Thank you to all the contestants for joining the mixing challenge. I was impressed by many of the contestants and it was hard to narrow down to just three contestants. The following contestants had impressed me the most and I wanted to say some comments on their songs.

@Madmav
Congratulations to MadMav! I personally didn’t think I would like this mix as much as I did. But after some revisions to the pitch correction, I really heard the distortion on the bass guitar do some awesome work.
@JanLefr
JanLefr’s mix was a bit interesting, and gotta say the introduction of the song really caught me off-guard, and gave it more of a psychedelic vibe. After some revisions to the pitch correction, I could definitely hear this on an indie pop record.
@EastPark
EastPark’s mix was a bit more minimalistic. But for some reason it just seemed like the volume of each instrument was perfect. Any effects seemed quite minimal and there were just a lot of small effects that I appreciated throughout.
Should you still consider working on your mix, maybe the following
feedback might help. You all did an amazing job. Please keep it up.

@AlanValdez
0:10s there is like a chorus effect on the vocal, which I don’t quite particularly like, consider messing around with the chorus effect or decreasing or removing the effect.
0:30s The marimba sounds so dry and kalimba like, consider adding some sort of reverb, or messing with the other mics
0:49s the piano sounds like it’s louder than the mix. Decrease drastically at least by 2.5db
@Cadence Soundlabs
0:15s Guiro is a bit too loud. Decrease drastically at least 2.5db
0:30s I’m not sure, but the reverb sounds kind of messy. I would consider adjusting the reverb for some of the instruments or using an eq on the reverbs.
1:51s I would cut some of the frequencies on the guitar, make some room for the other instruments. Probably a low pass filter.
@Davias
0:22 Guiro is a bit too loud. Decrease drastically at least 2.5db
0:30s The marimba delay is okay. I would consider changing the time of the delay to something just a bit longer. Or maybe make it a bit drier
1:47s The hi hats sound a bit too loud. I would consider decreasing them or cutting some of the frequencies with an eq.
@EastparkSound
0:20s Maybe the guitar is a bit too loud. Decrease by at least 1.5db
2:00s Marimba is too loud. Decrease by at least 1.5db
2:24s the piano sounds like it has soft clipping, I would suggest using compression instead or a different effect.
@Janlefr
0:19s I would just revert some of the pitch correction to the original vocal.
1:27s the bass might just be a bit slightly loud, maybe decrease by at least like 1db
2:14s the guitar is slightly loud, decrease by at least like 1db
@M.P.3
0:16s Vocal seems to have some sort of saturation. I would decrease that effect or make it a bit drier.
0:33s I would rather have that the marimba does not change panning. I suggest leaving it at one spot or using a subtle rotator with a smaller range
@MadMav
1:07s Maybe consider panning the trumpets to the left, give a more wider feeling
2:14s same with the guitar consider panning the guitar to the left
@Michael_K
0:25s Bass drum too loud. Decrease drastically at least by 2.5 db
0:50s piano is too loud. Decrease at least by 2.0 db
1:14s Hihats too loud. Decrease drastically at least 2.0 db.
@Spyart
0:14s Decrease the guiro at least 2db
0:31s The bass guitar seems like it’s a bit loud and competing with the bass drum. I would adjust some eq settings or decreasing the volume of one of the other to make some space.
1:35s the hi hats are a bit too loud. Decrease at least 2.5db.
