The forum has an edit function in the form of a button with a pen in it.
I assume you didn't want to quote your own post as a follow-up.

Hello guys and gals, my submission has gotten edited. I thought I'd mention it, since my post is on the first page, and I guess no one ever looks at that page now. Still just WIP, though.

Ok Guys, Here is my Submission. Was tweaking for a bit but decided, I better just post it to get the reactions. Putting on my tough skin suit for just in case. Dont hold back, it only helps me get better.
LOL,,,, Thanks for the opportunity to be a part.
I liked the part until 1:06 very much. There is a tension in the air. It's like a movie, during a sequence where there's almost a lull but the viewer knows that something dramatic is about to happen. Then, at 1:06, there is a shift to something that has a slightly different tone - the tension sort of stops (at least for me). I think it would be better to go straight to the dramatic.

Cause when I looked at the graph of your file in my DAW (because I imported it), I thought there would be something dramatic, or at least loud at 1:46. Because the amplitude increases a lot here. But I think the part from 1:46 until the end is difficult to judge. Something needs to be done, though - especially that some notes/drumbeats, at least until 2:06, are very out of “time” (i.e. way too far from their exact place in terms of quarter notes, eighth notes, etc.).

It's also very difficult to understand the amplitude of all the peaks (they are on the plus side of 0 dB). A drum comes in at 1:46, but what I hear in my headphones doesn't really correspond to what I see on the screen. So I don't understand at all.

The funny and very brief interlude at 24.625 seconds (of a synth bass?) is very eccentric, but of course you can do that.

At the beginning of the song (up to 1:06 at least or maybe even 1:46), the steel-string guitar is very precise. It sounds real, too, but in its “temporal” precision it's so precise that I don't know if it's a plugin that sounds unusually real, or if it's a guitarist playing very precisely. I don't dare to guess which. (And I'm having a bit of trouble telling from the specs what are plugins and what are not.)

Well - now I've got food in the oven that I need to take care of, but I hope you can find something of value in my feedback.

Thank you sir for your candid analogy from what you hear in the submission. Im taking it all in and Im learning, I appreciate you. I only used a real guitar for percussions for some chord strums and a Roland Fantom Rack module for Bass and the steel string guitar sound. The rest are Kontakt instruments I played. I just went with what I felt. The tension and build to be honest, I didnt think of it, it was just a shift to get the ideas in my head out. Most of the time in this situation I would go back and re organize for a singer or for a picture. But the scenes are there. The wave graph to sound possibly could be the low end eq I tried to add to give the palm Kick sound on the body of the guitar more punch. Im learning though, again thanks.

This month, I wrote an instrumental in a metal style, which I think fits in well with this challenge, several guitars have been recorded.
I'm posting now so I can continue to improve the track if some remarks come about mix or others
Some brief comments: the mix is well executed. I don't think I would want to raise or lower the volume of any of the instruments, or use EQ differently than you did. However, I think it's a little hard on the ears when the opening storm (thunder) is mixed with the electric bass. You could very well fade out the storm earlier.

What I miss here is melody. I know it's emphasized that there doesn't have to be vocals. And there is some kind of rudimentary melody in the guitars, but I can't help but want more of that, but that's just my personal opinion. In what kind of situation would I choose to listen to this song, I asked myself, if it were commercially released? I came to the conclusion that it might work as relaxation music, despite its raw expression, i.e. metal. (And you write something about “calm” in your post.) By the way, I noticed that the first chord of what might be described as a chorus changes when this part is repeated a second time. The second time it sounds like a pure major chord. The first time I can't quite analyze what it is, but it sounds like a chord with at least four notes. Variation is always good.

:arrow_right: A friendly reminder:
Including today, 03 days left to submit your production.

So far, we have 03 entries.

We need 09 participants for a regular sized podium, and more than 15 for an extended one.

Please get your production ready and submitted (through the forum) prior to the end of this weekend.

To those sitting on the fence - please don't feel scared off and think "the bar is set too high, I will never make it" - set yourself a shorter private deadline. Just make music, submit your entry, join the conversation. See where this goes.

By joining, you're already a winner. The rest is bonus. :tu:

:arrow_right: To make it easier for me to create the collection post, please update your initial post with the appropriate links (final version), or explicitly mark your entry as "final entry". Working through multiple posts is not easy. Please also don't forget to make your files accessible to download. Thank you.

EDIT: 23-NOV-2024 - all recent 03 entries are available again

@Mister Fox

In the mix challenge, you mentioned that my user name wasn't correct in the file name.

My user name (to state the obvious...) is Ike H-Mope

How should I handle the space and dash when I submit my song this month?

BTW, I do alot of automation scripting, so I completely get the need for consistency.

Thanks

Two options come to mind: IkeH-mope or Ike_H-mope. I'd go with the latter.

So e.g.

Code: Select all

SWC087__Ike_H-mope__Totally_Awesome_Guitar_Song.wav
As long as there is no white-space in the filename.

Dear challenge companions and Mister Fox.

This month I present something that is in the same line as the last challenges: calm, ambient music, that doesn't bother but doesn't go anywhere either. I've spent a lot of time on it (I've made up to 16 versions), but I haven't been able to get much out of it.
Of course, it has served me to experiment with a new instrument (IK Multimedia SampleTank 4) that I bought at a bargain price. I've taken most of the guitars and percussion from there.

Well, I hope you like it or at least give me ideas for improvement or highlight what you would have done differently.

Thanks guys.
Thank you colleagues.
