Hello everyone, sorry i miss the deadline, I was justt working on the mix this morning and realize it was too late as I was uploading it... my bad

Here is my 2nd version of the mix just in case we can call for time difference :whiteflag: (if not possible I totally understand it was fun anyway)

Thanks everyone for this challenge ! And especially to @JeroenZuiderwijk for the incredible listening and feedback work that's amazing thank you so much

Changes in the mix :

EQ on bass to make it less boomy, also a slight volume decrease
Volume and EQ boost on kick
EQ on guitar to tame agressiveness
Automation on the vocal FX

Yeah the feedback is so helpful. When people try to learn mixing, what generally happens is that they will begin by making a number of big mistakes, because there are so many possibilities for ways to do it badly and relatively few possibilities to do it well. Things like

1) there's always way too much bass end
2) too much saturation
3) too much reverb, or reverb not well EQ'd and masking vocals
4) not enough punch to the drums etc.

If on each Mix Challenge, you can become aware of one big mistake you were making due to some accurate feedback, then you can make some rapid improvements.

Well said @scottfitz

It's also very revealing to receive feedback from somebody with an impartial view who can listen more objectively. Sometimes I find the things I laboured over get screwed up due to excessive tweaking or have questionable value in the bigger picture.
Another important aspect is that if we can remove the ego when accepting critiques, we remove the barriers to improvement.

So here I am….with 13 mixes that all sound very very good.

Every mix is unique in its own way. And I like every mix in its own way. You all did an amazing job and picking a top 3 wasn’t easy I must confess. It was a pleasure to hear my song with more power then I though could be possible on my speakers. That alone made being a songprovider worth the effort Also giving feedback to all the mixes is something that I have learned a huge deal from. I can recommend it to every mixer in this community. It will make you a better mixer I think.

I didn’t pick the top 3 based on technical details or clever mix decisions. I picked the mixes that I could personaly feel the most. So if you are not in the top 3 it does not mean your mix is less good than other mixes. Someone else might have picked your mix to be in the top 3. It is all subjective in the end.

Anyway, you have all been waiting for way too long, so here is the top 3. The winners are:

First place: RC2
Second place: Scotfitz
Third place: Edling

Congratulations!!!!

First and foremost, congratulations to the winners!
We are ending the game here, there will be no Mix Round 3.

:arrow_right: The winners podium consists of:
  1. @Rc² .....(entries: Mix Round 1, Mix Round 2)
  2. @scottfitz .....(entries: Mix Round 1, Mix Round 2)
  3. @Edling .....(entries: Mix Round 1, Mix Round 2)

:arrow_right: For learning purposes:
Here are the Statistic Sheets for Mix Round 2
Mix Round 2 - Overview of Submissions (PDF - updated: 02-DEC-2024 08:05 UTC+/CET, full sheet)

We perform with the usual - in order of the winners podium (first to last spot), please select one license out of the pool and mention it in this thread, then (important) get in touch with me via PM with your full name, email address and your plugin selection. If one company has been selected, it is not available for the rest of the podium anymore.

I'll update the "winners podium" thread shortly.

Thanks again for your participation. You can leave the thread alive if you want to exchange tips/tricks, edits, etc.
And thank you @JeroenZuiderwijk for the final words of feedback and encouragement.

Please check out Songwriting Competition 088 -- this month's theme is "Space" and the genre is "free to select" (01 entry so far, no feedback yet). We are also still collecting samples for the Special Sound Design Challenge in January, called "Community Scramble".

See you on the flipside.

Thank you so much @JeroenZuiderwijk for choosing my track as first place! I'm a little stunned and very proud at the moment! :D

I do also want to thank you for giving everyone who competed feedback, you've received a lot of kind words about it already and for very good reason, it really makes a difference us competing!

Please can I take the license of IK Multimedia T-RackS Tape Machine.

Thanks again to JeroenZuiderwijk for providing this awesome music. I have to say I loved every minute and also learned a critical lesson.

Thanks also to Mister Fox who is a one of a kind Hero for amateur/learning mixers.

Finally thanks to the community in general who make this place the joy that it is.

I would like to choose this one if it is available
