Hello,

after 2 challenges of songs I did not like, a big song for this challenge.

First of all, the Keys got some chorus and flange fx, cause of the 80ies vibe. The main vox got some spare tuning, only longer notes to hold them in tune. The solo guitar got only some EQ and balanced with FX track. The rhy guitar has got to tamed a bit. I took a lot of lows off and a compressor.
The drum group has its own reverb tracks, a plate and a room reverb. All instruments got to the same hall and room reverbs. Vox have a plate and a two delays (1/8, 1/4). The snare was treated with a sll native console, which has a great gate/expander section. The expander helped me, to get some snare tail out of the recording. No samples oder buzz tools were used.

All in all, normale processing with EQ and compressor were needed. Most done via ssl native console and NI Supercharger. The master bus got some Red 3 for cuting 2db for gluing and a Barricade 4 as Brickwall only, but it would not have been necessary.

Here is my contribution:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Qksc_N ... sp=sharing

It ended up sounding nothing like the original track. My goal was so get an 80-90's sound with a modern touch.

I kept it quite simple. Comp and EQ on the drums, and a drumbus with bus compression. A bif but short reverb on most of the drums. The bass got some heavy compression, some distortion en EQ. Main vocal some reverb and delay, but the other some extra FXs like vocal doubler, flanger. As seen in the tracks-picture, i decided to use only parts of the vox 3 and 4.

Hello everyone,

I enjoyed mixing this, thanks to John Kutkowski for the opportunity!

Mixed in Reaper
Drums:
- Parallel compression on the drum buss
- Transient Designer on the Kick and Snare
- Saturation on Kick and Snare
Bass - EQ and compression from Scheps Omni Channel, and Trackspacer to duck the kick
Vocals - Nothing unusual, EQ, compression, a mix of plate and hall verbs, and some stereo slapback
Guitar - I split the stereo rhythm track into two mono tracks to process them differently. Different EQ curves on each, and SketchCassette on one side
Pad/Strings - Converted to mono and hard-panned for width
Piano - EQ and Compression
Mix Bus - light compression and bx_refinement to reduce the harshness a little bit (about 1 dB)

Hi everyone,

Here is my mix: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vbk6tmphe7qql ... k.wav?dl=0

This time I decide to use only basic stuff like comp, eq, rev, sat + use some other eq's than Reaper ReaEq, which I use all the time.

On Kick Eq for some high end and a bit of low end + comp (Molot) + Saturation Knob.
I made two copies of snare, one for gated reverb other for low mid punch, which I compress a lot. Some eq and compression for glue on bus.
Rest of drum is only eq and comp + some reverb on hh, room and tamb.
For drum bus I used tape emulation to compress them a little.

Piano gets some reverb and delay and after that comp for more suistain.
Eq for darker strings and without so much mids.

Guitars have a lot more processing, too long to describing, so I will throw biggest tip helped me when I was working on them. Instead of using eq to get rid of muddy freq, I compressed mids in multibandcomp. That helped me to not take to much power from them.

For Vocals I used eq, small comp and plate reverb. ADT on VOX3 and same processing with different setup of reverb.

@EchoOread, we need you to set file access for your mix to _public_.
(User interface to GDrive has changed)
What happened on your end? I clicked on the my link and it was fine. Btw, how do you set the file to "public"? I copied the sharable link. Thanks.
