You'll get a decent SSL smackdown in the first part and a piece of heaven in the final part, just as requested. I wanted it to be like the angel of Metal is singing to us To be honest, the breakdown was what got me excited the most when I first heard the song. I referenced the rough a lot and tried to stay true to your vison, just inflate it. Usually it would be a bit darker but I tried to match the brigthness of the rough.

Keep in mind, the so called "reference" is just a demo mix, how this "could sound" in the end (without mastering / loudness raise). There is still an ongoing discussion on "Summing Bus Treatment" as you know.OctopusOnFire wrote: ↑Mon Aug 21, 2017 18:06 CEST...Studio Saturn wrote: ↑Fri Aug 18, 2017 16:00 CESTWho ever exported this track including the reference I really appreciated the professionalism. I really enjoyed the gain staging. Big thanks. I have seen a lot other contests giving us a mastered track as a reference and telling us not to use master bus effect which contradicts a lot.
And yeah, I'm with you on what you say. Actually there's been a lot of back and forth in this forum regarding the "master bus". I guess the line is kind of blurry and hard to set in a way everyone agrees 100%
5 hours left for MC35!

WOW! 20 participants and still some hours until deadline.
You want to kill me
No seriously, thank you so much for getting invested in the song! I hope you enjoyed the pain and the pleasure of mixing it. It's a song with a little too much of everything all over the place. I've learnt a lot being in the the position of preparing the tracks for other people to work with them. To sum it up, less is more.
So, here's what I have so far:
donkey tugger
Tbase2000
Coiled_Ear
MedII
Photonic
Dwic
Wizzo
Ungifted
marthiss
alextruta
kevin gobin
EchoOread
Vasdim
Nige
DaveMcIsaac
Zsolt
MOA22
Mork
Marc Clement
I asked SRMix if it was possible to upload the mix to a different site, I keep getting warnings from Zippyshare

Hi!
So... here's my mix, number 23 it seems:
wav file 44.1khz and 32b floating
https://www.dropbox.com/s/04q1uk0canrfy ... 3.wav?dl=0
Mp3 320kps
https://www.dropbox.com/s/i9kud4wr5bviq ... -.mp3?dl=0
I'm aiming mostly for some feedback here. Haven't been mixing for some years, and trying to come back to it.
So, new room, old monitors, new calibration, new hardware and new plugins!
Mixed in Sonar Platinum, using some hardware (mainly for drum compression and for vocals) and plugins. Played a bit with tape and console emulations. Used the clean female vocals and the reamped guitars. Tried to create some movement with the keyboards while keeping the guitars and drums agressive... and the vocals smooth.
Hope it's at least ok! hehe... and hope to hear some feedback about it.
Thanks to the Mix Challenge's Powers that Be for this!
Bye

Here is mine. Even though I'm not familiar with the genre, I have tried to mix it my way. Comment highly appreciated.

Re: MIX CHALLENGE - MC35 August 2017 - Mix Round 1 in evaluation
It is the 22nd August 2017, 1:40am GMT+1/CEST - the first Mix Round has officially ended
We have 24 participants! The first time the participation is that high since February 2015 (MC08). I'm really happy about this and I'd love to see similar happening in future challenges. Thank you so much for spreading the word and joining the Mix Challenge.
There have been no submissions after the deadline.
Please check all if your links again, make them downloadable. Those that uploaded MP3s only, please take note: providing a FLAC (on low bandwidth)/WAV (on DSL and higher) file is mandatory now. Also please update your posts with minimal documentation for others to learn from (see Rules & Guidelines).
Since we have 20+ participants, I will consult with "the client" if he really wants to give feedback to everyone or just the top 15-20 people before announcing the top 6-7 lucky engineers that will go into round 2. It's been a while since we exceeded that amount, and this particular rule (see EGeneral Evaluation Guidelines, point 2) has been rarely triggered.
Good luck to all participants
