You are correct about the overall 2 buss eq fail. Thanks for pointing that out. After listening to a few mixes I picked it up also. Overall listening environment failure I think. Good luck to the 2nd round.

Hello OctopusOnFire,

Thank you for the detailed feedback. I am glad that some of my ideas worked well. And I understand your criticism.
Good luck for all who made it to the 2nd round!

Thanks for very interesting song. Congratulations for round 2 participants.
And, along with Wizzo, i would be very thankful for any kind of feedback. No matter how short or how kind.
This is very cool chance to make such mix for almost "real client". And i think, any kind of feedback from client is crucial.
Good succed for round 2 gentlemans !

Hi OctopusOnFire,
Thank you for your comments. Apologies as I haven`t figured out how to work the quote thing but I think I've addressed what seemed to be the 4 main points.

Guitars--- I thought it might be " courageous " to change the amp sims so I added a parallel distortion track with Kazrog Thermonik . Thanks for the youtube reference.

Snare thing--- There`s not much verb to speak of but yeah, I know what you mean........ it was the room mic. I increased the wet on the parallel comp on the room mic. Tightened it up so now it should be consistent. Also did some EQ on the low end of the room mic which helped with the kick issue. It also tightened the Toms, less bloom.

Lead Vocal ----- added slap.....Echoboy

End section--- Turned down Piano. Took out some low mid from side image of Underwater Piano.

Percussion---- Just took a db off it.

I`m away to another studio tomorrow morning to be a musician again for a couple of weeks , else I would have sat on this for a couple of days. My bad planning!!

Thanks for putting up your song for mixing and for taking the time to listen to everyones` mixes .

Marc Clement

Not a fan of the roomy sound of the intro. Try favouring the music a little more over the voice clip.

I love the tone and the dynamics of the mix, but it feels like the kick and the bass are somehow dragging down the momentum. I wouldn't say they're fighting, maybe the bass lacks a bit of definition. And I like how the kick pops out, but it feels a bit overwhelming after a while.

Great work with the synths, nice automation, but they feel a little dry in my opinion, especially the bouncy ones coming from the sides.

Last section: I think the transition has too much stuff on it. It feels bigger than the chorus that precedes it. Make it more intimate so it explodes when the drums come in. Fade out the guitars after the drums stop so they disappear before the voice and synths. Other than that, I like how you introduced the percussion, it's not very obtrusive. It sounds big and majestic, I like it very much.
Tweaked synths, less boomy bass and a way smaller break. I just liked the break so much...
For the intro I had to use your fx track, sorry. I tried some things, they didn't work and I have to catch a plane to spain for vacation in an hour.
There are some other things tweaked like the pokey kick, also the snare felt a little dry and so on. I hope you like it!

Hello Octopus,

nice to comment on 90% of the submissions.
I know it´s some work to listen and comment.
If you say you do just 10 out of regardless how many submissions there are
that feels good to everyone. But 20 out of 23 leaves a strange left up in the air feeling.
you did:
- Chosen for the 2nd round
- Honorable mentions
- More Feedback!!
Maybe a 4th category would help the last 2 or3 to evaluate themselves.
e.g. - "Not to mention, nice try". Without any comments, takes some seconds.
But helps to to assess oneself.

don´t missunderstand me, its not against you, you had much work, just my thoughts. :tu:

greetings
Dirk

For the "More feedback" section I just picked up random submissions until my brain said enough. And then reviewed one more to round it up at 20. Point being, there was no quality criteria, it was just random.

Whoever didn't get feedback, of if you want feedback on a specific issue please send me a PM too keep things tidy, and I'll reply with the feedback. Is that okay? :phones:
