Greetings! This is my first Mix Challenge. Great song, well-written source. For some temporary reasons, I put it on multimedia headphones. From this, my efforts were even more diligent). Mostly used plugins Acustica Audio, FabFilter, SoundToys, Softube. I tried to leave the vocals as realistic as possible. Guitars used by DI. If something interests you, ask questions, I will answer with pleasure. All health, good luck and good mood!

I'm stuck in quarantine with a very big console and not much else.

This mix was done in Protools stemmed out to an SSL Duality. After listening to the rough mix closely, I made a promise to myself not to listen to the rough mix again. Sometimes they can be helpful guides... sometimes they're not. No disrespect...but what can happen in these "competitions" is the mixer (me, you, our future kin) fall into a trap of sonically "beating" the rough mix and patting ourselves on the back. Common phenomenon? I sure hope so, I'd hate to feel anymore alone than I am already. However, this "beating the rough" mindset can be a bit toxic, as it can take your focus off what really matters... making the song work !

Hello everyone,

Thank you Cezar for the song.
Here are the things worth mentioning in my mix:

Generally there is some eq, compression and/or limiter,
volume automation and Slate Virtual console as well
in every track or group.

I decided to re-amp the guitars AmpDrive, AmpRiff
and AmpLicksC (solo).
AcgRode guitar has some Decapitator saturation and
a little bit chorus effect in pre-chorus parts.
All guitars having a little fx send to UAD EMT250 room.

Vocals grouped to leads and backs and compressed by Tube-Tech CL1B.
All the vocals having little amount of slap echo and additionally the
lead vocals sending a bit to UVI Plate fx.
All vocals group together are having El-Rey compression.

Drums group having Acustica Audio Sand compression, also FabFilter
dynamic eq as well. Used the transient designer for the kick. OH and room
having standard compression (Glue VST) but also FabFilter dynamic compressor
(for better balancing hi hats and cymbals).

Bass also got some saturation by Decapitator.

Main bus has Acustica Audio Sand compressor, Acustica Audio Celestial MB,
RoundTone Tape.

Hello,

Thanks for this mixing opportunity.

Here is the link to our mix:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-Q2I3y ... sp=sharing

We have done a hybrid mix, we first eq and compress in the box to bring out the tone of each instrument, then send those summed buses to the mixer board to mix everything from there on.

We use a Allen and Heath GL 3300 mixer.

Drums:
  • SSL Channel Strip Plugin on each of the drum parts to EQ and bring out the tonality of each part of the drum setup
  • Parallel Drums using a sound toys decapitator, along with SSL EQ to bring the girt of the drums
  • Drum Bus (summing with parallel drums), used a TRacks Bus compressor to bring out the sheen of the drums and then a SSL EQ to blend everything together
Sending this to the analog mixer board and turning the EQ knobs to blend it with the overall mix.

Acoustic Guitars:
  • Panned the individual mono parts so that they occupy the spectrum
  • Acoustic guitar bus, added a SSL compressor, SSL EQ to bring out the tone and then a bit of Eventide SP2016 reverb
Sending this to the analog mixer board and turning the EQ knobs to blend it with the overall mix.

Electric Guitars:
  • Panned the individual mono parts so that they occupy the spectrum
  • Nothing on individual electric guitar stems
  • Electric guitar bus, added a SSL EQ to clean out the distortion
  • Lot of volume automation, during the mixing so as to bring the presence electric guitar during different sections of the song
Sending this to the analog mixer board and turning the EQ knobs to blend it with the overall mix.

Bass:
  • SSL EQ to remove the muddy-ness in the bass
  • JJP Plugin, used the compression and sub bass of the JJP plugin to give it some meat
Sending this to the analog mixer board and turning the EQ knobs to blend it with the overall mix.

Synth:
  • Nothing on the individual stems
Sending this to the analog mixer board and turning the EQ knobs to blend it with the overall mix.

Lead Vocals:
  • API 550A to bring the presence, Fabfilter de-esser, MAG EQ to bring the Air and Steven Slate Tape machine to add some sizzle
  • Reverb and Delays to suit the need
  • Volume automation to bring out the voice in different parts of the song
Sending this to the analog mixer board and turning the EQ knobs to blend it with the overall mix.

Background Vocals:
  • Nothing to the stems
  • Reverb to space out the vocals

The mix is done hybrid, the final busses are sent to the Analog Mixer for EQ and balancing. Then a stereo out from the mixer is printed back into the DAW. Please note that the mix is at long term -16 LUFS. Drive the volume knob while listening ....

This is all we have done, hope this helps.

I request other participants to listen to our song and please give us some feedback.

May the best mix win.

Thanks,
Studio 7.

Greetings everyone!

This is my first post here.

Really like the song, huge thanks for the opportunity to work with it!

My version: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hgfvNd ... EPjYq/view

I wanted to give a this song a bit different touch and give it lots of space, so it souned more dreamy and nostalgic which I think fits the theme of the song.
Vocals. First of all, I used compression to make them sound more consistent and some EQ to reduce the lows a bit. I added plenty of reverb and delay to the them and I also used automation on the FX to make them "explode" in the chorus.
I wanted drums to sound bigger, so I put some room reverb and lots of compression post reverb on them in addition to some EQing to make them brighter.
I wanted to highlight the synth, because I liked how it created this kind of "memory lane" feel in the end of the song. So I put some reverb on it and bumped up the volume.
Some additional EQing to make everything fit better.
